I have played the whole series through multiple times but have never made a single female Shepard... am I missing any major plot elements or great scenes? Anyone else feel the same way?
Why do so many IRL males play a female Shepard?

Reading the story discussion on these forums has surprised me just how many guys refer to their Shepard as "she". In a game all about immersing yourself as the main character it just seems awkward to me to play as the opposite sex, especially given all the romance plots, etc.

Wow, this is like the third thread I've seen with basically the same title.

I don't identify or try to role-play as femshep. I just think femshep has the better voice acting, and it's nice to see a change from the Gears-style space marine grunts.

I have a paragon Shepard, that is male, that I play through first. I have a renegade Femshep. Why? Well, because it's fun to see different options and story available. Also, the voice acting of Femshep is insanely awesome.

Eh, different people like different things. Of course there are theories about how guys who enjoy playing girl characters are either gay or want to be girls themselves. To that I say, if you are confused or insecure enough that playing a female character in a video game is suddenly going to make you crave some man lovin, then absolutely you should stick to exclusively playing male characters. Otherwise, have fun. Play whatever the hell you want.

There really isn't anything else to do on the BSN other than bring up the same old topics over and over again.
Or support the Intoxication Theory.

RPG stands for role playing game. You can play roles other than yourself. In fact, if you're trying to play yourself then you're not role playing. Like acting.
Besides, quality games featuring strong female leads can be few and far between. Variety from the endless wall of interchangable guys can be welcome after a while.

Cause 99% of other games have male protagonists.

To be immersed the main character doesn't have to be your sex. Also doesn't have to be you. I prefer female characters because they are more pleasant to look at. And because I hate the 'male white marine' prototype of hero in most games. If it was like in the witcher and the hero is somewhat 'different' I'd rather play male, but Sheploo is really sort of a turnoff for me. Not my type of hero.

This question has been asked for three decades. I'm sure someone's answered it better in one of those threads than anyone here will. However, I don't try to pretend to be the character(God knows you can't in BW RPGs), it's more like I'm an author trying to write a character. I get immersed in the game in the same manner that I would in a book, just much more powerfully.

Gnah. Hello 12 Year old person.
2 causes for this.
1st - Experience the game from another perspective.
2nd - It's just more pleasant to the eyes if you've got a ladies butt in front of you the whole game than a male one if you're a straight guy.

Jennifer Hale is a fantastic Voice Actor and IMO if you don't play through it with her, then you're not getting your money's worth out of the game. And it's pretty neat to play through the game with a female character, the small changes to certain exchanges make it wothwhile.
Every BW game I own has at least one female hero save.

Sigh, this tired argument is a pretty stupid one to make seeing you can have steamy love scenes with male characters. Its nothing to do with homophobia anyway, it just doesn't feel right is all.

Jennifer Hale.
If the male Shepard had her voice I would play male.. well no, I wouldn't,... but Jennifer Hales' voice is legen... wait for it... dary.

Maybe they just want to play as something other than the generic male hero. Plus, many people like femshep's voice acting better.
The lesbian/staring at ass excuse seems kinda silly to me, but there are those more shallow reasons as well, I guess.
