Choosing to run off and solo during an objective wave is almost never "good tactics". This wasn't a gold game where an objective being overrun is a very real possibility.

A hacking objective being overrun in Silver is a very real possibility in the later waves.

Depends in your team got infiltrators or you are one yourself.

If no infiltrators then it is a risky strategy, since if you die, your team goes to hell.

Ofc, i do gold all the time. Did gold yesterday with 2 other people a lvl 8 and  lvl 15 and me 20.
I score normally 120/150k on gold.
Maybe its you that does not do gold.

Obviously, I'm doing something wrong. le sigh. I only get around 60K from gold(it's enough for the pack at least, but I did not expect there to be that big a difference).

LOL, i think it was implied i said i scored 120/150k.
Usually i do 70/73k credits.
And back on topic this was a silver game so you dont need anyone to aggro the enemy outside of the zone, on gold that is a different deal since you get pairs of banshee, 4 phantoms coming to have a party in the hackzone.

Well it DOES speed up the hack rate to have all the people in the hacking Zone, but if the placement of the hack can support some one outside the zone providing cover fire, that does seem like a wise and valuable job to do.

if you were playing bronze, then everyone should hack.  silver is more situational often times four folks hacking does lead to death though.

but most of the people plaing silver don't realize this.

Well, yesterday I was in a silver match. It was wave 10, had to kill the 4 "important" targets. 3 down, last one was an Atlas. I was keeping another Atlas + a few smaller enemies at bay away from the target, figuring the others could take out the target Atlas more easily, with a missile launcher if nothing else - after all, killing it would've meant an extra 20k credits. But no, they huddled down and by the time I managed to kill the other Atlas and tried to get to the target one, time ran out. And after the match I got votekicked out. No one said anything since no one ever uses a mic on PC, but it's not hard to figure they blamed me for not idling in the same place they were, because score-wise we were all quite even, I think I was third.

Naw silver its best if everyone is in there more money and its faster, you coulda stood in circle and still hacked bots and use the turret, my team uses turret or decoy all the time on gold.

More objectives are lost because people rush straight to the hacking zone without reviewing the situation than the opposite, I think. If you're going to insist on staying in the zone while two banshees, a brute, and three ravagers are closing in on you, at least have the good sense to use a missile. I usually end up using two missiles just trying to save these people.

Rushing to the hacking zone when it's surrounded by elites is as bad as ignoring the hacking zone altogether.

So.

Im in game, silver for fun ( usualy play gold ), Im Quarian Engineer with mattock.

We got Hack task to preform vs geth troops in Giant base.

So I stood on balcony, droping my drone on field to lay covering fire and stop those geth hunters etc. from getting to hacking zone, yeh cool it's fine, noone get's trough, they focus on my turret while im taking them down with mattock and incinerate.

And then I hear :

" You **** **** quarian engineer get your ass to hacking zone".

So,

Was my job made properly, gettin and keeping them off hacking zone, or i should just run into ot and let them come on ur, overrun us and kill.

You should have gotten your round ass to the hacking zone. All you did was waste a minute of 3 people's time by not being in the zone.

Nah, everyone needs to be in the hacking zone during that objective. The faster it downloads, the faster you can fall back to a better position.

Nothing is totally cut-and-dry. In the OP's situation he could have just as easily stayed in the zone, thrown his turret to the balcony, and used the doorway as a choke point, but there are certain situations where it's not feasible to stay in the hacking zone. Depends on the enemy spawn, defensibility of the position, team DPS, and how many people are alive and in the zone to hack. 90% of the time I do go straight to the hacking point, but you should always stay flexible and adapt to what the game gives you.

You obviously don't do PUGs in silver.

You should have gone to the circle. You were costing your team XP and credits by staying outside of it. Nothing makes me more angry than team mates who ignore that objective just to score some kills. I hold the zone as a vanguard and as a Krogan. There's no excuse for ignoring it.

You should stay inside the zone and do what you can from in there. If your team gets overrun by anything less than two banshees and brutes attacking at the same time from different directions then you should lower difficulty.

The blue circle exists for a reason, stay inside it, finish your job then do what you think is best.

I may get agitated when playing random games when people do this but I'd just tell them to get back, not swear at them.

If someone is going to insult you it will be a guy. If you are a woman that chance increases A LOT. Don't worry about it. Engineers are really useful doing exactly what you were doing and after bronze even a tiny bit of money for reward is great. Besides, unless you are trying to max out your Widows Spectre packs aren't offering much. You did good.

As long as there are 3 people hacking up to 50-75% completion it's alright in my book. 1 person should always delay or lure enemies away from the hacking zone especially if it's vs Reapers. I'd prefer the 3 Banshees and Brutes to go after someone on the other side of the map rather than swarm us in the zone.

You did good, but internet will always be internet.

I think there's a certain point when you should actually join them instead of sitting back.

I commend you for the teamwork effort, but you need those creds.

Gotta have those creds.

Pretty basic infantry tactic: You don't need to be directly on top of an object you're guarding. Although you do need at least 2 to complete hacks, at least one player should be providing overwatch or flanking fire.

See: http://en.wikipedia...._Duffer's_Drift
Namely lesson 15: 15 Do not huddle all your men together in a small trench like sheep in a pen. Give them air.

If you're a (human) vanguard and not tanking the spawns, you're doing it wrong.

Personally I prefer everyone to be in the zone for the faster hacking, but the "overwatch" strategy does have it's merits. The thing that really gets me upset though is when I or one other person are in the zone and the 2 or 3 other squadmates are off on the other side of the map (doing God knows what) while the hacking zone is being overrun. It's people like that that I just can't play with.

I've had that happen on a gold geth White run. One quarian infiltrator was so nice as to crouch on the landing pad overwatch while the other two managed to die three seconds into the hack objective. The infiltrator didn't fire a shot or move an inch until after the objective was complete. I managed to survive as a salarian engineer using decoy and a few medigels. Think I had to rocket the crowd twice, too. That wasn't much fun but I made it. Just wish I could rocket-to-the-face certain team members some days.

Just ignore those people.    I got the same thing vs the geth I was outside the hack zone on my infiltrator sniping/energy draining.   Somebody said get to the hack zone and I ignored them, about 10 seconds later all 3 of them went down and I revived them all and then moved out to cover again.    Didn't hear a word after that.

Exactly.
