Well...I bet I'll be hated for saying this...but I'll say it. I wish there was an option to opt-out of exposure to this content. If people want these romance options...fine, their choice. I'm in no way denying them to go this route. But personally, I'd like to have an option to turn off same sex advances. I'm not a fan of it.
I'm with you, on all fronts.
Fair point to both of you. But let me ask you some follow-ups.
Do you find the blood and gore offensive? Would you like to be able to turn off the blood?
What about Liara/Traynor advances? For that matter, what about ManShep/Liara love scenes, since Liara is out-of-species entirely?
I propose a thought experiment. Imagine you are approached by a gay man at a bar. How do you respond? I would say that I'm flattered but that I'm straight (and also married). There is no way to "turn-off" the possibility that such an encounter would happen in the real world, so how would you react?
GEARS OF ****ING WAR has an op-out of blood and gore. GEARS OF WAR. If people want to op-out of it in ME3, why not?
That's different. You're taking a real life experience and comparing it to video games. I can't avoid that situation IRL because I'd have to answer the guy. If people want to op-out of homosexual content in ME3, why not?
I propose a question to you.
I want incectual relationships in ME3. People who engage in that feel like they're soul mates and are meant for each other. Why can't I have that in Mass Effect 3? We've already opended up a can of worms in this thread, but not another one?
The point I'm making here is that you seem very upset about an optional gay romance that is quite harmless, but seem fine with blowing Cerberus agents to bits in slow motion. The blowing people to bits is inescapable as the game is designed now, and is, i think we can agree, more destructive to the enemy characters involved. The romance options are just that--optional. It takes multiple dialog points in different settings at different times to initiate them. They are, by design, optional. To opt out requires not special setting, you simply ignore them.
The second point is that I imagine in the real world, you would handle such an encounter maturely. Water off a duck's back. Yet in a video game, it seems to really disturb you.
