Hey BSN. If you can solve this then you are really good at this stuff. Not that I possess the skills to actually be authorized to say anything like that,  but really, I have tried A LOT.

What's my problem then? Well this is how it goes: I start the game as usual, suffer through these intro clips about BW and EA (Seen them a few times by now...), and finally I click once in the "press any key" screen. So far, so good. Now here's the tricky part.

When I reach the main menu, everthing shows, and there is no freeze whatsoever. Because I wouldn't call it freeze, it's more of a lockup. I can see the main menu, frames are running (meaning that the graphical part of the menu is working), but I can't click anything. Menu choices aren't clickable, nothing is. I am then forced to end the task via task manager. What sucks a 100 times more, is that the ME2 process keeps running, and I can't terminate it. Sometimes when I try, nothing simply happens, it stays in the list. Sometimes I get an error message telling me "Access denied" when I try to terminate it. So each time I want to make a new attempt to start the game, I am forced to restart my computer to get rid of the ME2 process. That gets pretty annoying after the 5th time, and after the 55th time it's UNBEARABLE...

I will tell you some stuff about my game. It's a legit copy, and I first ran it on Steam. Then it stopped working, and I contacted EA chat support. After two long days with at least 5 different support guys, we got the game working. But not by solving the issue, which remains unknown. The last support guy simply transfered my games (ME1 as well) to my Origin account instead. Then it worked again.

But peace is not the natural order of things... Now the error has returned, on my ME2 on Origin.

I will mention all the things that I remember I tried:

- I reinstalled the game 3 times when I had the issue on steam. None of those made any difference.

- I reinstalled it once on my Origin account, no difference.

- I removed all DLCs, no difference.

- I backed my entired Mass effect 2 folder (in documents, where the saves are) up, thus removing saves and the profile file. Only difference, is that since the game now opens "for the first time", there's a popup telling me to login/create an EA account. I press OK, but the game instead locks on "Please wait". If I press Cancel, same ****.

- I used TuneUp to clean the registry, CCleaner to clean up everything that program is able to clean up... No difference.

- I reinstalled Origin, thinking it had something to do with my account. No difference.

- I emptied my %temp% folder, no difference.

- In Steam, I tried to use the "repair" function, with no difference.

- In Origin that option does not appear when I right click ME2.

- Currently I have ME2 on Origin, and that's where I'd like to solve this. The current lock screen is the "Please wait" one, because I removed the entire save folder.

I might have forgotten some stuff as I'm writing, but if you just point any of that out I will probably remember it. How the f*ck am I supposed to get this thing working? No matter what I do, the game locks up like that. I wanted to make a full replay of all the games, in time to a ME3 conclusion DLC... :(

Please help me, anyone! I would be sooo thankful!

As there is a lot to keep in mind, it would be awesome if someone could help me via skype. That way it's easier to describe stuff, instead of talking via slow forum posts. Skype is: gn444m

Thanks in advance!

System specs.
Operating System:     Windows 7 64 bit
CPU:     Intel® Core™2 Quad  CPU   Q8200  @ 2.33GHz

Doesn't really matter since it has worked fine before, more system heavy games too. Thought I might add it anyway though.

Right in this moment I am attempting a system restore. Also tried that before with no success, but will try again cause I'm desperate.

The screen I get is completely normal, it just locks up like that. As Im in the middle of system restore, I can't take a screenshot right now, but I will describe.

First screen I got was simply the main menu as it usually looks, it's even moving (not frozen), can move my cursor, but nothing is clickable. Now when I erased the Mass Effect 2 folder in Documents, where the saves are, I get another screen. After "Press any key" I enter the Main menu, but instantly a popup appears, prompting me to login/create an EA account. I can actually click both OK and Cancel, but both of them results in a kind of loading screen that says "Please wait..."

This one is visually frozen, cause it's just an image, but sound is still there, so no complete freeze there either. The screen looks like this: A dark blue space background, with the EA logo in the middle, and "Please wait" in the bottom right.

Have you tried using the configuration options to lower the graphics quality and other settings before launching?

It shows the EA logo in the middle of a mass relay then starts the next sceen saying im not connected to the cerberus network. Then after about 30 seconds it lets me click ok and the game continues.

I just loaded it again and I think your issue is when its trying to connect to the cerby network screen. For the lulz - turn off your internet and then try to launch it. Im gonna google your issue and see if others are having this problem.

edit: dunno if this helps social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/106/index/1141461/1

I feel like such a jerk right now. I forgot to mention that I tried unplugging my internet before, with no difference. Guess what happened when I tried that now? It worked. Then I turned my internet on and tried again. It didn't work.

That is SO ************** STRANGE! Because why would that work now while it didn't before? Oh and thx for googling, but I have done that 10000 times. It seems to be rare, and when I found something like it, they didn't solve it. Or I found someone with a close, but not the same problem.

Anyways, I'm just happy it works. You know what sucks though? MY SAVE FILES I THOUGHT I BACKED UP AREN'T THERE. That just sucks, I could jump a bridge or eat a baby right now.

Thx anyway, I am such a crybaby for bringing this up yet solving it by sheer luck in an hour. Sorry for wasting your time and forum space.

It's your firewall. If it hasn't been configured to either allow or block ME2, then the game will sit there in limbo, waiting for authorization to access the internet (even if you don't have it set to automatically login). You need to configure the game in your firewall rules.

Thing is this didn't work before. I turned my firewall off, yet nothing happened. Perhaps I should've opened a few ports as well. No matter the case though, it's a huge design fault that it just locks like that. One would assume that your firewall would pop up saying "accept this connection", but nothing like it ever appeared.

I know, but the exact same thing happened to me before. Precisely the same situation as in your first post. Once I configured ME2 to have access, it worked fine.
