So.

Im in game, silver for fun ( usualy play gold ), Im Quarian Engineer with mattock.

We got Hack task to preform vs geth troops in Giant base.

So I stood on balcony, droping my drone on field to lay covering fire and stop those geth hunters etc. from getting to hacking zone, yeh cool it's fine, noone get's trough, they focus on my turret while im taking them down with mattock and incinerate.

And then I hear :

" You **** **** quarian engineer get your ass to hacking zone".

So,

Was my job made properly, gettin and keeping them off hacking zone, or i should just run into ot and let them come on ur, overrun us and kill.

Leaving one out on overwatch is actually GOOD tactics. Just like the exit tactics (ie don't run to the exfiltration zone like lemmings). You did good.

You could have set up the drones, then went to the hack zone. Keep in mind they can't see what you're doing and the sheer number of people who ignore objectives in this game.

Yeah, they're obnoxious for insulting you over it, but again, think about all the people ignoring objectives. We all lose our patience at some point.

You should go down to the hacking zone, you download quicker wich means more money and less chance of getting overrun, plus on silver its not hard and you will not get overrun. Im pissed when someone stays out of the hacking zone. What you were doing would have been usefull maybe on gold, but really its known that in a hackjob all should be in the zone.

Every time, usualy from what i've seen while playing.

When everyone run into hacking zone it gets overrun by enemies leaving no free space to change cover or so ( as hacking zones are mostly made in tight rooms or so ).

thats why I usualy try to drag em out from that zone getting some attention as they leave my partners alone and they can hack in peace.

I think you made the right call in providing overwatch / suppression. Not many players understand the value of having 1 player do this. I'd take the extra xp over maybe not even 800 credits any day.

I'm pretty sure it was not personal and probably humorous as he referred to you as Quarian Engineer.

Hmmm... download quicker as everyone starts dropping, using medigel that can be useful in later levels and generally getting overrun. I used to follow everyone into the hack zone but the difference in time from 3 to 4 players in the zone is negligable.

Now that said you DO get bonuses having four in the hack zone for having all four in there. Can't remember what they are now though. Just check the log as you enter the zone and it tells you the bonus level iirc.

Yeh sometimes its ok to do what you did, but you should know that when you kill the 1st "wave" of enemies during a hackjob, the next one will spawn and it could be far from the zone, so you got a good 10 secs every "wave". In gold those precious secs should be used to the max with all 4 in the zone.

Well, there was similar thread about someone complaining about a guy like you.
There are basicly two opinions:
1. doing that is a help because you are drawing enemy fire and all attention to yourself, leaving the rest out of the harms way
2. you are just a frager that wants all kills and doesn't want to help the team.

Depending on the situation, it may or may not be help to do that. There are some really crappy places to do the upload/hack that get overrun easy. One of the worst (if not THE WORST) is com center in firebase giant. By the time you see the enemy, they are to close. Geting attention from a banshee or prime in that situation is a great help.

you can't really blame that guy because he didn't know what are you doing.

Probably wasn't personal, esp considering the sheer number of peeps that ignore objectives - esp the hacking zone ones.

I was in a match earlier where I was the only person in the damn zone and when one of the peeps went down I ran out to pick them up and got swarmed and died with the idiot and then had to watch in horror for two solid minutes while the last two peeps failed the WAVE TEN objective by never getting in the circle - and yes, the circle was clear and safe to get into during that time as I saw them run past it a few times while they ran around looking for moar enemies to kill. rawr! *slaps forehead*

last 2 silver matches, which seems a piece of cake we lost, because all of us gone to hackign zone,

guess what, those damn geth flame throwers overrun us :/ twice same thing.

on gold ( last match before those silvers ) I was asari adept, with another asari adept, drell adept and soldier.

Me and drell gone away form hacking zone killing all the banshees and brutes to keep hacking zone safe, noone died, and probably that was most smooth hacking objective i've done.

The way mobs wall hack, it's always helpful to have somebody outside a hack zone to pull a good deal of aggro. As long as it isn't an infiltrator... Because of cloak they pull very little aggro.

P.s. if you get to the objective quickly and stay there, three people can easily max out rewards.

tactics for a gold game are irrelevant, this was a silver game. Unless you tell your team what you are doing, i can see why they might get angry.

Hack Zone == Money. Excursions from hack zone are encouraged however in bad situations. My personal opinion is when I lead a game on gold I expect you to follow my orders and to trust me. I will coordinate every detail I possibly can. If someone else is leading the game then I will trust them and follow their orders. If noone is leading the game I will attempt to lead it. Laisez-faire run arounds for sh*ts and giggles only really works on bronze and silver.

That was what happened to a match I was in at wave 6, firebase gian com center. We were all there and got swarmed by pryos and hunters.

Funny, the only time I have been rude was during a similar thing.

We were only 2 people hacking and the enemies had spawned right at the computer so it took us a while to clear it before we started hacking so we were behind.

One guy decided to stay out of the circle to cover us or maybe just point ****, I don't know.
But I got annoyed and told him to get hacking, I didn't use curse words or anything but a slightly irritated tone of voice.

There were almost no enemies left and the ones that was closing in on us died as soon as I saw them so we didn't need someone to cover for us, we needed someone to help us hack faster.

Was I in the wrong to tell him to get into the zone?

I don't remember if it was bronze or silver, it was pretty easy anyway.

I got called a ****** for "only stealing kills with Throw". When trying to set up biotic explosions with Warp->Throw. :P

(I wasn't very successful at that, given that there was other two players constantly spamming Overload on everything, so my detonation attempts usually ended up with Throw killing off the nearly dead guy).
