Tali, with Ashley/Kaidan, is the only one who can die in two games while she is a active part of your squad.
Lose some EMS with Wrex or Mordin's death isn't the same.

So your basically upset, that you can't murder all your Squadis as soon as you leave Mars.

The Reapers are like fluffy Unicorns, compared to some of the BSN users.

I'm scared.

Sacrifice is part of these games. Like 90% of the Mass Effect characters can die.
Why Liara is not part of them while she is a squadmate in the 3 games ? I wanted to see what happens with each death but also she was the only squadmate i wanted to kill since 5 years. Like Udina or the Turian councelor. In the other hand i cannot kill Mordin or Wrex, they are great characters and i have to watch this on youtube.

Thessia is the only world which 'falls' according to the codex and is completely overrun by reapers. other worlds like Earth and Palaven get hit hard sure, but they don't get wrecked like Thessia did.
Besides by that point Liara had no serious impact on the plot since just before/around the genophage cure whereas Garrus and Tali have many conversations and heart-to-hearts in the interim.

Also, other than Tali, Liara is the most timid (save for LOTSB) and gentlest so I think it's natural she takes it the hardest!

Well I love Liara and other characters had good runs too so meh to the haters.

I'm not really sure if anyone pointed this out, but this needs to be stated:

Liara, unlike the rest of your squad, is not military. She, unlike the rest of your squad, is the least accustomed to loss and intense situations. So, while it's very difficult for everyone else to lose their homeworld (or come close to), it strikes closer to the heart for Liara who hasn't been hardened like Shepard and Co.

Shepard, VS and James get their scenes where they complain that they can't stay behind to fight. They are trained soldiers. Shepard has nightmares about a kid(who nobody gives a ****). All three are trained soldiers who still get hit by fall of Earth.

Garrus knows his homeworld is holding and that you are trying to get help from Krogan. Plus, he have scenes where he complaisn about his family. Is a trained soldier, who took part in all 3 missions you have (Saren, Suicide Mission, ME3)

Tali either commits suicide or gains her homeworld back. Not much to complain about for her part...

Liara? Learns that her entire civilization is build on a lie an then sees it destroyed. Is not a trained soldier. Has a complete breakdown.

There people are her friends, of course they are going to be worried about her.

And then gets back to work after single pep-talk. She takes it hard but pushes the grief back to do her job, like a soldier. So why is this allowed to everyone else except Liara?

Also, if she didn't have that break down I would consider is major Out-Of-Character moment. I mean, this is a (by her race standards) barely adult girl who has serious hero worship towards Shepard.

Liara is socially inept. I don't state that as a criticism of her; it's established fact.

She went to graduate school to get a doctorate, which is a classic social ineptitude trope itself. Before meeting Shepard, she spent decades studying the ruins of the Protheans, usually entirely by herself, with nobody around to talk to. She hadn't talked to her mother in many years before Noveria. Her comments in elevators on the Citadel make it clear she's simply not used to being around many people. And the way she expresses interest in Shepard? She clearly has no or very little experience with that sort of thing, and comes off as a bit obsessive.

Then in the second game, we see her and we find out that she's changed careers; she's now an information broker. She's cold and can barely talk to Shepard, apparently incapable of understanding that even though it's been two years for her, to Shepard its as if the Normandy blew up yesterday. This is extremely frustrating if you got together with her in the first game; I come back to life, you kiss me once, and then want me to hack terminals for you? What the hell? We later find out that she became an information broker mainly to find Shepard's dead body and prevent the Shadow Broker from getting it, which is greatly appreciated but also kind of obsessive. And if you play LoTSB, she finally breaks down and and admits she just couldn't find a way to emotionally deal with your return and becomes a big blubbering mess, but only if Shepard is really insistent on asking her "What the hell is wrong with you?"

I'll skip pointing out every instance of Liara's ineptitude in the third game, because we've all just played it. She's less inept in this game, simply because she's around other people more than she has in all of her 109 previous years, and most of the people she's around are people she already knows.

But yeah. I think if she wasn't a hot blue alien space babe, people would remember that social ineptitude is one of Liara's main character traits. If she were an overweight human wearing thick glasses, people would pick up on it right away rather than constantly label her a "writer's pet."

This thread is a full degree worthy Course on hatin'

Yeah, seems like Liaras main problem is that she isn't Quarian or Human and instead born in to race everyone seem to have just because.

Very good points!
I still think, however, that she is a writer's pet, at least comparetively with other characters, especially the VS. I think that's where the frustration of the "haters" (a strong word, too strong IMO) comes from. Some of us don't particularly care for her character, the same way we may not have cared for Tali, Garrus, the VS, etc. But Liara gets shoved down our throats no matter what. There are several points in the game in which the storyline assumes your Shep likes Liara. Now granted, that also applies to Garrus, who is also a favourite. But I don't think it's ever been done to such an extent.

As for Thessia, yes, I can understand why she has a breakdown. Yes, it fits her character. But as somebody already pointed out, Shepard is also CLEARLY upset. I don't know, I would have thought that the crew could also be concerned to see the unstoppable and fearless Shepard break down. Other than Garrus.

Because we are a Talimancer we are a annoying virgin brat of 12 years old ? Im 25 and have a wife, in ME Tali is cute and Liara annoying, that's my statement for these two characters. Think that doesnt mean you cant argue about serious stuff like the endings.

For me at least, it's not like we want to kill off squadmates, but everyone else has a death scene, potentially two except for Liara. Originally, Kai Leng was supposed to kill one of your squadmates on Thessia, right? Something like a Virmire situation. I think it was a good idea. Kai Leng is more of a legitimate enemy rather than a troll. Liara has a potential death scene. It adds more to the defeat of Shepard and it also makes it feel as awful as everyone seems to be acting after Thessia.

Why take it out? It seems like a perfectly good idea.

Why take it out?  It's Virmire 2.0!
Getting attacked by Wrex and being forced to kill him, was pure epicness. <<<
Not everyone is playing a Paragon. Paragon is emotional lala-land
Play a Renegade, you will be glad that someone is staying alive.

This pretty much hits the nail on the head. I was very thorough with both of my playthroughs of ME3, and I wouldn't say Liara was given considerably more content interaction with Shepard than anyone else.

That said, I'm not sure why anyone feels the need to turn anything into a rivalry between character love. Each character, be they prominent or mere sidenotes, are well developed personalities within the Mass Effect universe. It doesn't have to be one or the other, you can just admire a character for themselves, rather than constantly comparing characters to say so-and-so is better. It's particularly silly when you realize that the compared characters are not even remotely similar, and that there is no basis for comparison to begin with.

Both Tali and Liara are awesome individuals.

No. Some of us genuinely dislike her.
