I use it for things I easily forget or consider mundane, such as enabling Dueling, drinking potions when I can or casting spells every damn turn.

Setting up morrigan to force field any character that gets below 25% health has saved my party many many times. And I do have tactics set up for all my party members, but i usually catch myself ordering them to do what they are supposed to do before the tactics fire :P

I may think about using Tactics during my second time through the game but I have no interest in using them this time.

I think tactics is great. I can focus doing what I do on my PC (dw warrior) while the other 3 do their thing. plus you really have to be using your dw warrior most of the time to enjoy it- and I cant stand the thought of having to switch between all your characters in each battle.

I turned that crap off the moment I started playing. Don't disable them entirely with the option on the bottom left of the menu though. If you disable each tactic bar (or put nothing in them), it'll keep auto-targetting and auto-attacking on for your characters. For example, if you completely disable tactics, your party member or your character will just stand there waiting for you to do something. If you disable each tactic individually, they will still have an AI script to auto target the nearest enemy to attack.

Manual is the way to be.

My point is that you can setup tactics for all of your party members, including NPCs. And that is controlling them just like WOW bots. And many have said that a lot of junk encounters can be handled this way. So what's the difference? A percentage difference in the amount of the game that can be automated? That's not the point.

If I play a game I play it becasue I want to experience all of it. Not to see how fast I can get through it.

It isn't a chore to shortcut. It's not an exercise in AI programming. I did that in college.

I prefer self-set challenges of figuring out how to get through an encounter unscathed, or without anyone going unconscious, or without using any potions, etc. That's fun for me. Not programming an expert system.

Here's the deal, and where your logic apparently fails to a large degree....

WoW was not written to be played with bots. It's a workaround for scum who profit off selling WoW gold. WoW is also a one character game. So if you use a bot to control your
character you can walk away from the game and make a sandwich.Bots are a hack of the game. DA:O was *written to be played with tactics. The game is sold with tactical options you may use or not use as you see fit. Apprently you feel you are some "superior" gamer because you choose not to take full advantage of all game features. You enjoy playing that way. Cool. But people who use tactics are simply playing the game to its full potential.  There is nothing wrong with that and absolutely nothing superior about the way you play.

Yes I use it a lot as default, I don't use the friendly fire abilities in tactics though - but my lone make is mainly a debuffer anyway (I think people probably underestimate how powerful debuffing is).

I have Wynne set up to be a healer and it works fairly well, although this may also be caused by the fact that I don't really need a healer on Normal. For Alistair and Leliana I have some tactics, but I'm almost never happy with how it plays out. I think the idea of programming your allies to handle themselves while you concentrate on controlling your main is great, but I find that I cannot even get them to do the simplest things, let alone any of the (actually not so) complex stuff I make them do when I control them. I wish there was just a "notify me" option. Instead of using an ability/item when a certain condition is met, the game would auto-pause, center on the event/character and display a little overhead message. That way when an interesting situation occurs that I wasn't aware of, I can make a decision that is probably better then the one response you can put into the tactics slot now (for instance, maybe if there is only one enemy left with a little health, I don't need to drink that mana potion).

The fact of the matter is that the tactics really are crummy. They can't even be set up globally, only locally for each character. Thus there is no way to tell a character not to apply a health poltice when another character is healing them. Tactics at most may be good in emergency situations, but they will waste resources.

I'm not hurt at all. I just thought you were sounding like the same kind of elitist WoW moron who refuses to download even the most basic add ons like Omen and then ****es at the tank for losing aggro. :)

And I do think you're being illogical. Using tactics is nothing like using bots to farm in WoW. Period. I've played both games. Tactics are written into the packaged program of DA:O. The gameplay is designed with it in mind. If you don't enjoy using it, that's totally fine. But you are making it sound like you are a superior gamer because you enjoy playing differently than others and I think that's silly. *Shrug.

I am better than you, and don't you forget it. Geeze, anyone who would use tactics must be a completely lazy moron. ;)

I wouldnt play this game without the combat tactics.
It would be way too tedious to control every single NPC actions.
I rather just focus on my own guy and let the npc do their thing.

Wish the combat tactics were more sophisticated though.
I like to have smart party members use their abilities correctly and I can sit back and watch it evolve and not have to pause so much.

That what makes it fun for me.
