Drizzt should never have existed. Dark Elves are Chaotic Evil. Always. This is why I never allow one of my players to play as a Drow. They just always channel Drizzt, and it's not fun.

For most races that isn't true alignments are not set in stone.

Exceptions would be creatures like devils, demons and such.

Also Drow shouldn't be considered chaotic evil, just evil as default.

To be fair, its not like even a small percentage of drow in RAS's continuity are anything but Chaotic Evil, we have mention of 2 out of 20,000 in Mezzoberranzan who are not. And Zaknafien wasn't exactly Good like Drizzt, just not Chaotic Evil. So, .001% or something? I think that's okay.

Second, Ed Greenwood is a pretty poor novelist, but we forgive him since its his world and some of his characters are amazing (Elminster and the Symbul, for example). Spellfire was a hard read but I liked the Cult of the Dragon as represented in it (Salvarad was so cool!) and Crown of Fire was better. I couldn't read the 3rd in the series, it was too awful to finish. Elminster in Hell was fun though! Fast and furious read.

RAS is a great writer, by most objective standards (how many NYT Best Sellers now?), Drizzt/Wulfgar/Regis/Bruenor/Cattie/Guenwyvar are icons in the genre and Artemis, Jarlaxle, Kimmuriel, Cadderly are wonderful too. My favorites will always be The Crystal Shard and Servant of the Shard (never loved spending 3 novels in the Underdark for the DE Trilogy myself).

All that said, they don't need to show up in Dragon Age. Please.

They aren't all chaotic evil, most are but not all - RAS isn't the autority on how it, so just because he only describes two there would be more.

Besides there are other drow that are chaotic good (I think they were probably removed all together with the mindless wipe in D&D 4'th edition).

4th edition sort of killed the Realms as we know it anyway, agreed. All the rules have changed. I just want Kimmuriel to be alive 100 years later, but I hear he is.

Actually, 4th edition added *more* non-evil drow. Read Lady Penitent trilogy, it's pretty good read and it's a leadup to the 4th edition for the drow. They basically broke the Lolth's curse, but it didn't affect every drow on Toril. So there are a lot more of good drow right now, and there's even an academy of magic in Silverymoon with drow at its head.

Jarlaxle and Kimmuriel, both Chaotic Neutral? The Simbul is chaotic neutral too, and pretty much the most powerful character in the realms AFAIK....er..pre 4th edition anyway.

I think Chaotic Neutral seems to have a theme going!

The problem is that it once the concept of a super-special-precious-little-snowflake character who is "unique" and "different" and "rebellious" and therefor "cool" on top of also being crazily powerful draws a certain kind of players like flies to a turd. So everyone wants to play their own rebel-snowflake because that's so ZOMGWTFBBQk3wl. In the end it can be bloody hard to fine characters who actually show some traits you'd expect of their native race/class/culture/faith -- and those that do become the "special" and "unique" ones in a delicious kind of irony.

It's more than understandable if a GM or fellow players say no we don't want your Mary Frickin' Sue ripoff in our campaign.

Jarlaxle is 100% Chaotic Neutral. Hes the type of character that will be just chillin with you and then out of no where he flips a coin to see if he should shove a sword through you. But has to do more with personal gain. I love that character. I also Love how Artemis turned out towards the end of the series once he started getting old. His alignment def started to change then.

This has nothing to do with Dragon Age. I suggest taking it to Off Topic.
