I feel like a Minority here, But I also feel like I have a lot more things to be angry at Bioware for than this.
Is there anyone else who wasn't genuinley PO'ed about the Tali Picture, or the manner in which you discovered her appearance?
This is my opinion on the matter, I respect the opinons of others, regardless of their viewpoints on it,
In the ending of the Reaper Base on Rannoch Mission, Where Tali goes "But right now...etc queue dramatic scene* I verbally went "oh shi-", and then it just shows the back of her head. I admit I laughed at that, I knew that I should have seen it coming,
But then I thought "They aren't seriously going to put this off again, I'll probably find out later"
Then of course 10 minutes later you discover the Picture in your cabin, This is probably what more people complain about, the whole modified freeware image controversy.
I'm apart of a mod team for another game, and we have on many occasions used Freeware and Open source material as a starting point for everything from textures to models. So from an ameteur developers standpoint, I can somewhat sympathise with this.
But the bigger the company, the worse it looks on them, Yes it's somewhat "lazy" but aside from that they've done nothing wrong, Like I said, I think there are a lot bigger things to be angry about than this.
And the other side of the Picture was simply what they chose for Tali's appearance, this in turn was for all quarians, and they chose something that was shockingly similar to humans, This too I felt like I saw it coming, but it was still a pleasant surprise. I can at least find comfort in knowing that my Char's LI are something I don't need to feel creeped out or shocked by.
It feels odd considering how many people are uproaring about it for me to say that I actually liked what they chose for her. Again, it would have been better if they made an image from scratch, but that's besides the point.
TL;DR, Long story short, anyone else generally "OK" with the picture fiasco? whether it be the fact they modified an image, or the appearance in general? I was "satisfied" with both I guess.
-Not- Irked by Tali's Appearance?

I was fine with how she looked but I just wish we could have seen her face rendered in-game.

Stock Image or not, I think That would have redeemed the incident,

Yeah, they've had plenty of time and also plenty of build-up for it. They knew we'd want to see her and they dropped the ball. I'm guessing this is just one of the EA "c'mon, let's sell this thing already" cutting room floor casualties. Bioware has never fallen to this sort of pressure before, but I can't see how the new features (mulitplayer) could really have interfered much with a simple model and skin job. I also can't see how even getting a nude Tali modeled could have taken more than a few days for a production artist, let alone a whole team. Our guys get pushed hard for quality and they could probably do it in a week, and they don't have the original Tali model to start from.

The appearance they chose was fine (beautiful), but the hand was rather poorly done and showed the hastiness in which it was created. I'm fine with the look they've presented, but an actual 3d model would do well to improve the situation as a whole and stifle the outrage at Bioware for using a stock image.

The problem is not the appearance but the rush job that they did...

For me it's actually really uncanny to see that image in the game. It's like all the characters are created with in-game graphics but Tali's face is a realistic photo that actually raises a ton of questions as to how she got this picture? Kinda reminds me of say ren and stimpy or something where they zoom in on the character's face and it looks super realistic (lol)

The funny thing about that picture (along with wtf where, who, how) is that two hundred years from now they somehow don't have auto-correcting anti-flare tech for their cameras.....

I'm completely fine with Tali's appearance on the photo, I just wished it was rendered in-game, that's all.

Well, we can assume that she took the picture on Rannoch while they were setting up the resettlement?
The reason why there isn't a 3d model is easy enough to state - the same reason why there are no male quarians in multiplayer. Cutting corners at every turn. BUT. They did bother to make a whole separate half-naked Miranda for ME2, from what I hear (haven't gone that far yet myself), Liara's sex scene is explicit a-la ME1, so yes, I'd say this shows lack of forethought.
I know that they had to try to please the entire fanbase, and I like the appearance in the photo (let's leave out the fact that the design they finally used looks like the stuff people already used in some of the Rule 34 fanart I've seen on the Interwebs since the second game came out), but it still feels like a massive lazy cop-out. They wouldn't've been making a fully animated model, but one used for a specific context (the animations for which are mostly recycled ANYWAY), so there couldn't've been that many issues other than settling on an appearance design and actually MAKING THE MODEL. Oh well, cheated out of the fun stuff again, just like in DA2 (where it could've as well been PG-13 if you turn the blood off).

lol I know right!
It's like:
-How did she take this picture?
-Where is her suit?
-Why is her hand photo shopped incorrectly?
-Where is she? (doesn't look like rannoch)
-Shouldn't she be dead from infection in this picture? (Well she would be if you f'd up the rannoch scene)
-Who is taking the picture? Friggin' santa claus?
And by far my biggest complaint: she looks way too human. She looks SO human... that she practically is just a space babe in a suit. Dang how uncreative! What about alien races like turians and salarians and all those awesome designs. We already got asari for human clones why do quarians gotta look like that too?!

^ this. they could have had the picture in cabin, but when the love scene came they could at least had her face redered even if it was for like 5 seconds.

Well, just look at her face - through the visor you can already see Quarians have basically human features. I think it's funny that Javik states that in his time the "primitive" Quarians were considered very attractive.

Why is everyone so puzzled about how the picture was taken? Obviously no one snaps portraits faster than Chiktikka vas Paus.

I like Tali, but I was never interested in romancing her or seeing her face. I liked the mystery. However, I think what they did was really cheap.

I liked it, never saw the stock photo until it was brought up here on BSN. Thought she was lovely.

It's tacky and more than a little surprising. Tali's face was something Casey Hudson was tweeting about months ago. It's a big deal for a lot of fans.
I'm not wild about Tali or anything. Her build was so bad in ME2 that I still hold a grudge. But come on, Bioware. Tacky. Tacky, tacky, tacky.

I agree, she looks fine, but it looks like someone made this up in 5 minutes. That does not do the character any justice.

Agreed. How she looks like isn't exactly the problem, though know where the pic comes from spoils it in the end. I was more disappointed on how they revealed it. After that cutscene on Rannoch that pic seems just to be lousy and quickly pieced together. Didn't they say they're discussing Tali's face a lot? This just seemed to be pieced into the game in the last second.

I agree, OP and for the record I love Tali.
I know my opinion is going to be a minority one, but I actually liked the photo. Until it was revealed to be a royalty-free image, I thought she looked lovely. I understand that people wanted more and I completely understand why they would want more, I still think the picture was a nice idea in theory. When it comes to Tali, it was never about what she looked like, but about the fact that she was a good friend and a little sister to my Shepards.
But--I think the term "lazy" is thrown about too haphazardly here. We fans are a demanding bunch, and the devs really are only human. I don't even want to think about how much hours of work they put into this game as is so I in comparision to some of the issues, I think this one is not so big.

I'm not particularly perturbed.
Then again, I'm not a Talimancer.

i'm kinda suprised peopl egot so much in a grump about the photo, i loved it, thought it was a very touching pic and the way you view it i thought was great . . i admit it would have been nice to see it rendered in 3d. . it took me a whole day to get over the fact that the pic was ripped from a stock photo maybe that is lazy . . but imho i dont give a rats arse where they got it from or how they photoshopped it i thought it was lovely . .
and quarians can survive out of their suits without dying . . i mean if she can take her suit off and get a bit of shepherd in her then i'm assuming she can take her suit off for 2 minutes to take a pic as long as she's heavilly dosed on antibiotics first . . just like in me2 . .
and well i still loved it so there lololol but totally understand if anyone else feels upset by the image.
cant please everyone. ..

I gather that the OP's opinion is not necessarily in the minority. Since the image doesn't really bother us, we aren't as vocal as those who are utterly devastated by it.
The reception seems mixed, but for the most part (at least from what I gather in the popular Tali forums and all of the new deviantart) people are totally fine with the way she looks (her face, at least). Regarding how she was revealed, most of us preferred to see her modeled in-game in some fashion.
In my opinion, the issue is trivial. She's beautiful. I imagine I'm not alone when I say that I'm all for more time with my LI. If there's enough demand for extended scenes/missions (face reveal in 3D), then so be it. As it stands, there are more important demands that need to be addressed first.
