...I...at first it seemed impossible. But then I realized no more impossible than the idea that BioWare might have made a bad ending for real. After so much brilliance? No, they are definitely stirring something up on purpose...a martini?
This is a mind-bending case of life imitates art imitates life imitates art where:
1. Art -- player is introduced to Shep in ME1 and as mentioned earlier, just bounces from bar to bar at the beginning, laying the groundwork that will weave throughout the rest of the series.
2. Life -- players make up RL drinking games to play while playing ME -- PLAYERS CREATE DRINKING GAMES TO PLAY IN LIFE **WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY** PLAYING A GAME BIOWARE CREATED SECRETLY ABOUT THE ILLUSORY LIFE OF A DRUNKEN SPACE CAPTAIN!!! ...layers upon layers...
3. Art -- Shepard's
intoxication becomes complete at the end of ME3 where things that don't make sober sense are thrown at the player, causing them to question their own perception of reality and if they really saw what they really just saw
4. Life -- because the player is not drunk during the ending, it infuriates them, driving them to DRINK. Suddenly it doesn't seem so bad anymore. Thinks start to make sense. Maybe the ending is the real after all...
It's so subtle yet ingenious. Like meta-meta-meta storytelling. I'm not surprised people don't see it at first, but when the evidence is laid out, it all becomes undeniable. Even Jessica Merizan hasn't denied it! Why not? Hmm? Because it's true. All we need is a youtube video, and it'll be case closed.
I can hardly wait for the Detox DLC announcement at PAX so I can shout "I told you so!"
