it's disrespectful to be so impatient about waiting for all markets to get time to enjoy the game before requesting answers and fixes.

We paid for it so we have a right to say what we feel. They fact that we do shows just how committed to the industry we all are.  We will injoy them when our voice is heard....not before...ever!

Game Devs need to be held at a higher standered, someone needs to keep them in check!

Nah, shooters are NOT popular in Japan.

Nor are our RPGs. So basically, they have got all the reasons in the world not to buy it.

Don't read too much in numbers from Japan

Hell, Skyrim got a 40/40 in THE quintissential japanese games publication, a distinction shared by only a dozen or so other games (this magazine has been running since the Famicon was the big cheese) and it still sold poorly in Japan.

Famitsu is a joke, no one reads it anymore, the western medias quote them because it's easy to find the ranking...
But seriously the review is like this "yeah it is a beatiful game, filled up with very nice thing, yeah and I like the colors too..."

Are you kidding me? The RPG genre is one of the most popular genres in Japan! Man, if you only knew many many many RPG titles are released every year in Japan, lots of titles we in the west have never ever heard about. Final Fantasy is only one of many.

It's just that Japan likes the strategic kind of RPG. Turn-based combat with lots of strategy is what they prefer. Mass Effect isn't strategic and it leans more towards a shooter than an RPG, that's why games like Mass Effect do not do well in Japan.

No hallowen outfits are "art" in japan! Also inter-dialogue spoken out loud specifically to the viewer ALL the time is also very important to them. Its one of my pet peeves about there games/anime.

They dont have "rolplaying" games. They have "action adventure" games called RPG's for some reason!

I have always been curious if the eastern games I use to love are still being made and just never make it to the US.

When I think of great games from Japan I think of Ogre Battle, Tactics Ogre, Shining Force, Warsong aka Langrisser, and other strategic games where you had a lot of player agency in the story.

You'd think an anime cyborg mind ninja would cater to a broader demographic.

Like people have said, Xbox 360 is not popular in Japan, PS3 version of game was poorly optimized, Western RPG's tend not to sell well in Japan, and maybe they heard about the ending but that is a maybe.

really?  the PS3 version was poorly optimized?  haven't seen, read or heard anything about that.  aside from a handful (5 total hard resets of the system) of freezes, i haven't had any issues myself (purchased launch day).  while i recogize that is not supposed to happen regularly, i'd say 5 resets over the course of 3 weeks is anything but regular (in my mind).  ME2 forced me to reset more often.  is this limited to certain models of the PS3 or just the PS3 in general?  i'm honestly curious about this.

As much as I would love to use this as an excuse to bash the ending I can't. Western games rarely, rarely sell well in Japan. It's been addressed by some Japanese developers/publishers as a problem too. Japanese gamers don't like change or something I guess.

It was either Square Enix or Capcom that said that the Japanese game industry was in danger because the Japanese gamers didn't want anything foreign or something. I can't remember.

2chan crowd may have gotten wind of the upset western gamers.

Same goes for Japanese games in the US. Negative reviews for certain games in Japan may diminish fan anticipation for a game across the Pacific. There was a time when negative fan reaction in Japan would affect a games hype in the west.

What I've learned from this thread is acknowledging cultural differences is apparently racism. Guess I'm gonna gonna have to go burn the chapter in my anthropology textbook on Japan because it's xenophobic.....

They're trying to break into the Japanese market. DA2 and ME3 both have elements designed to appeal to that market audience.

The issue is, some of what appeals somewhere does not appeal in other places...
