So in all my previous Mass Effect play throughs I alternated between shredder or tungsten rounds depending on what kind of enemy I was fighting.  I never tried high explosive rounds because the +500% heat generation never sounded worth it.

I was playing on Insanity and decided to try something new...

I used Garrus with a sniper rifle and maxed sniper rifle skill and Wrex with an assault rifle with maxed assault rifle skill.  I put double combat optics on their weapons for the accuracy upgrade (a whopping 42% increase if the accuracy boosts stack) and gave them both high explosive rounds.  Lol, I barely had to kill anything after that.  I could literally just stand near cover with my immunity skill going and just direct them with the D-Pad.  The only times I had to dodge were from charging krogan or during boss fights.

Garrus's sniper rifle was like a damn mako cannon and Wrex's assault rifle burts were discinterating guys left and right.  If weapon overheating affects your companions the same way it affects the player, I couldn't notice.

It's actually pretty funny and I was surprised to see how easy it is to cheese your way through the game.
I had to revive and heal them a lot, but I gave Garrus double health regen armor upgrades and Wrex double shield regen armor upgrades and it seemed to work pretty well since Garrus already had a good amount of shield from his electronics skill and Wrex already had the health and health regen from his fitness and battlemaster skills.

Sounds amusing. Might have to try that someday.

I don't think you even have to put accuracy mods on their weapons because party members don't have accuracy issues... so you could put rail extension 7 or 8 (can't remember which, the one that adds the most damage but highest weapon over heating) haha funny times.

I had them on Tali's shotgun and Garrus' Sniper whilst I used lift or singularity... they go bouncing off walls and sometimes outside the map.

I did this on my infiltrator to unlock both shotguns and assault rifles. Dual rail extension VII's and high explosive X = one shot kills. Activate immunity, run up to bad guy and melt his face without worrying about accuracy. You get the 150 kills super quick ;)

Also, for a laugh: Shoot the ground below them, not the bad guy themself
