JTP117 - Maybe you've got me worked up.
Maybe I'm hearing things.
I've heard something I've never heard before in ME1.
When you're waking up after the beacon, you go through some conversation points with Kaiden. After you thank him or whatever, you slide off the table, and Chakwas talks about rapid eye movement and abnormal brain activity associated with dreaming. You have an option here and usually what you say is something like, "It was more like a vision. Of death. Destruction." (Paraphrasing.)
During that part, as Shepard talks...
I heard something that I had never heard before.
And I'm not saying this is what it was, but to my ears, it sounded a whole lot like "Assuming."
I've heard what you're talking about. It's like a murmer after he says "I saw..." right?
Yup, right there. It's really quiet right there. There's another part about two seconds later in the same sentence, right as Shepard gets to the end I think, where it's even louder.
Also, again, not sure if relavent: Right before ME3 came out, I got an update for ME1. I swear I have never heard this sound before and I've played this game through a dozen times.
Could be going crazy just wanting to desperately find evidence.
I reloaded just to hear it again. Sounded more like a murmur. But still sounded a lot like the word "Assuming". I'm going to be listening for more SFX like this throughout the other games...
Because if what I heard was right, Shepard's been slowly indoctrinated over the correct period of time (possibly).
I definitely have no idea what you guys are talking about here. However, I am interested. Care to elaborate?

You're not crazy, I've been hearing that since I first got the game in 2008. I just assumed it was shepard remembering the vision, or thinking about it or something like that

He's talking about a sceen fro ME1 after shep awakens from being knocked out by a beacon. If you listen, as he's talking you can hear a reaper-like murmur, I just assumed it was shepard thinking about the vision he saw

Interesting...is there anyone who can isolate sound files and can confirm this? I also thought it was interesting that when the rachni queen talks about the reaper influence, she describes "oily shadows," as well.
Several people have tried but they seem unable to isolate those specific voices

I HAS IT.
Right here. Sorry for the long walkthrough video, but at least the guy doesn't talk through it. Start listening REALLY closely around 6:15 in, it's right after he chooses "More like a nightmare" dialogue option.
Edit: Thinking about it? Possibly. But he mentions having the vision to Anderson and doesn't hear the sound again.

Also we can probably find these voice files somewhere in the game files. If we can, then we can get some closure about all the things the oily images are saying.

Thanks to Showes13 and others for putting up the dream sequences. Did you romance Thane in ME2 Showes? If you did, or anyone who romanced Thane, does he say that "Protector" line anywhere else in this game or in ME2? I romanced Garrus on my femshep.

I've asked several people to try, unfortunately it seems to be creating more nay-sayers than progress. People don't seem to find them and then simply claim them to be imagined. The only working solution I have found is to explore in-game.

I doubt they thought that far ahead to start integrating the signs in ME1...

People just got off my tv, so I'm gonna continue my playthrough and hopefully get to Tuchanka asap.

I happens for the uppermost option as well. I personally don't think it's Shepard indoctrinated (it doesn't make sense how he would be that early in the game), more-so a residual effect the beacon had on Shepard. But then again, I'm very skeptical on what I allow in to IT in my mind.

And why couldn't they have thought that far ahead? They said they new where the series was going. We don't know. Not saying they DID, just saying... well, we don't know. Maybe they did.
Note: I'm neither for nor against indoc theory. Until April comes around - really, until that "clarification" comes out - I'm not for or against anything. However, I do like to hope. I won't nay-say it, but when I find evidence that really strikes me, I post it.
Edit: I'm not saying he's indoctrinated that early on either. However, if that is the remnant of the word assuming, think about it... a bit of the word.. a bit of indoctrination... creeping into Shepard's head...
Just a thought.

I agree with you, but it's still interesting. I still think it's just a vocalization of Shepard remembering the vision

Could they not be with the rest of the dialogue and in the passive audio files?

I've never heard that before, and even replayed ME1 (after an update apparently) where you can HEAR it. I think this is new.

It's an echo distorted version of what the comander has just said. So when he says "I saw..." The whispers is also saying I saw, but distorted and than the rest of it is regular creepy whispers. I've paly at least 4 palythroughs in the past year so I know about he whispering

It's not new, I heard it waaay back in 2008

As for the voices: I heard somebody else saying they heard whispers. So I'm listening in my 2nd playthrough. I haven't heard anything.
I'm sorry but I just don't think this big mysterious secret exists. BioWare has put it all out there, it just doesn't make sense.

I know I hear something that sounds like "assoo" but thats it. Could just be random noises to add to the atmosphere.
Or you guys could be onto something.
