No. If you're talking about the final push on Earth, (which is kind of a spoiler btw), Asari have a way of sharing memories with friends that isn't similar to bonding with a significant other.

From what I hear, that section plays out completely different if you romanced her.

But Asari don't reproduce through having physical sex, like most races do.  they reproduce mentally, through a mental and emotional connection with their partner, hence how "dads" can be of any race or species.

This I know.  But my point is that sharing the memories is different than bonding to copy genetic data.

Seriously though...

Even if you don't call it "rape", at the very least it's a massive violation of him and his trust/

"oh, it's a gift" and entirely ignoring the fact that she's getting his kid.

Why are you assuming she's lying? She's mind melded with Shepard before and not gotten pregnant. Even if you don't romance her, she regards Shepard as a close friend. What is it about Liara that makes you think she would violate the trust of some one she cares about in such a way?

Keep in mind you're assuming the Shadow Broker has clean morales.

You're also assuming she was vying to become the Shadow Broker and wanted to become extremely evil.  I think you have to understand her character in the previous two games, especially in the first, to fully understand her intentions.

In her dialogue you can tell she doesn't pride herself for being the Shadow Broker, and says at least she can now find out more information about the protheans and the Crucible.

But by all means, if you prefer to headcannon this as Liara mind****ing the crap out of you instead of just sharing a memory, whatever floats your boat.

Speculation for everyone!:wizard:

Kind of disappointed she didn't say "Embrace eternity". Does anyone say it?

I have to confess, I was disappointed she didn't say it too.

She only says it in the first game.

Hence why it's headcanon, more specifically, my headcanon. ;)

Given the factor of Liara's 'love' or 'obsession' with Shepard, and the fact Shepard could easily not survive the war with the reapers, I totally see Liara taking Shepard's 'essence' to impregnante herself.

It's not really cheating in my mind, given how Asari physiology works, it'd be more like a sperm donation or something.

Like I said, it's my headcanon.

But I do think it was intended to 'hint' that Liara's 'gift' was indeed Liara telling Shepard that she always loved them, hence explaining why we never actually SEE any memories, and the weird look on Shepard's face after the event (Also Liara's unwillingness to talk after it). I just think it'd be sweet.

Can accept this as your headcanon

However, it doesn't work in my game. Shep & Liara are friends. And I hope she respects it ...

(Seriously: no blue babies for my Shep in ME4. He's a honest guy, stayed loyal to Ash in all three games, it would feel bad if he cheated on her without knowing in the end ...)

Actually, no genetic material is contributed. Asari reproduction "doesn't work that way." The way it's described the mental connection is there to trigger more of a "budding" type reproduction system and they use the mate's genetic pattern as a randomizer of sorts - they don't actually combine genetic material like we do to make offspring. So, though your genetic pattern would have an influence on the outcome, you actually have no directly traceable genetic material to whine about.

Wait. Why are we even really discussing this? It's silly....

What is wrong with that? Shepard gets a child and his legacy lives on. The reason people desire sex is because our DNA demands we reproduce. He is just doing what nature wanted him to do without his concent.

Well... It's seems to be a definite plot point, but I have no idea what it affects... - that just seems made for a flag of some sort.

That was the first thing that popped into my head after that scene. It really does make sense in so many ways.

i also think it would make a great background story for the offspring. If Liara wasn't your LI the child would grow up bitter and hating humanity for being shunned by her father. Not to mention Ashley and Miranda(i know they say she is unable to) could both be preggos by shep as well. So there could be issues with their offspring as well.

i think it would be very cool if mass effect 4 was either an offspring of Shep and LI where possible or with Shep and Liara.

I also think it would be cool if you romanced Ashley that both had children and they knew about each other. Conflict anyone.

I would like you defending it if someone stole your sperm/egg cells without you knowing and used them to make a child without your consent. Nature doesn't "want" anything. And what's the point of sentiency if we just live by our primal needs?

Way I played it is that Shep knows Liara has a thing for him, but to him she is like a sister. I took that sharing at face value since they've done it before in ME1. Liara is not malicious and if she expected we could all die why would she get herself pregnant.

I'd be fine with that, also its sperm. Hell It would be awesome if I could spread my DNA a million times :D. They just better damn well not expect me to pay child support and if I am dead then who cares. My DNA > all of yours. Why, because it wants me to think so!

Primal needs attract people to one another. Love is a primal need that leads into reproduction. Primal needs make us do what we NEED to do to ensure the survival of our genes and race. If everyone ignored their primal needs we wouldn't eat, sleep, or reproduce. Humanity would end in 100 years.

Sentient is the ability to do more than the primal needs. It is = (Primal needs + Social needs + personal desires + IDKWTF(Planking <_<;;))
