Folks have soloed the game on every difficulty, with every class. Figure your tactics out, and your team will be fine.

* A mage with Mana Clash, an archer with Arrow of Slaying, Zevran attacking from Stealth, from behind with Flurry, or Dog with Overwhelm will take care of most enemy mages

* I find Sten falls down a lot; make sure you've got enough health potions, especially if you're not a mage/healer

* Scattershot for Archer to the Paralysis line for mages are great crowd control. If Sten and/or Alistair get the entire Champion spec, their War Cries will not only stun opponents, but also knock them down. You can have them alternate: Sten uses it, then when opponents get back up, Alistair uses it; then when Sten's comes off of cooldown, Sten uses it...

* Zevran's combat stealth is awesome. You can hold the party and send him ahead to scout, detect/disarm traps (if you give him some Deft Hands), do some looting and get into position to backstab enemy mages. Take the party off of hold, and when they move into range of the enemies, control Zevran and have him backstab. (And then run, run, run back to the party, because he's probably in the middle of a lot of enemies and a tank, he's not.)

Have fun with your group! They should be fun to listen to. :)

My only gripe would be with Zevran. The AI is too stupid to use Rogue Dual Wielders terribly effectively. I would suggest taking lots of CC talents building both Alistair and Sten towards tanking (Sten is squishy early on, but with a strength build and some good armour, this'll soon improve) to keep control of the enemy, as well as keeping an eye to see if he's ever getting pummeled. In which case mage is a good bet for you - lots of CC and direct damage lockdowns.Otherwise you could just make your own character pretty autonomous and take control of Zevran during combat. In which case archer is a pretty good bet. Very autonomous.

Also bare in mind archer is a notoriously weak build. Not impossible, but it's a harder build to play than any other.

I seem to recall that, with my archer Warden, I directly controlled Zevran a lot, like Ferretinabun says. Not a problem for me, because I ended up strongly preferring stabby-stabby time to shooty-shooty time. :)

Paralyze runes in the daggers.
Tactics set to attack targets which are attacking allies in an order of importance.
Stealth when being attacked himself.
Dirty tricks on mages/enemies attacking the rogue.
low blow on elites and higher
poultice sucking at 50%

no one is easier to write tactics for.

also, to utilize any dagger rogue to optimal performance, move the tank instead of the rogue so as to drag enemies between them.  this not only avoids damage for a few seonds on the tank but groups the remainder of melee enemies for any area of effect spells from your casters, i.e. Cone of Cold or Walking bomb.  And your rogue is being dragged into perfect flanking position for continual stabs.  Less wasted time for the entire encounter.

glad someone seems to enjoy being a archer i swear so many people put down the archer class with good reason but come on i say the archer class is very fun but you really think i should control Zevran? if WarDog or Sten uses taunt the AI wouldn't be smart enough to use that to back stab enemies? i've played this once but i was the rogue in my last playthrough so i didn't see the AI in work that much

There's a big difference in Tanking with Sten versus Tanking with Alistair. I'd leave poor Dog at home and use Alistair as my tank. You can mess around with Dog on a later playthrough. Did you say what difficulty setting you play on? Your really set on going without a mage? That's unusal too.

If you want my personal opinion I love Warriors and Archers, but that's me. Two-hand and Duel-wielding is probably more interesting,

I like playing sword & shield on Easy/Normal settings, because I love bashing the enemies around with a shield and at those difficulties their relative lack of damage is less of a problem. The animations feel brutal, you almost feel sorry for the poor sods getting hit with several pounds of metal.

Sten starts with Indomitable. While this is active, he is immune to kock down effects... so what's the problem?

Sten is more DPS for me than a Tank. He goes in and chops up the small baddies while Alistair holds the bigger threats. Otherwise, he would help alistair double team the biggest threat and then hack their way down the food chain.

Alistair is ;)

Tank. If that doesn't work, tank harder!

Stand there, pull threat, hit stuff. Repeat.
