I'm using the AT-12 Raider right now as well on my newest Vanguard playthrough although I still end up doing a lot of weaponless killing. But it's a great shotgun for the Vanguard because it can fire so fast and does a good amount of damage. The weight is alright as well (have it on Level V right now, no NG+). Without Smart Choke upgrades I can't hit anything though (except an Atlas) that is more than a few steps away from me... the spread is insane. But for close up fights after a charge I find it to be the best shotgun. I think Level V just puts me at around 172% cooldown reduction which is ok.

@Kronner: mind posting your build? Did you spec for the 15% Shotgun Damage and 15% Weapon Damage for 3 seconds after a succesful Charge? I can't let go of the power damage evolutions because I just like to rely on powers a lot although I try to avoid using Charge/Nova all the time and mix it up with Pull/Charge, Pull/Reave, Reave/Charge and Reave/Nova whenever I'm not just going the simple Charge/Shotgun way. Also I need to do some more testing with Barrier... I just didn't find it very useful because of the cooldown increase which almost forced me to wear the Inferno Armor which looks horrible and to use the -30% at the last evolution instead of additional damage protection. And while I have cooldown when using Reave I find it more useful overall because it gives me more damage protection than Barrier (although not all the time and not vs. synthectics), does damage and can be used for biotic combos with Charge or Nova. But like I said... I need to do some more testing with it I guess and maybe play a Vanguard that relies even more on his shotgun next time.

Yeah, I went weapon damage over power damage where I could. I took max. Radius/Half Nova because I use it as stunner/CC, not direct damage power (except against big enemies).

Build is:

Inferno Ammo:
rank 4 - Damage
rank 5 - Headshots
rank 6 - Explosive Burst

Charge:
rank 4 - Force and Damage
rank 5 - Weapon Synergy
rank 6 - Barrier

Nova:
rank 4 - Radius
rank 5 - Half Blast
rank 6 - Pierce

Assault Mastery:
rank 4 - Damage
rank 5 - Weight Capacity
rank 6 - Shotgun Damage

Fitness:
Max. shields and health

Barrier:
rank 4 - Barrier Strength
rank 5 - Power Synergy
rank 6 - Power Recharge 

With Inferno Armor and Barrier you get permanent 20% damage resistance and 55% power damage...for free.
I got another 10% power damage for playing NG+ from Liara (fish upgrade lol) and some other minor bonuses. Another 10% comes from Assault Mastery rank 4. I think it works out to a total of approximately 80-90% power damage, so even Half Nova/Radius does a ton of damage when needed.

And yeah, Smart Choke is a must on the Raider imho. Fortunately this particular upgrade makes the weapon black, and it looks absolutely awesome IMHO. The other mod I am using is the Shredder Mod.

I experimented some more and think I will start over with Barrier now. Going with the +10% additional damage protection evolution though because I found it more useful after some testing and the cooldown difference isn't that much of a problem. I'd rather like to have the Raider Shotgun at Level X though for the weight reduction. I will still go with the power damage evolutions for now I think because they seemed more useful to me (I did not feel the need to have more shotgun damage but I need it for the Nova I still use and when choosing Radius and Half Nova a lot of damage is missing). The downside to all this is that I have to use that ugly Inferno Armor. The stats are just too good and I need it, especially when choosing the additional 10% damage protection from Barrier Rank 6. I was rolling with the default N7 Armor on my Vanguard because it looks nice and the Vanguard is really the only class that can somehow make use of additional health. But oh well... ugly Inferno Armor it is now. Anyways... I'm growing more fond of that shotgun on the Vanguard the more I use it.

Yeah, I used N7 parts in my first two Vanguard runs, but I wanted to try something else after that. I really like Inferno Armor now (except for the helmet - but that disappears in conversations). As for weapon damage over power damage preference, I don't wanna Nova to steal all potential shotgun kills, lol.

I'll avoid playing ME3 after this run, at least for some time. But in the future, I wanna do a no-Nova Raider run. I've done this with Graal, and while it was fun, I think Raider would be even better for that particular playstyle.
