I play as females in RP games a bit more than males. Frankly I enjoyed the Southern draw voice of the female shepherd in ME3

I always play a male in every RPG I play.
The goal of most rpg's is to connect the player with the player character. If you're playing a female, that's not me.

Plus, It's strange to see male NPC's trying to seduce you. It's...weird.

I prefer Jennifer Hale's voice acting tbh. The bit right before the collector base in ME2 where she delivered the line "get in close and finish them off!" had more menace in it as delivered by Jennifer.

First i dont really like the femshep voice,

And second, as a guy its easier for me to relate to a Male character. Identify myself and imagine myself in those situations.

I prefer to put myself into the situation of the main character in most games. So I usually pick male.

So you're veteran military officers with training from hell in real life? Good to know.

Cause im a bloke? Ive never felt the urge to play a female toon ever and this is over a period of 25years of gaming. I wondered if i was missing out so i was sneakily watching the wife play but it seemed pretty much the same with some superficial differences.

I dont get why people care to be honest. We all have different likes/dislikes, variety is the spice of life and all that.
Who cares if John Doe likes staring at polygon asses while he plays or that he thinks hes making some kind of social statement by playing a female.

Oh. I look at the rest of the screen where the stuff is actually happening. I must be a far, far better gamer than you if you're just looking at the character's butt...

fer serious answer -

It's because the majority of gamers are suburban white male teens who suffer from social isolation, emotional insecurity and a crippling lack of self-esteem. When they play a game, they identify with the main character to such a dramatic extent that the character becomes their primary tool for processing the emotional difficulties and frustrations they feel on a day-to-day basis.

As such, it becomes easier (and eventually, neccessary) to form an identification-bond with an ideal avatar: the tough, muscular he-man who always gets the girl and doesn't get picked on in gym class. That this character archetype conforms to the social ideal of what makes a man a True Man makes the identification process even easier and more emotionally rewarding.

Okay actually that wasn't fer serious. Some people like FemSheps, some people like BroSheps. We're all weirdos who play video games.

Having Garrus as the best wingman a guy could ask for.

All my FemShep has going for me is looking like Natalie Portman and being able to do Garrus. Since, y'know, everyone's gay for Garrus.

My friends and I literially make ourselves. We spend up to 30 mites each game tweaking the character model to look like ourselves, so thats why my friends and I play male...

When I play RPGs I always play a male character because I find it easier to identify and role play as a male character since I am a male irl

I occasionnally play as a guy, but most of the times it's easier to play the same sex. For roleplaying, especially. I don't know how to roleplay a guy.

Plus, ya know, girl power.

I play as both male and female Shepard. I see nothing wrong with either.

Frankly I'm sick and tired of people saying that one gender is better than the other in regards to the character of Shepards. Both approaches have their pros and cons, but they're both equally worthwhile experiences in my book.

I personally feel that FemShep is simply much more compelling a character. Something about the voice acting and the fact that a woman rises through the ranks and ultimately saves the galaxy is a lot more uplifting for me than yet another space marine. Also, look up the videos for the Anderson dialogue at the end, the FemShep version is so crazy good.

Everytime I play a woman, she always turns into a skanky hoe....

It's why I'd rather be male in my games. That way, I do the boning and not the other way around.

Was wondering when someone would post a reply to *that other* thread. +1 OP !

Anyway, I actually don't care about genders. Sometimes I try to model my Shepard after myself, other times I just want to check the VO of the other gender (Jennifer Hale does a great job btw, as if it wasn't said already xD) and the different romance subplots.

Speaking of romance, can we please get a Turian female LI in a future ME game BioWare ? Pretty please ?

I actually almost always play as males in games (I'm a female) I don't know if it's because I prefer it or if it's because playing video games most of my life has conditioned me to it.

Depends on the game in ME I prefer Hale's delivery of the lines and I think there are scenes that work better with a female Shepard

I play a MShep for the same reason I play M in most games; to put myself into the characters shoes.
My alts are often female but that's to see any different content or if my sister steals my laptop again...

For me, it's simple roleplaying. I have been a D&D player for about 10 years now though, so roleplaying is probably more important to me than it is to most people.

Also, the staring at a guy's butt thing doesn't apply to me. In video games, particularly shooters, I spend my time looking around my environment. High spatial awareness does not include studying my character's backside.
