I see I see.

Awesome. lol.

Oh it's not like they could have, you know, established that in the actual story.

Hey guys I have one teensy tiny problem with your theory of people escaping.

It is fine if Shepard didn't get to participate in the Citadel's fall, but I would like to have seen a sequence of it happening at least. It would have been highly emotional seeing as the Citadel was considered a safe haven.

Well...Shepard some how escaped seeing as that thing wasn't too far from him. Most likely some people that weren't fighting got away from earth to get to the citadel. So it's possible...just most likely majority are dead as dead can be.

@ Privatr16

The conduit was a one way relay FROM Ilos TO Citadel and didn't work the other way around as Vigil says in me when he explains the protheon plan to change the citadel's signal, it was a one way trip for the scientists, they couldn't and didn't return to Ilos.

Of course a lot of what happened in ME1 is invalidated by the ending so... maybe the conduit magically changed direction too in which case nevermind... though I'd rather Bailey did the rescuing... I really can't stand Conrad Verner.

Yup..... WHY DID I SPEND SO MUCH TIME ON SIDE QUESTS!?

Wouldn't be the first time BioWare's pulled something like this. Just look at Taris in KoTOR. That pissed me off a lot.

I think it was actually a good move by BioWare having everyone on the Citadel die though. When Earth, Palavan, Thessia etc are being destroyed by the Reapers it's hard to care too much about them because you don't really know those places very well or anyone who lives there. With the Citadel though you've spent a lot of time there for all three games and you actually get to meet and talk to the characters who live and work there. That means when they are all killed it's a much greater emotional impact then seeing some planet you've never been to or hardly spent time there being destroyed.

Yes but ... Earth, Palaven and Thessia we *witnessed* getting ravaged. I think that's important. We were there, we saw all the horrible things going on, we got a sense of consequence. The Citadel massacre, on the other hand, was just thrown out there.

"Oh, yes, the Citadel, well, they're all dead."

It would have been a lot differnt and more meaningful if we got to actually see it happening.

Hey it's art man, it's deep!

Bioware doesn't have to explain stuff to you, if you were smart you would just get it like I do, and man let me tall you, it's so deeeeeeeeeepppp.

I thought the twitter source, in the cryptic bioware sense, said most people died except a few that escaped before the reapers closed the arms?

If that's the case, its happy guessing time on who those survivors were. Maybe Bioware left that unspecified for a reason so people can headcanon-save their favourite people from the citadel.
Personally, if I'd pick 5 people to save it would be Bailey, Aethyta, at least one of the councillors and of course Conrad and his girlfriend.

If its not the case, and every single soul on the citadel perished...well, bummer. Another part of the ME3 ending that sucked.

And then the Citadel crashes into Earth, causing an amount of destruction that puts the meteor that killed the dinosaurs to shame.

Everyone on the Citadel dying is just another kick to the gut after you're already down on the ground.

It's not comparable to Taris in KotOR at all. You were on Taris for a fraction of the start of the game, compared to a significant amount of time in all 3 ME games (and it was the only hub in ME3). The destruction of Taris also served as the call to action for your character -- it provided motivation to get revenge. In ME3 it's just there to depress you further.

You just don't understand, it's just so Bittersweet and deeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrppppppp......... ok I can't firken actauly do that.

Honestly I think that Bioware has no idea what bittersweet is. Hell they would probably think that bittersweet is someone lighting your dog on fire as they kick you in the nuts.

Besides in Taris you were just doing quests to make money and further your own agenda.
Sure you got to know some characters, but that made it's destruction work.

The difference with the Citadel is that YOU ARE BLATANTLY MISLED.
You do quest after quest to bolster the Citadel Defence Force, get people ready, let more refugees in etc. etc. for what? Absolutely nothing because they all die.

Once again I will point out the facts. In my game Dr. Conrad Verner successfully activated the conduit from the citadel and helped the majority of the civilians escape to Illos thanks to the brave defense of the Citadel Defense Forces.

Prove me wrong.

Yes. This is exactly what happened.

To everything else, I am plugging my ears and screaming "LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU".

Then I acknowledge that Cmdr Baily was the hero of the citadel in you playthrough during the Reaper attack. Either way most of the civilians were saved.

Wait for the Evacuate the Citadel DLC. Take on the role of Dr. Conrad Verner as he teams up with Commander Bailey and Aria T'Loak to rescue the citizens of the Citadel from the Reapers!

Yes; they are dead, and the Citadel Defense Force you set up doesn't even get a token mention, let alone make a difference.
