If you ain't gonna do it right don't do it at all. If you're gonna have sex scenes either make them realistic or leave them out of the game...

Part of me agrees with you.  The other part, however, remembers what a pervert my Warden looked like during his sex scenes with Morrigan and Leliana.  I don't know why, but for some reason my Warden's facial expressions just looked really off.

Yet breasts are showed in ME1 for Liara, Ashley, and Femshep. I think they need to be redone or like what themightygoosh said leave the scenes out.

Off-hand, I'd say it has more to with the fact that 3D animation of humans (and humanoid creatures) still doesn't look quite right.  Just look at their hands!  Half the time it looks like they're "sort of" grabbing an object and at other times, there are clipping issues!

Ah common, don't be so nitpicking. The bed scene with Liara was well done, I didn't saw any clipping errors. And even when there were any, I still don't see why anybody should feel uncomfortable because of that.

lol, with the ending as it were, I haven't had much opportunity to think about this issue. Was it necessary for the actors to get naked? probably not. In retrospect it might have been a good idea for BioWare to add "naked" scenes. It would have taken some of the pressure off the end being so bad.

I think YOU are missing the point.  It is patently ridiculous and jarring to see a character get in the shower WITH HER BRA ON.  NO WOMAN sleeps in her bra.  It wrecks the imersion.  It dorks the suspension of disbelief and is in your face about doing it too.  

You don't have to have realistic depictions of sex, just more mature, intelligent, reasonable, and realistic depictions (no bras in the shower, no bras worn in bed while having sex OR when waking in the morning).  That leaves a LOT of latitude.

ME1 is still the champ when it comes to depiction of sex in the ME series.  Hands down.

Women will wear their bra in the shower, if their pervert date (on the freaking first sort of date!) insits that they shower with the door open... in the words of vega: "So are you just gonna stadn there and watch?". That was a realy strange scene, that just makes femshep look like sex crazed pervert lesbien. I have no personel problem with lesbiens, not even the pervert one; as a man i'm not realy their target of choice. I just don't wanna roleplay one, which since I don't have to is not realy a problem for me.

I don't see nudity as a necessity, so long as the scenes are mature and well written. Liara's romance scene in Mass Effect 3 is probably the best romance scene in the entire series, and her naughty bits are obscured or out of focus.

The way they did them was classy. I would prefer Bioware continue in this vein if they're going to model the action themselves. The action was intimate but didn't go so far as to reveal the limitations of what Bioware's artists can do.

I did see the Kotaku article discussing the sex scenes that were more showy, and I agree with it. If Bioware isn't going to do something like Uncharted and have mocap, then the close intimate moments where they whisper to each other and discuss their fears and hopes are just as perfect, probably more than perfect.

It's unnecessary. I'd prefer something meaningful over something explicit, and they handled that aspect well.

No it isnt because what I MEANT was that there are games where sex (and not only the normal kind) is the entire point in it. It may sound racist, but it is sadly true: Most of these are from asia.

But Mass Effect isn't about sex. It's about a realistic sci fi experience through space magic. This is simply about a realistic sex scene. Something you are handed about 12 times in Heavy Rain and no one really flipped out, Sure there was slight backlash but nothng like Fox' 2007 reaction.

As I recall about that reaction, they ultimately toned down their criticism when they actually SAW the scene in question (the one and only implied sex scene in ME1).  Once they saw it, they essentially said, "Oh...OK, not a problem."
