I agree. Our outcry over the ending is a testament to how captivating their games were. I have never seen a game generate this much emotional attachment.

This.

People are only so angry over the ending because the rest of the game was just do damned awesome.

Considering how careful is Bioware regarding religion, and even more christian religion, I would not assume the connection so easily.

How one could screw up the last 10 minutes of such an awesome series is incomprehendable. And even if the indoctrination theory is true, they managed to mess that up too, as no one seems to understand it as first. No, we are not unfair.

No we are NOT being unfair. ME3 was far from perfect PLUS the ending was horrible.

Quoted from a similar thread:

Apologize to them? Why? Because we're criticizing on how unpolished and rushed the game was? The amount of bugs in the game? The "finale" which concludes all your choices chosen in the whole trilogy, but instead we get to choose 3 colors of the explosion? The quick Photoshop of Tali's portrait? The removed content which became a paid DLC? Ignore all these problems and don't care that I wasted $100 on such a promising game?

Uh-huh, right.

Oh! ....and I STILL can't import my Shepards face.

One can read it however they like, I'm not saying you have to agree with the way that I saw it. I'm not religious but the allusions with ressurection and suggestion that in the synthesis ending he could transcend his mortal form makes a pretty strong case in my eyes.

I ask all malcontents regarding the ending sequence this question: Was it easy for you to make the final choice about the future of the galaxy?

I'll give you one better. I honestly don't remember which one I picked - left or right. I could swear I turned left, cause that was the blue one, but then it turned out it's red on the left. So now I'm puzzled if I went left or went for blue. I remember bits of the outro but they're inconclusive. I do know I didn't pick the "best" one, synthesis, because I wasn't interested in playing dr Mengele. But otherwise, the choices were so bland, so repulsive and so downright uninspired I just picked one at random and hoped the story is gonna start making sense again.

Though the fan movement has gone some way to acknowledging this already, we all need to make sure BioWare recognise that 99.99% of their series is absolutely phenomenal. The Mass Effect series is without a doubt the best I've ever played, and I'm thankful for three amazing games. I'm sure the only reason I feel let down over the ending (along with many others) is because it's not quite as fantastic as the games before it. If it were the ending to a lesser series, we wouldn't be so critical. But because BioWare have created such an excellent franchise, we've become emotionally attached to the characters. It's a shame they couldn't finish it better, but still, the rest was just indescribably awesome.

The problem with the ending is that it invalidates and literally throws out everything you've done/experienced in the past 3 games. In ME 2, and ME3 it goes to great pains to allow you to import a Shepard with all your "decisions" intact. If you hadn't played either before, both titles provide you a vehicle to make these "decisions." I know I, as well as my friends, sat with the game waiting for us to make these "choices" not knowing how it would turn out, how would the rachni queen living change the galaxy? How would peace with the Geth or a rejuvenated Krogan?

Instead of some kind of "payoff" for these decisions, you get your choice of blue, red or green along with an absurd cutscene of the Normandy (somehow flying despite red and green choices likely annihilating the craft/giving it some abhorrent proto vagina) crashing with some of the squadmates who were likely with you in the last mission walking out onto The Savage Land, and all ME relays blowing up.

--snip--

I respectfully disagree.

I felt there were a lot of payoffs to importing my game.  If you saved the Wrex, he was there...  And you got an awesome mission/questline with him.  I felt that way with a lot of other missions too.  There was a payoff...  Just not at the end.

Oh, man, oh, man!!  I really want to play ME3 again!  I just can't face that end!!!  <-- yes, now I am whining!

"Downright terrible" is handing your test to the teacher, thinking you did a pretty good job on it, and then the teacher molests you.

Now the ending is being used in a "being molested" analogy?

My god, I thought being used in a "raped your mother" or "killing your children" analogy was the most absurd one I'd ever hear, but wow I was wrong.

No, I wasn't comparing the ending to molestation, person who can't see context, I was explaining the idea of difference between something "disappointing" and something that's "downright terrible".

Wait, what? In the owner-section there are few who consider the game totally worthless, it's just that people can't them bringselves through another playthrough. That's different then considering it worthless.. in the non-owners sections though....

The blue pill on the left and red on the right. I'm sorry that you found them to be uninspired. I found them to be postmodern in the way the problem was addressed. You can either try to control them, destroy them, or synthesize life. Anything else would not address the core issue of orgnaic versus synthetic wars. But that's how I feel and I'm not saying you're wrong. I just didn't find them to be as egregious as you did. Oh, and I remember my ending and it took me about 10 minutes to decide. I had that WTF moment you allude too but I didn't say F this I'm just gonna pick a random outcome so that it will hopefully make sense. I ended up killing synthetics because ultimately I spent three games trying to perserve the many different organic civilzations.

Absolutely agree. It is not uplifting at all, and I'll admit that during the credits I couldn't believe what had happened. But I don't hate it. i accept it for what it is. Shepard always had a dark cloud over his head throughout the series and I actually, upon reflection, like the ending more and more. It's defintely a bummer but there is hope when his squadmates (if you can get them to survive) get out of the normandy after is crashes, and even more hope in the little boy talking to the old man post-credits.

Eh, I didn't derive hope from either of those. In fact, the little boy and the old man is what really crushed my hope. The first time I played through I did synthesis and I didn't notice the second moon and just assumed that Joker had crashed in some undeveloped part of Earth. So I was like "OK, they'll get picked up, I can deal with that". I was saddened however, that none of my non-human crew will see their homeworlds again. Then the stargazer scene came and my first thought was 'welp, all the aliens in the area died, no more sci-fi universe, damn'.

Redid the ending, chose destroy, realized the Normandy had crashed on an alien worlds, and was like "well, they're kind of screwed, aren't they?" And again, same issue with the stargazer scene.

In the end, all we can do is agree to disagree. I'm glad you got more enjoyment out of it than I did, which is why I push for a DLC. I can get an ending that satisfies me, you can keep the ending that satisfies you, and everybody wins.

Its nice that some fans are more forgiving and its not wrong at all.

I only express hate towards the ending because its the only way i can send the message out there that what they did was not acceptable. I can no longer vote with my money because they already had it when i pre-ordered. If i could, i would get a refund and not have to think about Mass Effect again. Unfortunately i am in this whether i like it or not, and i am now invested in exposing the corporate bs that is corrupting the integrity of great games.

If I created your favorite meal, it was utter perfection, Then I dropped a deuce on top. Would you just eat around it? Would you say "Well at least you made a delicious meal without the dung, so I am so grateful." Or would would you more likely say "What is wrong with you? Why would you do a thing like that?"

sooooo stanley, a question for you then. You do not want us to be unfair and abusive...I completely 100% agree.

but what do you think of the situation? Seriously what do you think of the pre release interviews about the endings and what we actually got?

and while we are at it what about the promise to be able to achieve the best ending playing just the single player game (and if you ask Bjorn he will tell you that no, you can't without either playing MP or buying the iphone app)

should we not call the devs on this? should we not feel bad when the issues are being (partially) ignored, dismissed or looked down upon?

Yes, as an absurdist point for the purposes of black humor. By which I mean dark humor, as it seems you might be the type to think I mean "african american" or something.

We paid for a full game and didn't get it.

We were told we didn't have to touch any outside resource to get the 100% complete ending or whatever (I'm not calling it the happy ending, none of them are happy).

We were told our choices were going to matter in the end, which they did not.

Quit sucking up to them, they aren't going to give you anything other than a pat on the back.

I'm sure everyone would be alot nicer if bioware did the following

1) Never have lied to their fanbase about the ending.

2) If they ended up lying to their fanbase then they should come out and say "we're sorry"

3) When the SHTF they dealt with the problem directly instead of PR spinning everything trying to avoid the issue

4) Didn't break their universe and the physics behind it.

I agree some people are being unfair but to think they deserve to be loved for this is foolish. They angered thousands of people then expect to say a few vague things and everything will be ok. They deserve just about every ounce of anger that's getting thrown at them.

Personal attacks though aren't acceptable.

THey created something big, really big. On that we fully agree and thank them for all those great moments with had playing the three games.

But many of us think that the current ending is unfair to the whole Mass Effect trilogy. We would like to see the trilogy remain true to itself.

I don't think so - I suppose it's down to your personal values but I think the Bioware's deceptive PR inexcusable. For the same reason I'm not going to vote for the Libdems either until every last one of their MPs has resigned - because they have demostrated that they'll say anything to get sales, and then do whatever they like
