I always thought it was an easter egg. Same with the Prothean Pyramid you find in ME 2 that gives you the show vision that you saw multiple times in ME 1.

Stop thinking about ME1/2. I mean who even remember those games? ME3 is the best place to start.

ME1's was just a short story that attempted to show you that the Protheans had been to Earth in the distant past.

ME2's was just a souvenir.

Believe it or not, sometimes you have big plans for something, and then at the end of the day, it doesn't quite work out.

The entire Mass Effect series is riddled with plot lines that were discarded or let drop off in the finished product of all three games.  It's what happens when you don't establish a long term narrative structure over the series.

No, no, no.
The device would be held by BOTH partners, non-gender dependent.
As the partners held on, the longer they held, the more inflamed the armor became so afterward, people would be seen "smoking,.."

It's a plot item used to awaken leviathan and supply it with power. Maybe even an item used in future dlc missions.

I'll be damned if I turn out to be right.

Would've been neat if it helped you understand the Crucible/Reapers/GlowBoy/TIM/The answer to everything/something!

But no, if it's not in ME3, it doesn't really matter all that much.

Prothean Spheres were used for data storage. In ME1, Shepard found one on Eletania (sp?) which showed him a cave man the Protheans were observing. Who knows how it wound up on Eletania? In ME2 during the mission to recover the M44 Firewalker, a second is found. When Shepard touched it, it bulk transmitted it's data. Shepard seemed to be unique in the ability to activate these things. The third was found on Gei Henna (sp?) thanks to a refugee. There is no info on any transmission from that one.

Sha'ira (the Consort) gave Shep an amulet thingy  when he/she completed a quest for her, which allows him/her to activate the one on Eletania. I can only assume the same thingy is used on the one you find during the FIrewalker mission. I'm not convinced that the 3 of these missions are in any way related.

Yeah...but you could recover the space hamster from ME2 in ME3.  Space hamster!  Along with fish and spaceship models.  Why not the prothean probe that throbbed uselessly?

I think one of those bastard Alliance engineers on the Normandy refitting team probably knicked it.  Seeing as how it throbbed so uselessly and all....
