Because the Citadel had Reaper proof plot armor in ME1.

Yes, armor created by the great Magic Space Wizard himself. :wizard:

Because its a plot hole. And element that obviously looks like it was added at the last seconded.

Maybe because Mac Walters doesn't know what the hell he is doing and just riding on Drew Karpyshyn's coat tails?

When you scrap the original outline things like these are bound to pop up. It's the plot holes that ME3 creates against itself that confuses me.

I'm more forgiving of plot holes between games because changes happen and therefore oversights happen.

I'm pretty sure the Catalyst isn't supposed to do the job for the reapers. Organics are supposed to have a chance to prevent their reaping, after all. Otherwise why have a Crucible to begin with?

I'm pretty sure you're wrong as the object in question that I shall not name for spoilers was never created by the reapers.

That was my original speculation too until I had the exact wording of the endings which debunked it for the most part.

To anyone thinking the OP doesn't know the answer I'm pretty sure he's trying to illustrate a point on how far off base ME has deviated from it's original epicness and became a flash over substance shooter. Also likely OP is trying to illustrate how bad the ending is...

You would think the guy who's apparent sole purpose is to "assure organic life by killing it to avoid AI evolution" would be aware that something was wrong, and that Sovereign had to do all that stuff. And more that the Reapers had to do the collector thing, the arrival thing, rachni stuff etc.

He doesn't seem interested in pursuing that purpose anymore. If he was, he wouldn't tell Shepard anything in the endgame -- he'd just let him wander around confused for a few minutes until the Reapers destroy the Crucible.

Isn't it obvious? the crucible was designed to give organics a fighting chance to change their fate and when it docked with the citadel it awakened the starchild and gave it a new purpose.

and epic SPACE MAGIC powers *nods*

Of course it's well known Shepard is made of 85% Space magic, 10% Tigers blood and 5% Raw nerve.

Thats how he/she's survived so long and can resurrect themself from the dead due to sheer willpower and space science.

The Catalyst was dormant. The signal to the Keepers was meant to have them begin wake up procedures.

Plot Hole.

If you like. I'm too bored to get into that one. I was just pointing out that if you want to make a fuss about this there's no reason to drag ME1 into the argument --- if the ending's inconsistent with ME1 it's inconsistent with itself anyway.

Better question: Why didn't the reapers shut down the relays, then divide and conquer us, like the VI said they would in ME1.

We don't know who created the object. All we know is that the Protheans improved on a design left behind from a race millions of years before the Protheans. Considering that the Star Child is an integral part of the device, it is reasonable to assume that the device was provided by whomever designed the Star Child as a way to defeat the reapers.

What, no.  Vendetta suggests that the Crucible was originally independant of the Catalyst, only adapted to include it by one of the many species to add onto the design.

That's something I brought up a while ago, easily a week after launch.

The Catalyst completely renders what Saren and Sovereign needed to do in ME1 useless: If the Catalyst was there the entire time, why didn't he stop the Protheans from meddling with the Keeper's signal? Hell, why would they need the Keepers to open the Citadel at all?

They wouldn't; the Catalyst could tell when races started poking around the Citadel, which would mean that they had reached the technological level required for harvesting, which would prompt the reaper's arrival. The Keepers would just be around for maintenance. This also means the Reapers wouldn't need to leave a vanguard like Sovereign around in the first place; because the Catalyst can do his job for him.

The entire thing is, to use a nice blunt and primitive word, stupid.

Because the Keepers were tampered with.

It's basic lore.

So why did Starchild let the prothean do it?

Or if Starchild controls the reaper how is he not able to retake control of the keeper. Or the Citadel itself for that matter.

Which explains why an external signal didn't activate it. Why was that necessary in the first place however given that the stargodchildthingy was already there the whole time?

Except this isn't supported by the storyline. At no point is it implied that the Star Child himself had a hand in designing the crucible. All we are told was at some point the Crucible was modified to interact with the Catalyst by the race which originally designed it.
