So, I haven't patched my game yet. Firstly, I find the difficulty manageable right now, with some hard (but fun) battles. So I'm afraid that the patches will make things even easier. However, there are some bug fixes, right? So... What should I do?

Also, I don't really know how to patch my game. I'm using steam, so how do I patch DA if I want to?

Doesn't Steam automatically apply patches?

yea, steam automatically patch your games no matter what. You've probably already playing with the patch on already lol.

I always apply patches if they aren't automatic (steam). I'd rather have things working right and worry about difficulty later. I can always turn it up a notch if I find combat too easy (this from an Easy difficulty player - combat isn't my primary source of fun in this game).

Sorry, forgot about this thread.

No, it's still on version 1.0. I checked the patch notes. There's nothing about the new patches on it.

Get the dex hotfix. I know there are people that think it makes the game harder and want to wait for the official patch, but they said themselves that if you play on hard or nightmare the hotfix essentially IS the patch.

This hotfix applies to all creatures in the game, not just the party members.
Due to enemies outnumbering the party in most situations, the benefits
of better ranged weapons act asymmetric in favor of enemy groups.
\\\\Installing this hotfix will cause a steep increase in difficulty
by almost a full level for any encounters that include multiple
archers. If you are having trouble with easy or normal difficulty, stay
away from this hotfix until we have updated it to offset these effects.

The plan for the final patch is to not address this issue for Hard and
Nightmare difficulty, causing an increase in game difficulty on both
settings.

Patches fix problems; that's always a good thing. It's the patches that are not full ones, like when they tack a letter onto the patch number instead of a full upgrade, that you need to worry about. Since more than likely those tend to be bugged in themselves, that you would later have to uninstall anyways once they do release a full updated version.

I didn't think the patch fixed any bugs really. From what I recall they fiddled around with difficulties making easy and normal settings easier. Fixed some issues with gfx cards and the character creator. Didn't see anything at all in the patch notes that would improve the game for me so I haven't bothered with it.

I've heard some complaints about the rebalancing of bows. Specifically that longbows are now useless and shortbows own all. What do you think?

Considering that every last magic bow worth a damn is a long bow I don't buy it. Particularly if you are planning on getting lethality and upping your character's cunning. In the early game before I picked up lethality, yeah, shortbows were better, but since their strength modifier is lower their cunning modifier after lethality is lower as well.

Advice: If you are playing the game unpatched on normal and you find it perfect. With the new patch, set your difficulty to Hard at least. Yes, the patch makes a lot of difference.
