I totally get where BW is coming from... They do take a lot of pride in there work. Despite how most of us feel about the ending I really don't believe they intentionally meant to cause this amount of backlash on the endings. It's kinda hard to pass out cupcakes to the team with the tag line, the fans really hate the ending but heres some cupcakes they sent. So I totally get they why... Bioware gets the feedback (like they have been for the past few weeks), needy kids get cupcakes, everyone is happy. Well...

Okay I'd like to hear more than wait til april, but I'm not very patient...

Hey Bioware, you know what I find funny?

You're being offered three colours to choose from, and using your own critical thinking you've made your own decision and said "We choose option #4".

Giving Shepard that same choice would go a long way to showing you understand where this went wrong.

Very wise words...couldn't say it better myself.

I don't think giving the Reapers to charity will solve anything.

Hi Everyone

Today, we received the 400 cupcakes you collectively sent us through your donations to express your feelings about the endings of Mass Effect 3. We want you to know; we are indeed listening to all fan response and acknowledge your feedback. We appreciate creative and thoughtful attempts like this one.

The gesture certainly gained our attention both with its creativity and deliciousness. However, while we do appreciate that fans were creative in how they expressed their views, after a lot of discussion, we decided ultimately the reason that they were sent was not done in the context of celebrating the work or accomplishment of the Mass Effect 3 team. This is a subtle, but important aspect in determining how to pass the feedback to the team.

BioWare regularly works with many deserving charities,  as such it was decided that rather than passing  out the cupcakes to staff or wasting good food, to donate them on behalf of our fans to a local Edmonton youth shelter. We know that for the kids that have to use this facility, something as simple as a cupcake is a rare treat and would definitely brighten up their day.  Thank you to the fine folks at the local youth shelter for accepting the donation and to the fans who donated the cupcakes.

Please keep providing your feedback on Mass Effect 3, we’re still listening.

And the proper response to this is if you guys take our criticisms to heart and make changes, then maybe we will send you cupcakes as a thank you and you will want to eat them.  By the way 99% of the game Rocks but the ending, not so much.

Good move. The message already got through, they don't actually have to eat the cupcakes to "get it". Kids from youth shelter will be happy, everyone wins :)

I volunteered at a local Toronto Youth Shelter when I was in college... good move by Bioware, if the Edmonton shelters are anything like ours, they give those poor kids some pretty lame, bland and sometimes gross food (not really their fault, little to no funding and often really lousy donations as well)

It's a sobering thought that 402 cupcakes would be accepted by a single shelter. God in Heaven if each one finds a unique child.

We still have a long way to go, folks. :(

With all due respect.
I believe we made our intentions extremely clear about why we sent these to the bioware team. It is because we love mass effect and we love the team. This gesture was to show that and fan loyalty, and we gave your team the benefit of the doubt that you would be decent and listen to our feedback.

Absolutely no issue with them being donated to kids.

Definitely disagree with you making a decision to misinterpret and twist our good intentions & announce that we did this for the wrong reasons.
It's simply not true.

To tell loyal amazing fans "yeah you did this cool thing but we decided you did it for the wrong reasons so we do not accept this" is something I can't even wrap my head around. I personally am really disappointed in your response to this amazing gesture.

I have no problem with BW giving the cupcakes to charity. It´s nice move.  It´s this part, that bothers me:

With all due respect, for me, it WAS friendly gesture and thanks for all the work and accomplishment of the Mass Effect 3 team while recognizing that ending had issues, no matter what YOU decided.

They said no to the 3 choices and picked refuse.

This is a great point that I would like to highlight in the most constructive way possible.

I agree with their line of thinking; Its not a reward, its to let them know whats up. Plus, giving to charity is never a negative thing. :)

Despite Bioware's dismissive response, this was good. Fans banded together and did something that Bioware couldn't, and didn't, outright ignore. They got the message, and in a way I appreciate that they understood we were, infact, not sending the cupcakes to congratulate the team, but as protest of the endings.

Well, I can't really blame them, though I'm sad in a "wish they could have enjoyed some pastry" way.

I mean, it would have been a bit like eating an insult.... eating humble cupcake, in fact :X

@LoganKey - is there a collection of all the notes somewhere? I'd really love to read them!

So, this was our plan all along? It's... it's genius! Walked right into that one, didn't you, Bioware? :D

The cupcakes served their purpose. We got the word out. I kinda wish Priestly spoke from the heart instead of giving us a canned letter, but I understand everything needs to be approved by the PR team.

I'm just grateful for Eain's fantastic observation:

Why did BioWare give them away? They weren't given a 4th option. They were given three: A, B, or C. Taking a fourth option isn't fair because they didnt even offer this option to us in-game. No, instead we were forced to go along with the illogical argument from the starchild.

The very actions by BioWare in this thread demonstrate EXACTLY what was wrong with the endings...

BioWare, I hope you understand just how much your decision with the cupcakes deviates from your decision in game: that is forcing a decision down our throats without player input.

Really? Whatever gave you that impression? The tounge in cheek jab at the ending maybe?
Although if anything it does celebrate the work done by both Bioware and the Mass Effect in general, that they both care about you and so much about the story you told.
So many fans donated to give you tastey treats and many more left dissappointed that they missed the chance to donate (24 minute window is pretty small but if that doesn't scream we aren't all bitter and entirely angry at you I have no idea what will).
Was looking forward too hilarious pictures to pick me up after finding out I need more surgery this week :(.
Yay for the kids and all but...

Agreed, that severally irked me. Didn't Bioware say they were open to constructive feedback? We gave constructive and creative feedback while still being nice. I would've thought Bioware would've developed a thicker skin by now....

To be frank, I wonder how the rest of the world will view this. Obviously as fans and donators of the cupcakes we might be feeling a little rejected, but will outsiders view this as an obvious deflection as we do or just being sugary-sweet and the friend of children everyhwere?

Let's pat ourselves on the back anyway and concentrate on our efforts for PAX.

The problem is that writing a letter, sending an e-mail or some cupcakes is easy and most of us can participate in it. I didn't know about the cupcakes till yesterday, but I did sent a letter two weeks ago. These are things I can do.

Traveling around the world for a convention? Well, not so much.

Depends on what BioWare said when they delivered the cupcakes.

Here's hoping they mentioned the fan initiative at all.
