I'm more concerned about the fictional universe than I am with Shepard.
Yeah I always figured Shepard would sacrifice himself/herself to stop the reapers. I am fine with that. I wonder what is going to happen to the galaxy now with the relays gone.
Next series of games will probably be set centuries in the future when contact is reestablished between the now isolated worlds. During that time I'm sure that many of the species will have changed considerably and many old friends may now be enemies and such.

Possibly, interesting thing is that Liara, Grunt, and even EDI could be in those games.

The ME "Universe" is far to awesome to be left at 3 games.
Well it was, until the Star Child let you pick the color of the explosion that destroyed it.
I disagree with the OP. Assuming they fix the ending so that the galaxy isn't fornicated and all life isn't transformed into machine hybrids, I would love to see more Mass Effect games. I don't want any damn prequels, though - fix the ME3 endings to save the galaxy, then put more games there afterwards.

Off the top of my head the only thing I can think of that can take the place of the reapers, is something like the Yuuzhan vong.
They are basically like Star Wars reapers. Here is the thing there does not have to be some big apocolyptic threat to drive and make the games interesting. Don't get me wrong I loved the reaper threat and I loved how the reaper threat drove the trilogy but the in game universe offers many interesting possibilities. Take the Yahg for instance.

Nothing should take the place of the reapers. Let Commander Shepard save the galaxy, and let the damn galaxy stay saved for a good long while. There are plenty of other things that would make for much more engaging stories. I thought Lair of the Shadow Broker was great, and it didn't feature a single threat to all life everywhere.
I think a Bond-type story featuring a Spectre would be really cool, especially if you could play as any of the Council races. There are lots of things you can do without threatening galactic annihilation, and after the crap ending to ME3, I think we should take "galactic dark age" off of the table in terms of potential outcomes of any Mass Effect story for the foreseable future.

I really don't think this is practical. Based on your choice of colored magic, the galaxy is a very different place at the start of such a sequel.
In one game, there are no synthetics, period, and much of the old technology is destroyed along with it.
In another, everything is more or less the same, except the relays are destroyed and the Reapers are doing something (I assume) under Shepard's control.
In a third, EVERY FORM OF LIFE IN THE GALAXY IS A SYNTHETIC-BIOLOGICAL HYBRID CREATURE. Whatever that means.
They'd have to pick one ending as canonical and go with that, regardless of what you actually picked. Your choices matter!

Unfortunately for your argument, I do. I'd love any game set in the Mass Effect universe so long as it isn't an MMO. I was offered a free year of SWTOR and I still said no.

so your theory is that because all synthetics were destroyed in 2186, no synthetics can possibly exist in the year let's say 2694? Unless the crucible is constantly checking back to make sure no synthetics exist...and eventually based off of records of relay use and the studies conducted on them between each species discovering them (2157 for humans for instance), the mass relays could be rebuilt. It would just take a super long time. Alternatively if they went with the Shepard controls reapers business then he could have the mass relays rebuilt. There are ways to get around things such as this. In the Synthetic-biological hybrid ending, eventually a situation could happen where they evolve past that and regular organic life as it was in 2183 is returned to the galactic stage.
