I personally think hair should be unique to humans. It's definitely a feature that seems to define humanity in Mass Effect.

Hated the stock-Talis long wavy hair. She looks FAR to human!

Why are all the female alien - LI or crewmates so human? I romanced Garrus and still love him, don't care about the way he looks.

Are men that shallow? There are enough space-boobs/ space-models in the game already.

I agree with you. I'm a guy but I think its so uncreative and lazy. Its unreal how many people actually like it

In general, pretty much. It's a big reason I've lost almost all interest in them romantically.

The hell? What about the fact that tonnes of us liked Tali for years despite the fact you couldn't even see her face?

Here's a fan made photoshop using the same stock photo that is much better than the one Bioware made. I still don't love the design, but check it out:

I am NOT sure why people complain about Tali being too "humanlike" Has anyone of you ever read the entry on quarians in the entry in the Mass Effect Wiki?

It states that:

Quarians are generally shorter and of slighter build than humans. Quarians have an endoskeleton, lips, teeth, and two eyes with eyelids and tear ducts; they also have three thick fingers on both hands which include a thumb, an index finger, and a long finger, similar to the middle fingers for humans, as well as three toes on each foot. Quarian facial structure and hair actually makes them the most similar to humans in physical appearance. Their lower legs are bowed backwards significantly, compared to asari or humans. Aside from hands and legs, their general body shape and sexual dimorphism is similar to humans.

Quarians don't have any horns, no scales, no whatever :D They look pretty humanlike (just the ears seem to look different from humans)

Their ears or ear analogues differ in a noticeable fashion from those of humans, with references made to "what [passes] for the quarian version of an ear".

hmm, nope.  Everytime I see it, it just screams how lazy and whogivesaf*ck BioWare has gotten.  For Gods sake when fan art is better than your paid game devs work, what does that say about attention and pride of the company?

Part of me hopes they did... THIS... On purpose. So they can gauge fan reactions and determine if people want a human tali or alien tali. Judging by a lot of peoples reactions so far I would say we want the latter.

I believe it was men who coined the term "butterface". A face is not necessary for sexual attraction.

That said, I'm not gonna just be a sexist and say that you all don't care about personality or anything, it's obvious most of you do, but it was my impression this thread was on a topic of a more physical nature.

To me anything works, really. I've said several times in these boards that if you love Tali, it's not because of how hot she is. You have Liara for that, who is basically forced down your throat wether you like her or not in the whole saga.

I like the OP's picture, but then I like Bioware's one too, even if it appears to be a lazy effort. More human, more alien, who really cares. It's Bioware's choice to determine how each of the alien creatures they created look, and there is absolutely no valid point to question that. Do I prefer her to be beautiful to human standards? Yes, of course, I won't be an hypocrite. Prior to the reveal, I wasn't sure I wanted to see her face. Now what I really want is an ingame model.

Yeah, but quarians aren't real :) They didn't have to be close to humans.

If we go by the Codex parameters, obviously the actual image given (and all the laziness it embodies) is still disgraceful. In addition to actually spending some time on the image - and preferably actually rendering it, the photo was just silly, I think there's  a few important things I'd do:

0. Human-like, but maybe not human. OK, maybe they have lips but are they really the exact same shape? Are the jaw-lips-nose proportions the same? Is the forehead-eyes-mouth ratio the same?

1. Hair. It doesn't work in that suit. It's not mentioned in the entry, so it's possible they have none, but they could also just keep it cropped.

2. Skin tone. I actually somehow thought quarians would be pigmentless (not entirely sure why, but relating to the suit) but as mentioned earlier, there's also some fairly compelling arguments for the skin being pretty dark. Although the nose does ‘glow’ similar to the eyes.

3. Eyes should probably be one colour.

4. Head shape could be molded a little closer to the shape implied by the helmet. Given all the other helmets, we can extrapolate that it's reasonably easy to make them fairly thin even including all appropriate filters and breathers, so maybe it's actually pretty close for quarians too. Also,

That accent. And the quirky attitude. In my book for character appeal (of LI's) it has to go Tali > Liara > and then a steep drop off to everyone else. Probably Miranda > Jack > Ashley

Sure they didn't have to. If established since (probably) ME1 - quarians had 10 eyes, no nose and 5 mouths, I'd swing with that too, because the lore says so.

If the lore says quarians are pink humans with glowing eyes trapped in suits, then I go with that too - because it is not real. It is fiction - and appereantly nobody really minded before revealing Tali's face.

It's been my experience that generally people weren't happy with the photo we got of Tali, because it doesn't seem to fit her personality (for obvious reasons - it's just a stock photo of a model). Personally I always imagined her with a pixie cut and a spunky demeanour, not a graceful, long-haired beauty.

All your points are answered by Tali's picture, really. Assume it as canon, whether you like it or not. It is really up to Bioware to decide how each race looks, since they created them, and all that revolves around them. People do not question their ship designs, their envirosuit designs, and should not question their appearance, the same as turians, krogan, asari or hanar aren't questioned either.

I'll repeat, I do like the OP's vision of a Quarian, and if Bioware had decided to roll with it I'd have accepted it too. But that's not the case. While it's fine to question Mass Effect's ending due to objective reasons for which the players have felt cheated, misled or disappointed, there is really no valid argument to move Bioware from what they, the creators, have already decided as canon for the quarian race.

For those that are too lazy, here's the Mass Effect wiki quote on Quarian appearance:

Quarians are generally shorter and of slighter build than humans. Quarians have an endoskeleton, lips, teeth, and two eyes with eyelids and tear ducts; they also have three thick fingers on both hands which include a thumb, an index finger, and a long finger, similar to the middle fingers for humans, as well as three toes on each foot. Of the species in game they are noted as being the most human like, considering the Asari they were bound to be very similar.

Cool design for a Quarian. Looks a bit too elegant and self-confident to be Tali (yes I know looks can be deceiving in real life, but there's this thing called "visual storytelling" in visual art), but good job nonetheless.

Ah, I always love it when someone posts a thread with his pic in it.  Love it so much!

That said, there's another thread with Tali pics that has been going for a while, and even has a poll linked to it!  Check it out.

I think most of you still don't get it.

Tali just barely became a squadmate in this game, so it shouldn't surprise anyone that Bioware had nothing planned for her.

In the final moments of the game I noticed how she stands there next to Anderson, she doesn't look like she even belongs there. You'd think that ADMIRAL Tali would have a few Quarians standing next to her but even Reager got killed in an off-scene E-mail.

Tali and Shepard's relationship with her is almost treated like a footnote.

I'll have to disagree here.

Sure, it wasn't comparable to Liara's romance, since Liara just ****s the spotlight for half the game even for those that don't care that much about her, unfortunately. But her romance dialog feels full of emotion and is very fulfilling. At least it was to me.

Ask Jack's fans how they feel about the kiss and two-second dance they get as whole romance plot...
