Initially that scene really bothered me, then I thought back to the myriad of stupid things I've said in the heat of the moment. The follow-up letter made up for it anyway.

And that game had a better ending than ME3

New ME3 ending idea:

Admiral Hackett: We did it, Anderson - the Reapers are routed and the Citadel destroyed!
Admiral Anderson: But at what cost, Admiral? Where is the Normandy and her crew?

[Destroy ending; as the Citadel sinks into the atmosphere and explodes, the Normandy flies free of the explosion]

Admiral Hackett: Kaidan - You made it! 
Kaidan Alenko: We couldn't let you start the victory party without us, Admiral. 
Admiral Hackett: I'm sending an honor guard to escort you in. You'll be getting a hero's welcome when we get home!

[On forest-world that the Normandy does not crash into]

Admiral Hackett: You have defeated Harbinger, destroyed the Citadel, and broken the spirit of the Reapers. For this, I am proud to present you each with the Medal of Valor, the highest honor the Alliance can bestow.

That is Ashley on any other playthrough I didn't romance her in. Kaiden atleast seems sorry.for ****ing you out on Horizon, she just finds more ways to justify herself.

Um...Kaidan also comments that his father has been reported MIA. Garrus is constantly talking about his family, Tali has a major dialogue about how she's still shrugging off the effects of her father, Traynor talks about being worried for her family, Joker comments about how his dad's been reported killed, and he has no clue what's happened to his sister.

EVERYONE on the Normandy talks about their families, it's a war.

Garrus is a prime example of a character who suffers from too much exposure. He doesn't even have anything interesting to say anymore. What? Garrus' arc was really basic in Me1... it didn't take off till Me2

I agree. Garrus did quite some developing over ME2.

On Topic: Kaidan is the calmer one and way more reasonable. Ash is more like

Despite that, she's xenophobe and even passes out drunk on duty! Nope, thank you.

I never liked Ashley much and as a hetero female, dumped her sad butt off on Vir each game. Never played a male Shep. Then Kaidan was just kind of Ick for the rest of MA1. Just never did it for me.
Then on Horizon...I wanted a **** off dick-weed option in the dialogue wheel. I love Garrus, adored my boy Grunt- both much more interesting than mistrustful Kaidan. Whose ass I had to save a SECOND time in m3.
Overall, Liara is shoved at me way too often, talk about a weeper.
I went with Garrus in one game, haven't taken that Shep into 3 and now probably never will.

Soooo... I always go for Thane, options being what they for hetero females in the game. Wish I could have had more Thane and more options.

Oh well.

I just do not understand people who think Ashley's trust issues are unreasonable.

I mean, she thinks Cerberus might have implanted a control chip in your brain. Miranda specifically mentions on multiple occasions that she wanted to do exactly that and only the Illusive Man's irrational urge to perfectly recreate Shepard 'as is' prevented her.

Cerberus is far more infamous for their sleeper agents, mad scientists, and infiltrators than they are assault troops, and they've been known to have multiple projects going 'rogue' in some manner that is almost always detrimental to those outside the organization.

You spent two years off the radar on a Cerberus operating table in a secret lab being run by one of the Illusive Man's top control freak agents, and Cerberus is later revealed to be heavily studying indoctrination.

A few trust issues are natural. It's like if Captain America disappeared for two years, then showed up as a cyborg working for Al Qaeda. Whatever his justifications, you're gonna give him some funny looks.

To be honest though, Kaidan's distrust isn't completely baseless. Or did nobody wonder how RenegadeShep has red glowing eyes with 3 dots like the Illusive Man (from which we know it's an effect of Indoctrination, only that he has them in blue)? And I'm not saying this in support of the IT, just as something to think about. Kaidan questions Shep about whether or not TIM maybe did implant Shep with Reaper tech in ME2. Who's to say that's all wrong?
