Of course there is! Dragon Age is another great Bioware game. BUT...

We all know how it's going to be. The game is released, any downloadable content is released, the game gets dusted under the rug, the DLC stops coming. Two or three years down the line we get a completely new engine and a huge new game.

I wonder if there's any point building the next game from the ground up except for an excuse to justify a higher pricetag?

Why not make the sequel to Dragon Age just a huge expansion pack for the original game? If you had to pay the same amount again, and it was just a DLC expansion (with the same size campaign as the original game, however) would this put you off buying DA2?

Well, there is a huge world out there and it's begging to be used. It'd be a shame if it wouldn't, I say. And I think Bioware feels the same.

I read from somewhere though I don't recall 100% that BW will be supporting this game with 2 years worth of DLC. Whether or not they will live up to that statement, if true, looks to be seen.

Expansion packs are probably less than ideal with respect to console versions of the game. Additionally, they carry intrinsic limitations on what you can do, since you're working with an already-completed engine, toolset, scripting framework, etc. So there is more to it than merely wanting to maximize price.

I very much doubt that we'll ever see more than two or three Warden's Keep -sized DLC packages beyond what we already have (WK, SP, RtO). Companies say many things but, really, how often do they deliver on those promises? Perhaps DA:O will be the exception, but remember, we all saw how much post-release support Mass Effect received. Hopefully we get the Fallout 3 treatment except, you know, have it be good this time.

Since this is the fifth time the darkspawn have attacked with a leader, there be two more according to the list of old gods.

As of now, I'm only interested in fullblown expansions of the original campaign or another completely new campaign. DLC for the original campaign doesn't interest me even in the slightest. It's much too soon to even contemplate a sequel for this game. The sequel to Mass Effect is a different story entirely though... *drool*

One thing is for sure: BioWare needs to get their act together and deliver comprehensive statistics in-game for DA 2 (or better yet, already with a possible expansion for DA 1).

Everything I've read and watched from Bioware devs is if it makes them enough of a profit they - might - continue the series. A logical decision, though I find it kind of unfortunate to put so much effort into a universe only to throw it all away if it doesn't make your shareholders happy.

If you hear them talk about Mass Effect or KOTOR they are much more optimistic about the future... which makes me curious if the decision has already been made to not pursue DA any further

Blah, why would I need to see a combat log and all the numbers?

I don't wonder why I never touched the magic classes in Neverwinter Nights, it was the mass of numbers mixed into words making you wonder what the hell stuff did to your character. I'm not a min-maxer so I will never need to see a combat log or that my shield bash does 10 damage +5 for str and level.

Well let me just say two words: Jade Empire, I'd have bought a sequel if there had ever been one. Lets hope that DA dosen't share the same fate.

Why would you go to the expense of having novels written in the series between games, if you weren't going to offer on a new game? The map of the Game area is around 1/5 of the continent, then there is Orlas and Antiva. Look at Neverwinter Nights. So yeah, we can at least expect 2 games. This was where Bethesda screwed up, and I hope Bioware doesn't. Instead of opening up new areas inside an existing map, expand to the neighbouring countries. I would love to be able to explore Highever, and be able to go back to Redcliffe or any other of the areas.

This has me worried... I really hope the DLC sells well. According to an article approx. 15% of console users buy DLC. And VGchartz has DA:O at about 1.5 million copies sold for the two consoles. In a Bioware post they mentioned that 'some' publishers sell the original game cheap and use DLC for long term profit, and I think the poster was referring to DA:O. I have a feeling that DA:O DLC sells at a higher fraction then 15%, which doesn't include the PC sales.

There's also the fact that Bioware takes the time to have high quality writing and voice acting means in DLC, meaning budgets will be stretched as well, while 'fans' beg for quantity over quality.

I still can't wait for the 2 years of DLC. So far they're delievering. I just hope after 2 years there'll at least be another expansion or DA:O 2 !

Meh, we'll see. DAO is a great game and DA has HUGE potential. If that potential will be realized is less up to Bioware, and more up to the shareholders they have to appease - whom i'm sure see much more money in a cash cow MMO like Old Republic, than an old-school single player RPG.

There is a big point. The world is huge and Ferelden is but one small nation in it.

They left us hanging in this game. THEY HAVE TO do it or else the Bioware fanbase--possibly one of the more devoted fanbases in gaming--is going to get mad.

I would welcome a sequel, as long as they approach it the same way as ME2, with the main character being uploaded from previous save games.

Similar to Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age 2 could be a significant revamp to make the game better based on previous content. Also, from a storyline POV, I like the idea of definite end of DA1 and the start of a new fresh plot in DA2.

Then again, who knows how Awakenings will fare? I think this will be a major test for the entire market. Based on the price tag, I would assume this is HUGE and could possibly be a game in and of itself. I suspect not, given how quickly it's coming out but at a 40 dollar price tag on a reused engine and that it's DLC (i.e. not sharing with a store), it needs to be very, very hefty to justify the cost.

One note, given that Bioware probably thinks that not as many people will get the DLC as bought the game, they could be spreading the development cost of the DLC over fewer people. Still...

Ugh. If they make two more sequels with Archdemons as villains, I will not buy them. Been there, done that. Screw that. The only major flaw that DA has is that the antagonists are boring and generic. I loved pretty much everything else in the game. Sure, I wanted to defeat them, but I was far more interested in my party members than I was in the terror that the darkspawn would reek on Ferelden.

Anyways, the game has sold quite well so far, and I doubt that BioWare would create an IP like this without expanding on it. You don't take the time to create a world and your own copyright, just so that you can stop and do nothing with it. No, you want to make more money in the future.

Imo.

New game - should equal new title in a completely new engine.
Sequel - same engine improved with continued storyline.
Expansion - Addons to the base game.
DLC - small Addons.

These days most the above is a blurred line to make extra cash, ironically they would probably profit more from following the above. The good old days of gaming are long gone tho.

Btw, I don't care much for Ferelden anyways. I don't know why some of you really want to see places like Highever. Ferelden had its charms, sure, being a rugged, independent nation - had kind of a Wild West thing going for it. But I don't know how anybody can read up on the lore of places like Tevinter, Antiva or the Qunari lands of Seheron and Par Vollen and think "hey, I'd rather see more of Ferelden instead!"

In comparison to these places, Ferelden is not nearly as exciting.

Well, seeing as there is already an indication in game where a sequel would take place. I think they have it in mind. The only question is whether EA green lights it.

Every gameworld needs a starting place. Ferelden is a good place to start in Theadas.

Just having the other lands mentioned is like a teaser. I'm sure we'll get to the

other lands eventually. I've heard Orlais mentioned for Awakening i.e. Orlais Commander

class.
