He'd probably freak if he found out how much information his browser gives every website he visits :D

Do you people really browse without Firefox + AdBlock + NoScript + cookies off by default?  Wow!

That's the browser equivalent of a tin foil hat. ^_^

(I'm glad to see you can make fun of yourself. The people here who accuse you of being paranoid are the ones that companies love the most.)

Are you using the Windows operating system to post in this forum? Is so, you agreed to the mother of all EULAs. I think if you extend your paranoia and reject all of the EULAs you come across (with or without reading them), you'll soon find that you're sitting in a dark room with a candle. As long as the candle company doesn't have an EULA.

Moving cars can hurt you when they make contact. Someone is reluctant to step into a street with moving cars.

According to your logic above, you would go up to the person and tell them:

"Quit your paranoia. If you extend your paranoia about moving cars, and reject crossing every street  with moving cars that you come across, then you will soon find you're sitting in the grass at the side of the road with a walking stick in your hand. As long as the walking stick doesn't contain a toy car hidden in a secret compartment.

Therefore, sir, get over your paranoia and step out into the street with moving cars. Right now."

(Harbinger, I'm partly jesting with this post, and mean you no ill will. It's just that this kind of argument is a very common logical fallacy."

No, I'm using Linux.

Then my comment is directed at everyone but you.

And if you got Dragon Age working on Linux without a Windows OS in sight, then I salute you sir!  Image IPB

I don't tend to be in the habit of accepting unilateral changes to contracts. I'm also the guy that calls my credit card company to reject changes to terms too.

Let me know how that's coming along since basically they are the mafia and can change anything they want anytime they want and you have little recourse.  It's not like you can just not pay them back and everything will be alright.

No, but you can refuse the new terms and continue to use your card until its expiration date under the old terms, at which point your account is closed from further purchases and closed completely once you have paid your debt.  I did that just last week when my fixed 8.9% APR jumped up to a 19.9% variable APR even though I was in good standing and hadn't made any late payments, gone over the credit limit, etc.  Fortunately, my card is valid until 8/12, so I'll have the new consumer protection laws that go into effect this winter when I shop for a new card.

As far as I'm concerned, the original poster accepted the EULA when he purchased the game.  As long as he doesn't download any updates, he should be allowed to continue playing the game with the same rights and features under those terms, nevermind what EA/BioWare do to the EULA.  Period.

Yeah, but you are stuck at that new higher interest rate.  It isn't retrocative when the laws that they put in place go into effect.  I had the same situation with what they said wa sa locked in low rate years ago but they basically just tore up that agreement and wrote out a new one, which BTW is legal in their industry.  The sad fact is that those laws ended up punishing those of us that paid our bills and did the right thing.  Now we all get lumped into the barrel with the losers that spent beyond their menas or did it on purpose onyl to declare bankruptcy for the 5th or 6th time. Actually, no, although it has been reported as being possible using an emulator.

I just use Linux for web browsing, because that's what's on this Notebook I'm using. But your original point is valid - most people do browse from Windows.

But if anyone refuses to cross streets because of their perception of the danger of cars, then they will forever remain on that grass.  What seems to have happened is that people say, "Yes, I understand that cars can hurt me, and this particular car may indeed hit me, whether or not it's planning on it, and whether or not I've chosen to look both ways to gain some knowledge of whether the car is planning to hit me."  We choose to get over all of that and get out onto the street.   As you can see, I'm pro-street crossing.

Thanks !.

Do we need to append open source licence conditions in case someone else copies it from me and tries to make money out of it ?

But if anyone refuses to sign EULA's because of their perception of the nefarious intentions of software companies, then they will forever remain in that dark room. What seems to have happened is that people say, "Yes, I understand that EULA's can hurt my rights, and this particular EULA may indeed have some shady implications, whether or not EA is planning on it, and whether or not I've chosen to scrutinize the text of the EULA to gain some knowledge of whether EA has mal intent."  We choose to get over all of that, and sign the EULA. As you can see, I'm pro-EULA signing.

I agree with you 100% percent.  That's exactly how I would have said it.

Unfortunately, by 'finding and replacing' my post you have violated my End User Reader Agreement, which you explicity agreed to by reading it.  You'll be hearing from my lawyer shortly.

Apparently, I couldn't be arsed to read the thing though.

It isn't.

It's valuable information.

Many games do this, FYI.

Moreover, at least in my country, any good lawyer can beat any contract's clause that goes against the Carta Magna of the country and/or it may be considered a leonine clause!

If you want to use the game online with any of EA/Bioware services (patches, registration, DLC, etc) you have to accept the EULA.

Well, as far as I can tell.

Sounding very very fishy to me.

I'm losing respect for this game. Everything is DLC.

Buy this game, you get this DLC. Sign up for this, you get this DLC. Do this, do that, you get DLC bla bla bla. This game will be so ridiculous in the near future when you can get 20 items that are significantly stronger than those you find in the game by simply signing up for tons of different things.

Why would they? It's EA's EULA.
