And Nooneyouknow13 makes a really good point about the essence "shrines". The Fade is a pretty long sequence that you otherwise get nothing out of. Most players want/need some goodies as they progress. Since loot is out of the question, stat boosts are a good alternative. And hell, I like then, much more than the fanciest gear, because I prefer for my character to grow stronger, not my equipment.

Yes, as a mage you get 4 points of willpower and a whopping 2 points of magic.......Dasim4 wrote...
I was frustrated on my mage that so many of the fonts gave strength or dexterity. I seem to remember only getting a handful that were applicable to my mage.
And I agree with most posters, the armor is so ugly I wont wear it. Its even uglier on female chars since you dont have boobies anymore while wearing it. I usually stick it on Sten, who is standing in my camp most of the game anyways since my first playthrough cuz he is too boring after that.

Having said that: Superior Wade + Henleath Helm for me is a better combination (and it does look so cool!) but I admit that having as free DLC such powerful items cheapens them (like Starfang). They should have make a quest about them, even a short one like a random encounter, and gives them as a boss drops.

Blood Dragon looks like crap. The laser helmet is ridiculous. That's why you should not use it.

Starfang isn't from a free DLC and it does involve a random encounter, so no idea WTF you are talking about there...

Blood Dragon Plate is awesome early on because is a 21.88 armour BP from the start of the game.
As you progress further it becomes less awesome.

Well, the "problem" here is that, essentiall, you can pay to get imba items... that's kinda ridiculous but well, everyone is entitled to play how they want. Personnally, I now destroy all DLC and promo items whenever I start a new game.

Yep, you're right Warden's Keep wasn't free.
What I was trying to say is that it does not asks a lot of effort to gain the best sword in the game!
I'm not against DLC that have good items. I like DLC as Warden's Keep and will purchase Return From Ostagar. My point is that you should deserve those items questing and fighting for them. Starmetal would have been a great boss drop or something like that.
It also cheapens all the Gaxkang storyline where after lots of interesting and hard fights against the Revenenants and Gankax itself, you get a sword that probably is worst than the sword I had with me since level 8-9

My opinion exactly. I did the Shale DLC and didn't feel like I had done anything worthy enough to receive such a powerful helm at the end...

Then you really must despise Ageless and The Key to the City, both of which you essentially get just for walking into Orzammar.

It is certainly more realistic and makes for a better story (in my opinion) than everything that was and will be great is an ancient artifact in some dragons horde. There is even some whining related to similar cliches in the dwarf noble intro.
Now if only they would integrate the items from downloadable content with the dialogue in the main story to make "easy" to acquire top-end items epic in other ways. (I love voice over but sometimes it gets in the way...)

I disagree about the Blood Dragon Armor. I would like to have pre-ordering the game or paying money for something extra equate to something substantial in game. It was marketed as a loyalty incentive and those who participate should be rewarded accordingly. They invest more up front than someone who buys it at discount months after release and IMHO they deserve the extra returns.

I figure the fonts this way: your character, by the time you get to the treaties quests, has decided to become dedicated (including sacrificing life and limb if necessary) to the Grey Warden task of uniting Ferelden against the blight. It's something that's only happened 4 previous times in history (fighting the blights).
Your character is supposed to become a superhero. They don't start out that way, they start out rather pathetically (I didn't even have boots as a dwarf exile because I never found any in the deep roads and so I had duster armor and bare feet when I got out of the deep roads (talk about challenge!)
You don't want your formerly humble character to remain a humble character who is not as strong as your tank, or not as awesome a mage as Morrigan, or not as good a fighter as any of your others. You have to become the leader, the one who can stand when all others would fall. You have to become more than yourself.
Yes, it's a team-oriented game, but where would your team truly be without you? Your char can solo the game, but Wynne can't. Morrigan can't. Alistair can't. Shale might.
But what I'm saying is that there's a certain amount of "becoming a superhero" or an "antihero" involved and getting the stat boosts makes it real. It means you really do have like 10 more spellpower points than the other mages, or you can get to 70 dex or 60 dex and like 60 cunning. None of the other characters can, except maybe the biggest bosses in the game. Most of whom, you have to beat. Some singlehandedly. Like Loghain (who is a killing machine, if you've read stolen throne...)
So those essence fonts don't feel like cheating to me, they feel like my character becoming something more. Besides. While my team-mates tiddlywinked in their own nightmares/dreams... not even realizing they were in one, I was fighting my way through five islands with demon bosses just to free them. At the end, Wynne says "we found each other in this place." Yeah, right Wynne. Sure "we" did. We had nothing to do with it. I found you. I rescued you all. What have I been doing for hours and hours while you dreamed? Nobody even asks. Nobody knows. Thankless job. So yeah, I'll take some stat bonuses along the way for my trouble. Why does that feel overpowered?
If the OP truly doesn't like it, don't do them. Simple. Seems rather silly to me. As for the blood dragon armor, it's not so great as all that in my game. And it is ugly. My tank usually waits for the Warden Commander set because it looks so much nicer. Since I've only ever played a tank or warrior once, I've never wanted it myself. There are so many other armors to choose from for the team, and i usually war a robe as a mage, or light armor as a rogue, so I don't want it. It goes to the gold stash (but not until after certain money-grubbing females are done with). Or it's spent before then. I always do that quest with empty pockets.

afaik, even if you're a mage, what those points mean is that you don't ever have to put a point that you earned into str, because you'll get the extras in the fade and they're enough.
