I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this. We donated these cupcakes for YOU GUYS. I'm torn. Honestly I am. On one side I'm sure thes cupcakes will make some childs day. But on the other hand we made this for YOU. It feels sort of like this was planned from the get go, honestly. <_<

Thanks Bioware for making me feel like an @ss.

No way, that was really cool of them to donate the cupcakes to a youth shelter.  Those kids will probably really appreciate it.

I don't think so. This looks like (to me at least) that BW just deflected and ignored the whole thing.

"It's not positive feedback!"
"Then it's not our businnes. Move along."

Wouldn't that be just the icing on the..cupcake?

I am quoting myself from an hour ago on this very topic.

OMG I was just kidding and I turned out to be right!?!??!

This is the first thing I thought of when I read Chris' post.

Clearly, we should now give them something they can't eat next time... Like a statue...

Unsure on how I feel about BioWares reaction, but eh, I guess the message got delivered.

Awesome job on idea and actually doing it, really. Well done.

Yeah Chris is right after all. It would have been much better without subtle troll attempts. How can you actually enjoy eating a troll cake ? Thanks, but no thanks. *Sigh*, sad that it didn't go as happily as some imagined.

Hey guys, I bet this is all a really subtle metaphor for the fact that they get our "fourth option" request and they're just hinting at the fact that we're gonna get one. Right!?

Right? ...right?

I don't think any other dev studio has the kind of passionate fanbase Bioware does. Hopefully they won't squander it come April with more shenanigans. Good for the kids though, so that's nice.

Did anyone honestly think that they would accept the cupcakes? Personally, I'm fine donating money if it's ultimately for good use, like in this case. But the spokesmen/managers would never accept the donation, 'cause that would mean that they acknowledge our concerns about the ending. This way Bioware can pose as a generous donator to charity, the same way many people use to think that the charity drive was used by the fans - to gain the holier-than-thou image.

Exactly on the mark. I'm sure David Silverman was giggling in his comfy chair thinking how clever he was. And I think this shows how terrible BioWare's consultants in all matters PR are at their job.

Basically they don't want any criticism that isn't loaded with positive feedback. If your not glowing about the game and only quietly expressing some dislike about only specific parts of it while still expressing unwavering support for future and current Bioware products, than your criticism is not constructive.

Constructive criticism is one of the most over rated concepts is western culture. Real change is sparked overwhelmingly by embarrassing criticism. Real change comes from consumers refusing to buy products from the company who doesn't meet expectations. Not by supporting them out of blind loyalty. American cars lagged behind foreign cars for so long partially because of nonsense "Buy American" campaigns. Ford can make crap while your buying their crap. When you stop, they will improve their product.

There is only one way forward here for those who think ME3 was a massive let down. Do not give more business to Bioware, and continue to criticize them publicly and waveringly.

I like that Bioware donated the cupcakes, that was a nice touch. Though I still wanted someone to go up to Casey and say in Kasumi's voice "Cake for you!"

I've had a lot of fun with this 'Cupcake Campaign' and I really like the 'youth shelter solution'. Win-win for everyone, thats an ending I was looking for.

402 cupcakes at your fingertips... fading away... Who said bittersweet ? ;)

Yes. Everybody knows about it. Point made.

I only wish BioWare took more of an opportunity to call attention to children living in poverty, rather than wasting the majority of their response on "thanks, but no thanks" snark. But they did hand over the goods, so I can't complain.

Hey Bioware, you know what I find funny?

You're being offered three colours to choose from, and using your own critical thinking you've made your own decision and said "We choose option #4".

Giving Shepard that same choice would go a long way to showing you understand where this went wrong.

They donated to children though... could be an implied message that they're still supporting the original ending with the catalyst. :P

Hi Everyone

Today, we received the 400 cupcakes you collectively sent us through your donations to express your feelings about the endings of Mass Effect 3. We want you to know; we are indeed listening to all fan response and acknowledge your feedback. We appreciate creative and thoughtful attempts like this one.

The gesture certainly gained our attention both with its creativity and deliciousness. However, while we do appreciate that fans were creative in how they expressed their views, after a lot of discussion, we decided ultimately the reason that they were sent was not done in the context of celebrating the work or accomplishment of the Mass Effect 3 team. This is a subtle, but important aspect in determining how to pass the feedback to the team.

BioWare regularly works with many deserving charities,  as such it was decided that rather than passing  out the cupcakes to staff or wasting good food, to donate them on behalf of our fans to a local Edmonton youth shelter. We know that for the kids that have to use this facility, something as simple as a cupcake is a rare treat and would definitely brighten up their day.  Thank you to the fine folks at the local youth shelter for accepting the donation and to the fans who donated the cupcakes.

Please keep providing your feedback on Mass Effect 3, we’re still listening.

Hey Chris, While I'm glad for the kids, and it's hard to complain about giving them cupcakes, passing them off completely feels a bit...sketchy. There was an intent in the color and flavor of the cupcakes, and that message will be lost.

Could you elaborate on this part here?

However, while we do appreciate that fans were creative in how they
expressed their views, after a lot of discussion, we decided ultimately
the reason that they were sent was not done in the context of
celebrating the work or accomplishment of the Mass Effect 3 team. This
is a subtle, but important aspect in determining how to pass the
feedback to the team.

I feel that, in and of itself, this was a celebration of the apprection of the work and the disappointment of a single crucial point which we feel, if changed, would greatly enhance the work.

Could you explain why, since this wasn't a simple "thanks for ME3" thing, it was felt that the "protest" aspect of it meant that the cupcakes were not suitable for distribution at Bioware?

thanks!

Yep. I have all of the messages (not all were cut out by Fuss, they are the white print-out at back). And those are being kept by the team. :)

It would have been funny if you happened to take the picture with a paper shredder in the background.  Man I could imagine the ruckus now.
