Why would you do that to Mordin's voice?

I guess if you really didn't interact with Mordin a whole lot or have him in your party for the majority of ME2 you probably couldn't tell the difference. But for me it was like night and day still his replacement did an admirable job.

Nah. I ****ing loved Mordin in ME2. One of my favorite characters. I couldn't tell AT ALL he was recasted. the only difference i saw was that the new guy delivered his lines a bit more slower, but I didn't really think much of it.

 Regardless great pickup.

He sounds almost the same to me.

I can't believe people think this.

I can't believe that you can't believe that.

I'll just assume I have super awesome hearing powers.

It was just as I expected, his voice was easy enough to imitate since it was mainly computer touch-ups, so all they needed to do was find a good actor who would understand the character. I think Mr. Salyers did an awesome job. People kept telling me that the character was lost, that I'd never look at him as Mordin again, et cetera et cetera... But he was Mordin the moment I met him and all the way till the end. I must be a horrible person for this, but what can I do.

I fell in love with the character, not the voice actor. William Salyers does a good job to be perfectly honest, and the scenes with Mordin in the game were among my absolute favorites (also the most emotional ones).

This.

When I played my friend's copy of ME3, I definitely noticed that Mordin's voice was different. It was hard for me to not view him as a slightly different character. The replacement did a fine job, but you can't just change a character's voice without the audience losing the same connection they had to the original. In addition, Beattie's performance was among the best in ME2.

Mordin was one of my favorite characters in ME2 so I was very disapointed that the voice actor didn't come back. The replacement did okay but it did hurt my connection to the character. Especially since the Mordin changed a lot between ME2 and ME3. So having some continuity with the voice actor would have helped a lot. I am guessing that Michael Beatties agent probably really screwed up and thats why he didn't come back, since he made it clear that he wanted to.

If the new VA was weaker I don't think the ***** scene would have been as well received.

I'm assuming the ***** stands for death scene.

Trying to be courteous seeing as the forum says "No ME3 Spoilers allowed". Ah well.

I personally thought the new VA did a great job emulating Mordin's voice. I looked up his creds and he has done other minor voices for ME 2 also. Some of the other voices he did, like Sergeant Haron ("Sorry for the inconvenience sir/ma'am) don't sound much like Mordin, so it could have been a stretch for him to do his voice. Yeah, if you listened closely you could tell it was a different voice actor, but overall he did a convincing job, enough that it doesn't break your suspension of disbelief.

Compare to another media, say the film Iron Man 2 vs. Iron Man, where Don Cheadle looks and sounds absolutely nothing like Terrence Howard.

I was instantly aware of a change in voice actors after hearing Mordin's first line in the game. The two voices are so different that I actually had to stop and make sure it was the same character. I don't present this as a criticism or think it reflects badly on the game, but it did jar me with a bit of cognitive dissonance, since Mordin's distinctive voice acting was so central to his character in ME2.

I have to say that Michael Beattie's stunt double actually did a pretty good job. Little to no complaints from me.

The word on the street is that Beattie's agent simply wanted too much money.

Yea, it was tied up in the MP. Oops, did I say that out loud? Silly me. 'Close, but no cigar' describes how I felt about his voice. That wasn't Mordin. He had his name, but everything else was gone. I'm almost glad that Beattie didn't do his voice. I probably would've, well......gotta remember, no spoilers....... :innocent:

So I just encountered Mordin for the first time in the game and I have to say I've highly dismayed. I'd seen his scenes in the demo of course and I could tell it wasn't Michael Beattie. I'd heard he wasn't returning and I wasn't happy about that. Recasting usuually bugs the crap out of me, but this time I actually wasn't feeling to bad because I thought whoever played him in the demo (sounded like Mark Meer) did a passable job and it didn't sound like it would bother me because it was similar enough to maintain the illusion. But when I first reached that part in the full game, I was putt off by whoever it was that replaced the replecment. He sounds nothing like the origional Mordin, and even seemed to have a weaker command of Mordin's mannersism. I can't really pretend it's him anymore. Even the same lines I heard from before from E-3 seem to have a blatantly inferior delivery in terms of capturing the character of Mordin.

What's the deal here? Why would Bioware do that?  Does anyone else feel the same way?

Yep I feel exactly the same way was really dissapointed with this.
And as you mentioned in the demo I didn't even notice It was a different VA.

I felt it most noticeable when first meeting him on Sur-Kesh, and that threw me for a bit, but once back on the ship I couldn't tell at all that the VA had changed.

Mordin is far from butchered.

I noticed too that it was a different VA, but he did such a superb job following in Beattie's footsteps that I can't be disappointed.

I think the voice was decent, but the difference was noticeable (for the worse).

What annoyed me more however was:
-the continue use of memes, in ME2 it sounded original when Mordin said: ·had to be, someone else might have gotten it wrong". Then in ME3 it is a meme that is all over the place, even shepard says it. I just sounds stupid. Not to talk about how Mordin sings the same song in ME2 while curing the genophage.

This also happens with other characters, like Legion suddenly calling shepard "shepard" instead of "shepard-commander", or speaking like a normal person instead of a robot. I just found that in ME3, a lot of the "funny" dialogue of ME2 was repeated all over the place, it was ridiculous in my opinion.

-the railroad of his character, in ME2 he had problems with the ethical views of his work, but he was proud of it regardless. In ME2 he either kept those regrets (if you convince him to save the cure) or he gets over them (if you convince him to destroy it). In ME3 now he suddenly wants to redeem himself, it only makes sense if you saved the cure. So his character in ME3 only makes sense if you go the paragon way.

This are my main reasons why i dislike Mordin in ME3, to me he isn´t the same, not just because of the voice actor, but because his views are very narrow and he betrays his own people feeding information to the krogan. I think ME3´s mordin is out of character, so if i import again i´ll take Padok Wiks instead, which is a cool character in itself, and let Mordin rest.

I didnt really see a problem with his change in philosophy. It was explained through dialouge well enough, especially if you sabotage the cure. "I MADE A MISTAKE!" Line gets me everytime :(
William Salyers did a damn fine job, and considering hed done work for the salarians in the previous games, it felt like it fit and Im glad Bioware went that route instead of getting some random.  Beattie will of course be missed, but regardless Mordin is still one of my favorite characters of all time. His role in ME3 just solidified that. :P

Yeah it was Mark Meer who done Mordin's voice in the 3rd game, I thought he sounded almost spot on, just ever so slightly slower.

This sums up my feelings nicely. I'm always blown away when people say they don't notice the change. I can't miss it.
