I mentioned Morinth already

Every other character redeemed him/herself in my eyes. Even Ash. She wasn't my first romance - but the first one in a full playthrough. First one was Liara.

I meant that for me not every character have flaws. Some of them are kinda perfect (in bad way).

Heh, some characters make you cringe every time they're on screen. They just rub you the wrong way.

Yeah, first impressions tend to distort our views on certain characters and who they really are.

My first impression of Wrex wasn't that great either. I thought he was ugly and a relatively useless squadmate who was hostile towards you in terms of conversation. I grew to like him more and more as I kept going back to talk to him.

Miranda was a problem for me at first because all I got out of her was "I'm genetically superior" crap and a little hostility to Shepard at first. As time progressed with more talks and her loyalty mission, I could understand what she went through and her rather jealousy of Shepard's skills as a leader. So when the problem came out, it was worked out, and friendship blossomed.

Even Jack was a problem for me when ME2 came out. I just thought she was a psychotic unthankful b*tch who didn't care what happened to others. I kept trying to talk, but more and more, she still resisted with hostility. But after I did her loyalty mission, I had sympathy for her because of what she endured, finding that there was a lot of betrayal in her life, and even the loss of someone she loved. That hit me hard when I found out. I was glad that she moved on and mentored others at Grissom Academy, and the fact that she looked out for her students as if they were her kids was just amazing for me.

Now characters I don't like for example with dislike (not hatred) from the beginning with no redeeming qualities: Udina, Morinth, and what a surprise: Batarians. Sure I didn't kill some of them outright, but I couldn't trust most of them at all. Too many possible repercussions.

I don't "hate" anyone ... but some characters I just don't like. Jacob, Kelly, Diana Allers for example. I think they are boring.

This. And some are just plain annoying to me, like Vega and Jack.

At least, Jack WAS annoying. ME2 Jack. ME3 Jack kicks a metric ton of ass and pleasantly surprised me.

Well, if you are nice to Jack in ME2 and talk to her a lot she acts similar on the end of ME2 too. But, I know. Most of people just like characters that are cool and nice since first meeting. Why anyone should waste a time for getting closer with character that has difficult personality. It's NPC's job to be nice! ;)

Hmm..I agree hate is a strong word but well, I must honestly say that ther were characters that rubbed me the wrong way and they get on my "List of most dislikable characters in the ME series":

Starchild: Ruined all of 100+ hours of gameplay in just 10 minutes. Oh Maradeur Shields why didn't I listen!

Kai Leng: Yeah I know he didn't have a big role in ME3 but what he did ingame (killing Thane) was enough to make me furious, and to top it off his racism and actions in the novels grants him a second place.

Ronald Taylor: Creating you own harem and taking away people's free will? Oh yeah, he cemented his third place.

T.I.M: Ok, I get the whole "Humanity First" thing, but his methods...let's just say there are a number of four letter words to describe them.

Udina: "And that's why I hate politics" 'nuff said Ashley.

I liked him in ME2. His methods was ok back then. But in ME3 his methods of making humanity strong was, so damn idiotic:
- Killing millions of humans
- Destroying colonies
- Fighting with human fleet
- Indoctrinating humans

In ME2 he was gray character and it was great. But in ME3 they changed him into completely evil black character :/.

I hate a few characters because I feel they are dumb, annoying and poorly made characters. I hate them the same way I hate Jar Jar Binks. And very little beats killing them off during the suicide mission.

Others I love to hate. They are for example the well written villains like Saren.

I can't say I even really disliked any of the characters in the series outright. I liked Thane, even though he mentioned something about the Drell believing that they aren't responsible for some of their actions... I found the religion altogether odd, but I didn't blatantly dislike it.

That's why I enjoy the ME series and RPG's in general. I like different and distinct characters, as well as seeing how they interact(and in the case of most RPG's) and function as a group. For example, I didn't care much for Jack, Miranda, or Vega at offset. Still don't care overly much for Miranda in ME3, but I understand and appreciate her role and backstory within the series itself. And I still like her much more than I do Vega. The "big meathead jock" archetype largely disinterests me.

Not to Femshep. I had to stop talking to her to avoid the "girl's club" crap and then getting completely shut out. Plus even after her loyalty mission she says she "still wants to kill everyone she sees," though she was at least slightly apologetic about it. So no, I didn't like ME2 Jack at all. Had she still been as difficult to deal with in ME3 I would have retroactively gotten her killed.

I don't know. My GF said that she didn't have problems with Jack. She ended up being nice and stuff.

I can't stand Jack. I think she looks ridiculous, and in a game with big stupid jellyfish that's quite an accomplishment. But the thing I hate the most, is that she is supposedly a 'deep' character, when she's just like every angstridden teen out there imho. She is not deep, she's an emo psychopath. Probably not the correct term, but you get it.

There is one even worse, though, and that's James. He's even worse than Jack, because even though I hate almost everything about her, she at least has some kind of use in the series. She fits, how crazy that may sound. James does not. He is a useless addition and is only there to take up a spot in my squad. People call Kaidan and Jacob boring, but this guy takes the cake. I'd rather have him in ME2, so I could let him die, or even choose not to recruit him. And I'm even stuck with him in the beginning of the game. What gives, I don't care for his character and I don't want him forced on me. And for crying out loud, we have had enough generic space marines in videogames already.

I wasn't fussed on Kaidan just because I found him boring. He's about the only character I never really warmed to. There were other characters I didn't like right away though, like Mordin, Wrex, Grunt and Ashley but got to like them eventually. Oops forgot about Jacob, he had to be avoided for the most part so Shepard wouldn't try to flirt with him, at least he has the decency to make me laugh with "the prize" which is more than I can say for Kaidan.

I felt like I was supposed to dislike Jack, Miranda and Morinth but eventually warm to them (except maybe Morinth) but to be honest I liked each of them instantly. Morinth was a really interesting character, I think the writers missed an opportunity there.

Oh yeah. Let's make everyone look the same. Nice smiley faces for everyone. Who need variety?

But at same time you whine about generic characters. Woha, you are awesome.

I dislike these threads, sorry, but usually they just bring in arguments from people seeing their favourite character getting hated on. I do understand your intention with this thread and it's interesting to see why certain characters bring out different vibes from people, but there is already a lot of negativity on these forum, I prefer to indulge in the opposite, lol.

Yes, because there can't be variety without at least one of the squadmembers looking ridiculous. Way to miss the point.

I agree with OP. Hate is just such a strong word. I think you can DISLIKE a character. But hate? I don't get it.

Agreed, I think people don't seem to comprehend the true meaning of the word and thus what they deem as hate they actually just 'dislike',

Of course there are some people that do really 'hate' characters in games, but I think that speaks volumes about them than the characters.

I can't think of any ME character whom I have disliked, let alone hate, I suppose that is because there are some characters whom we are clearly supposed to dislike but we end up liking them because of that. Like TIM for example, the way Sheen voices him and his character as a whole, I can't help but like the guy for being the way he is.

It's your opinion that she looks ridiculous. For me she looks great. And she won poll for the hottest character in ME so it's not only my opinion. ;)

Hey, can understand you. Was pondering to post it at all - for more than an hour.

Did it 'cause I want to know why people -really- hate certain characters. That's it. It's not meant to turn into a flamefest or something.

Heck with it, I saw a lot of people hating characters out of different reasons:

- Kaidan "boring whiny dude"
- Ashley "bigot space racist"
- Miranda "b*tchy genetically optimized b*tch"
- Tali "space gypsy"
- Jacob "even worse than Kaidan"
- Liara "shoved down my throat"
- Wrex "stupid character"
- Grunt "not Wrex"
- Vega "worse than Jacob"
- Cortez "he's gay!!!!!!!"
- ...

I saw'em all.

And must say: I didn't understand a single one.

Word, it's all good. People involve themselves emotional into certain characters because they can usually see apart of them in those individuals. Yet, we can get the reaction of "hate" because of real life experiences and what's influenced us through life - we may think of someone we dislike and if we see a hint of that in certain character, it can drive us to look past what's really there (but you may still dislike the character, regardless and that's fine).

I dislike Morinth, but I understand her situation and motives - she either gets seclusion from the world or death - neither is a great choice, but it wasn't her fault she was born that way. Yet she (that's the important part) decided to dive herself further into her own desires and such, but don't we all? The thing is, her desires kill, lol.

Yeah, I fully support you. Mainly because if there will so much hate about characters because of their personality or look then we will start getting bunch of generic companions.

The only character I "hate" is Liara. I like her as a character, but I absolutely loathe Bioware egging me into romancing her or making her my Shepard's BFF. I'm just sick of seeing her blue face all the damn time, same with team dextro.

Well, if that was opinion then it was angry one - heavy words and stuff like that. Be a little bit tolerant, even if they are just fictional characters. Games would be boring if they would be filled with only characters that fits perfectly your taste.
