(although I don't think the specific reason was to wipe out the quarians, but the fact they were helping the geth succeed with dominating over organics, even helping them war with organics in the first game as well, really makes the whole "solution" sound... well, you know...)

Wait, I feel conflicted now, I prefer playing paragon so I can save hostages.... but that hostage is the current ME3 ending? I don't know... ummm....

Except that the Quarians were trapped in the system by the Reaper controlled Geth and would've eventually been wiped out. So this is accurate. The Reapers were using synthetics to wipe out organics without preserving them so synthetics won't wipe out organics before they can preserve them.
