I actually play as both. Universe 1 Shep and Universe 2 Shep. Adding 3 & 4 at a later date

Also female characters have better and look better through customization, while Male Shep looks always a bit off, and Mar Meer's voice definetly doesn't suit every face.

I tend to view RPGs as my story. I'm not experiencing Shepard's story, I'm experiencing my story. So I always pick male in these games and tend to make the guy look somewhat similar to me.

Well I wanted to make Shepard in my own image that's kind of the whole you can make Shepard in your own image. A black man is the leader of the free world but he can't save the galaxy from ancient sentient machines? That's like me asking women who play as femshep why is their shepard white. So to every one in this thread if your shepard is white. Why is your Shepard white?

I always play both male and female, as for referring to Shepard as "he" it just feels right. When people start referring to him as a "she" I tend to ignore their posts because it just feels wrong.

Okay I hope this doesn't turn into troll bait but I'm really curious. In games where the character is customizable do you try to make them look more like you in general. Just for example I'm black and whenever I play as femshep I always make her black and try to make her features closer to mine.

I have two Shepards. My favorite one is female. For some reason, I still refer to Shep as a guy, when talking about him, though.

Probably just because of all the trailers and marketing that was geared toward the Male Shep for so long.

I use both, and try to say 'they' instead of he or she when talking about Shepard with others.

I do slightly prefer Mark Meers voice acting to Jennifer Hales, but only a bit, and I honestly think they do an equally excellent job, both having their strong points where they do a slightly better job than one another, but overall neither is definitively 'superior' to me.

I do play as a ManShep the most though, simply because I made my favourite class (infiltrator) male, and also happened to use that one to romance Tali, whose my favourite LI. My second favourite class is Engineer, which I made a Femshep, who I play almost as much though, with one play through each for the other classes, 2 male 2 female.

I've only done the Infiltrator in 3 though, since the lack of ending variation makes replays pointless, sadly.

A male that plays a female in games is gender confused. Not saying you're gay but there is a bit of confusion going on there.

No idea at first, (okay some idea, too many herp derps consider vidya games to be real life and NOT fantasy) femshep since ME1 w/ Liara till the end of 3.

Then came ME2 and just wanted more with Tali, any woman or alien with that kind of attitude who would put up with what she did to have continual sex with me (tried out a male shep in 2 as a side tester) is 110% marriage material, end of story. Damn them for not doing a full nude of Tali rendered in game, DAMN THEM!

I'm going to come clean. The real reason I chose femShep in the first place (though after playing femShep and broShep I much prefer femShep objectively) was that my dad was watching me play Mass Effect. After I just went with standard Shep, my dad pointed out "Matt, that's kind of a skintight suit, isn't it?" and neither of us could really unsee it. So I said "Screw this" and remade a female character.

So glad I did, even if the reason was ... less than savoury.

I play MaleShep because I can relate to a male character more.

I am not really a good role-player, I tend to just put myself in the shoes of the character, so can be a little weird for me to play a female.

I always choose female in games when I can. Who wants to stare at guy butt for 150 hours?

Oh. I look at the rest of the screen where the stuff is actually happening. I must be a far, far better gamer than you if you're just looking at the character's butt...

OR I'm soo good I can whoop reaper tail whilst looking at femshep BOOTY

Heh. Touche.

Oh this thread again.

Uh... I don't? I'm a straight male and prefer femshep. I think most people I know play male shep because they don't feel comfortable thinking of their player character as being attracted to men.

I find it easier to roleplay a male myself. Whether as a result of biology or upbringing, I find women just seem to process information differently from guys, so I'm never completely comfortable with my female characters.

That being said, I've got several characters in the works right now, two female, two male, that I plan on running through the entire trilogy when I've got the time :P

I'm not staring at the toon's hind quarters when playing a game. If that's the only "action" a game has, I doubt it's the kind I care to play. I do, however, prefer a story that only a broShep can accomplish. I did play femShep in ME1, but that was once. I decided that the femShep story direction in specific parts just wasn't for me. The story seemed to flow better with Kaiden sacrifice (specifically at the nuke) and a romance with Ash. That's just me.

Well femshep would have to lead a team which includes other women....

Women with female bosses = end of galaxy.
