Although the duration is only 10 seconds, so perhaps Inferno is still more powerful? Inferno seems to me like the most powerful spell. Although it helps you can find so much gear to boost fire damage. Only things that seem to have good resistance are dragon creatures (dragons, drakes, dragonlings etc).
Tempest I'm disappointed with. I haven't tried storm of the century, i just don't want to invest the points for it (too late this game as i'm already too high a level)
i'm a little confused about the spell descriptions on that page. Tempest says it does the damage every 2 seconds, that is fairly straight forward. Inferno say it does the damage over 4 seconds. But targets still seem to take damage if they stay in it.
So what are your all thoughts on the most powerful single spell (by this I"m not including storm of the century or anything enhanced by spell might- I never seem to have enough slots to take spell might...)

What makes Blood Wound so powerful is not necessarily the damage per tick, but the fact that it CCs everything it hits and is party-friendly. You can round up a dozen enemies and cast that thing in the middle of your group, then laugh.
The short cooldown means it's up multiple times in a longer battle, as well.

Depends on what you mean by most powerful. I would say blood wound, force field or cone of cold.

Not even close. Damage wise every school other than Creation has something that outclasses it.

Storm of the Century is probably the most damaging. You have to be careful casting it with FF on or else it can easily wipe you.

As for pure damage Mana Clash is the hardest hitter when used against strong spellcasters (with large mana pools). They are rare though, so the spell is pretty situational.
Other than that, Blood Wounds is the most overpowered spell in the game. Crowd Control+Damage spells rolled into one is an important part of what makes Mages overpowered.

How is trivializing every mage and demon fight situational? Other than bosses, these are the only things that can genuinely kill your entire party.

Yup. I think most of the uncertainty about Mana Clash comes from the thought that it kills *only* mages.

for sure Inferno is the highest damage spell when used on its own. not counting special circumstances like Mana Clashing a caster with a big mana pool or Entropic Death combo or anything like that. just the spell on its own, no special help. Inferno is #1.
to clarify the damage interval (since some seemed confused as to how this is 4 seconds but other storm type spells are 2 seconds), the way it works is by inflicting a 4 second duration DoT on mobs every 4 seconds. the DoT appears to tick twice (once every 2 seconds) so effectively its the same damage interval as the other storms for as long as the mob stays in the Inferno. however, they will continue to burn for 4 seconds even after running out.

Most powerful is kind of subjective. It depends what enemy you are facing, what party members you have, etc. etc. Blood Wound is great if you are an Arcane Warrior as well, Affliction Hex is great if you have another mage with a lot of Primal spells in your party, Crushing Prison is just broken, and of course Mana Clash = dead. As everyone says, mages are very, very powerful.
