The ending animation changes slightly depending on how much galactic readiness you gathered... nothing major like Hudson promised (surprise...), So don't expect anything big. Also you can get quite a few galactic readiness via doing multiplayer so your choices doesn't really matter as promised previously, again by Casey Hudson (surprise...), only your readiness.

The website which BioWare bought (IGNorance) for themselves buy putting Chobot into the game had a description about the "different" endings. Tho the so called "epilogue" (rofl) is the same in all playthrough.

ME2 had quit a lot ending depending on how you upgraded your ship, did your loyalty mission to your companion, who put you in charge of leading a grp, etc. Tho the major ending was I don't know, maybe 2 or 3? But because of so many variables it was always a fun to play the game again, not like ME3.

Imo shame on BioWare...

Well it's quite common to say the game has many endings when most of them are only slight variations TW2 claimed the same thing.

I am reading the IGN chart, and I only count 8 variations:

Edit: This is the link to the "spoiler-free" chart, but there's also a link to the all-spoils chart there

You might have better luck in the ME3 forums. They're alot more responsive and alot of them tend to have most important info favorited.

Mass Effect 3 General Discussion (No ME3 Spoilers allowed)

:?

I haven't finished the game myself, and thus don't want spoilers. I shouldn't have to go to a spoiler forum just to ask for someone to provide some sort of source for a "fact" I keep seeing thrown around like gospel. I've seen a number of people say that Casey Hudson said it (including you), but none of them can actually provide a source.

Techincally as stated by others in this thread ME2 has three hard ending, that can have variance on them through loyalty, upgrades, etc.  Just like ME3 could have "3" hard endings with variants on them on War Assests you aquired.

You only need war assets (readiness) which you can get a lot via multiplayer. So your choices (lore wise) doesn't really matter if you like multiplayer stuff. Which is - again - a shame.

it does have 16 endings if you count very slight variances to them, cant really say more here as its non spoiler area

That's like saying Mass Effect 2 had a dozen diffrent endings for every squadmate that can potentially die.

This.  Exactly.  If I forgot to buy ship armor or whatever and Jack dies... or I send Thane thru the ducts... that doesn't count as a different ending.  It counts as me being lazy and since I'm a fan I'm going to make sure to get that Achievement any way where everyone lives for the next game so what's the difference?

I've been asking where that 16 figure came from for weeks. Give it up, OP. It's an urban legend. There's no Bio source.

Only beat it once so far but did it before touching multuplayer (silly me) and I can see where the lines for the voice actors would change if I had 50% compared to say 75% or 100%... but if you call that a different ending... please.

I like to think that if things continue on where the game is now...

Each current choice has five endings, which adds up to 15. Then there's a wild card for 16!

I'd say there are 6 distinct endings to ME2.
- Everybody lives, base is destroyed.
- Everybody lives, base is kept.
- Some people die, base is destroyed.
- Some people die, base is kept.
- Shepard dies, base is destroyed.
- Shepard dies, base is kept.

I have no idea where people are getting this "16 endings" idea in ME3 from.

I believe there are 6...

Three variants on Destroy (Reapers are destroyed and Shepard dies, Reapers are destroyed and Shepard lives, everything is destroyed)

Two variants on Control (Reapers are controlled, Reapers are controlled and much of Earth is destroyed)

Synergy (no variants).

Best I could find was an IGN wiki/guide. Which... doesn't really constitute a "BioWare promise." So I'd like to know too.

Also yeah, 3 endings for ME2.

Shepard lives, keep base.
Shepard lives, destroy base.
Shepard dies. You can keep/destroy, sure, but since it isn't imported it seems more like an alternative game over than another two options.

I was just about to ask what happens in ME3 if Shepard died in ME2,because i recall one of the notes on the ME2 loading screen saying something like 'import your save into ME3,if you survive...........'

I think it may depend on what you mean by "choices mattering".  As it is all through out the series you would end up in the same basic places despite your choices.  The differences came down to what characters were involved and some other basic variations.  For instance if Wrex died on Virmire then you deal with his brother later on... either way you still get to the same place.  Bioware has always gone to lengths to make each game an entry point so they had to make a way to develop your readiness if you hadn't played the first two.  That said some of your choices do add different things to the war resources.  In any case it seems ME 1 had 3 endings, ME 2 had three endings with some slight variations and ME 3 has 3 endings with some slight variations...

I've asked this same question in another thread and I have seen the 16 ending thing thrown around before but no one has posted a link to where someone gives the exact quote

IGN used to have 16 different ending variations on there.  They only cut it down recently, probably due to everyone pointing it out.

Exactly.

They're 16 variations in all 3 choices, no 16 different endings.

The number 16 had to have been mentioned somewhere though. 16 variations, 16 endings, 16 *something*. A tweet? An interview? A post? A magazine article?

I see this number thrown about a lot, but I haven't been able to actually find a source that stated that there would be 16 different endings in ME3. Can someone provide me a source to that claim?

On a related note, how many endings do you consider ME2 to have?

From the same place that the Reaper Win ending came from?

I have the official strategy guide that I picked up the night I picked up ME3. In it, it states there are 16 different endings. However as we all know there aren't 16 different endings at all.

The "16 endings" thing is a myth. I have no idea how it started, but it's taken on a life of its own. It's perpetuated because, regardless of its veracity, it helps certain people beat the "Bioware lied! SUE THEM FOR FALSE ADVERTISING!" drum.

If you count up the assorted variations on the three main endings based on EMS score, plus outliers and wild cards such as having an extremely low EMS score, you might be able to get to 16. But I doubt that phrase was ever uttered by a person in Bioware's employ.
