If this is true, and I'm not saying I'm 100% convinced yet, it would be the most brilliant thing in game writing history.  Not only was Bioware intoxicating your main character, but my first overwhelming urge after completing the game was to get intoxicated IRL.  Bioware's intoxication theme was so subtle, powerful, and subliminal that it influenced their players to go along with the intoxication.

Exactly; Bioware's subtle manipulations go well beyond the spectrum of storytelling. It's an immersive experience, where you share the feelings and experiences of the character. This will redefine storytelling in video games for years to come!

I can't even play ME3 sober anymore.

And Shepard had that Ryncol on the Citadel and probably bought that Ryncol on Tuchanka. Then there were those "Mystery Drinks" on Illium. And in that Bar on the Normandy... you know that drink that fizzed and glowed? And didn't Chakwas say that Shepard could drink a Krogan under the table?

Alas like I said. After I saw the ending I wanted to drink, but I can't do that anymore.

I just got pretty drunk (IRL). The endings seem to make sense now. Thank you Intoxication Theory!
Now I need to use the loo...

My God... How could I not see it? It all makes sense now...

None of it ever happened...

Wait... what if Shepard is actually SO wasted that we're all in a dream as a part of his/her sub-conscience? The reason we're playing ME is because the game series is a representation of Shepard's will, each title representing bigger threats than the last, (representing that Shepard's losing the ongoing battle, against alcoholism...) leading to, of course, A SUB-CONSCIENCE BATTLE AGAINST THE DEMON ITSELF, ADDICTION! (as represented by starchild...)

It's the INCEPTITOXINATION THEORY!

No brah. The Reapers represent alcohol's effect on Shepard's liver. War ravaged earth Represents the onset of full blown cirrhosis. The child is the son Shepard left at soccer practice 12 years ago; which haunts Shepard in his drunken stupor. The child's death symbolizes Shepard's failure as a father, and his ghostly apparition form represents Shepard's subconscious realization the boy (now being grown up) is forever lost to Shepard. That he makes Shepard commit suicide, regardless of any choice, is representative of Shepard's guilt and self-loathing for being a crap father.

I'm going to need some help here with this one. So the three choices are how we deal with our addiction

Control means we deny that we have a problem, because we are in control of our drinking habits and we know our limit.

Fuze means that we want to continue to be drunk 24/7

Destroy means to quit cold turkey

...I...at first it seemed impossible. But then I realized no more impossible than the idea that BioWare might have made a bad ending for real. After so much brilliance? No, they are definitely stirring something up on purpose...a martini?

This is a mind-bending case of life imitates art imitates life imitates art where:
1. Art -- player is introduced to Shep in ME1 and as mentioned earlier, just bounces from bar to bar at the beginning, laying the groundwork that will weave throughout the rest of the series.
2. Life -- players make up RL drinking games to play while playing ME -- PLAYERS CREATE DRINKING GAMES TO PLAY IN LIFE **WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY** PLAYING A GAME BIOWARE CREATED SECRETLY ABOUT THE ILLUSORY LIFE OF A DRUNKEN SPACE CAPTAIN!!! ...layers upon layers...
3. Art -- Shepard's intoxication becomes complete at the end of ME3 where things that don't make sober sense are thrown at the player, causing them to question their own perception of reality and if they really saw what they really just saw
4. Life -- because the player is not drunk during the ending, it infuriates them, driving them to DRINK. Suddenly it doesn't seem so bad anymore. Thinks start to make sense. Maybe the ending is the real after all...

It's so subtle yet ingenious. Like meta-meta-meta storytelling. I'm not surprised people don't see it at first, but when the evidence is laid out, it all becomes undeniable. Even Jessica Merizan hasn't denied it! Why not? Hmm? Because it's true. All we need is a youtube video, and it'll be case closed.

I can hardly wait for the Detox DLC announcement at PAX so I can shout "I told you so!"

Hahahaha! Yes! This is exactly what the end choice represents. Except destroy still results in a liver ravaged by years of alcohol abuse. And if you choose control or synthisis you are destroyed because you fail to ever quit, which is StarChild's (aka addiction) true motives.

Delirium Tremens usually includes extremely intense feelings of "impending doom". Severe anxiety and feelings of imminent death are symptomatic of DT.

shazam, guys! I just had some revelations.

How many of us have ever lost track of how many drinks we've had after drinking a bit too much? The infinite ammo pistol at the end symbolizes this! Shepard, now fully intoxicated, has lost any sense of how many "shots" he has taken. It's so obvious in hindsight, I could faceplam.

Also, the reason the ending doesn't make sense until you are drunk IRL is because you are finally seeing it from Shepard's true perspective--intoxication.

...man, I need a meta drinking game for my next play through where every time there's foreshadowing for the now overwhelmingly convincing Intox. Theory I take a swig...

Who can come up with rules for the "Mass Effect Drinking Game?"

Every time Shepard says, "I should go." take a sip of beer. (if it was a shot, you'd die)
Every time Shepard punches someone, take a shot.

So... this is the reason Keith David looks heavily drunk in every interview about Mass Effect?
He's trying to give us clues!
