The best that ever happened with the ending is that it got a major part of the community to work together!

We're only the minority to the magazines that support Bioware and to Bioware.

Regarding Neutrality of gaming magazines, I was actually shocked how the american gaming sites were reacting to the fans. The only reaction from Michael Graf of GameStar we got was - abbreviated - this:
"I like the endings, but I understand why some people don't!"

Here it's all bashing and namecalling.

I guess you could say we germans learned the hard way what suppressing minorities get's ya.

There are a lot of unacounted for players in your chart.

What's funny is that you're more than willing to draw your own conclusions from limited data when deciding the size of your movement, but you can't do the same thing to make sense of a thought provoking ending.

Hilarious.

Here's a funny thought, maybe we're drawing the conclusion that we're the majority because in everys ingle poll we've seen to date we are? You'd think if we were the minority at least a single poll on the whole big wide internet with more than 1k votes would paint us in a more equal position. Instead, the average poll has over 85% participants in favor of changing the ending.

At some point, when do we have to stop proving we're not the minority and your side has to actually attempt to prove it's the majority?

While not german but international, this poll is also quite interesting. found here:

The first three answers are all technically pro-ending-change So we have 65,26% okay with ending change.
And that's on Gamefaqs, one of THE major gaming sites out there!

The problem with all polls on the Internet is that they may be influenced by people linking to them on fan forums/social media etc. From a statistical standpoint, the sampling is indeed broken and that is why these polls are not representative (in a scientific sense).

However, having seen the ending, I have a hard time in understanding how anybody could have liked that. Maybe it is less crushing if you do not have emotional attachment to the series, but in its current state it is simply broken.

Also, even if we are indeed a minority, I guess it is fair to say that a loyal fan base is a rather important minority.

I voted in the aforementioned GameFAQs poll, but even that one oozes bias against the anti-ending crowd. Funny how the "Yes" option makes us look exactly like the entitled consumers the media has been painting us as, while the other two remotely positive options just seem indecisive. "If it's what the users want, they should get it." Really? How about "if the users want an ending that makes sense, they should get it."

Actually BioWare can produce their own poll easily. As we all need Origin (compare Stargate SG-1 Season 9 and 10) to play it, they have our phone numbers, e-mail adresses, some say even our social security number and our diets, they can write or call the customers (5,000 randomly picked) and ask following questions:

1) Have you finished Mass Effect 3
2) If yes: did you like the ending? If no: sorry for bothering you, have a nice day and buy lots of our dlc.
3) If no: would you like it changed? If yes: Thanks for your time, have a nice day and buy lots of our dlc.
4) If yes and no: Thanks for your time, have a nice day and buy lots of our dlc.

Urg.

Self selection polls are not representative of any given population, beyond the ones who voted in the poll. You cannot extrapolate from one and claim it's evidence that something is a majority opinion.

The thing is, I subscribed GameStar for years. The polls get their own subsection in each printed edition (monthly), so everyone can participate either per letter or per internet.
Basically, everyone that is part of the GameStar community can participate and at least the print edition had a circulation of around 6 figures, (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/GameStar) which is quite a lot for a gaming magazine in Germany. It is also among the oldest magazines in Germany to date. Only 2 other magazines are on par.

So, while we have to take a number of people who did not play ME 3 out of the equation, I would say this is one of the most unbiased polls to date. GameStar regularily advertises their polls AND they are on Bioware's side. They were perfectly happy with the ending, which made me wonder, personally, and even defended it in an additional commentary. Though they admitted it flaws, their bottom line was, that fixing it retroactively would be worse.

There's so much manipulation written into that. I'll explain.

Top options: Passive aggressive, and paint anyone who wants a new ending in a bad light.
Bottom options, Defensive, implied that if they do make new endings, they're giving up, paints bioware in a sympathetic light.

Basically it's only people who care enough about the poll options that answer...

So basically only people that care about Mass Effect will answer to that. Joe casual won't give a damn anyway.

Yep selection bias all over the place, doesn't mean the input isn't valid just that we don't if it is representative or not.

Mmmh... JFK Doughnuts....

To be honest, he didn't really say that, though. He should have said "Ich bin ein Krapfen!"... that would have been great...

boy I should become a speech writer for politicians who visit Germany... "Ich bin ein Frankfurter Würstchen!"... I'd be great at that.

Ah well, back to building Panzer divisions on order to PLEAZE ZE KAISER!

Well, on the bright side, at least the ending doesn't cause cancer.
