Why do so many IRL males play a male Shepard?

No, this game ios not like F2 where a different gender has some different reactions.
I don't miss any thing.
Watching on INTERNET the different gender videos there is nothing I miss.
Female and Male Shepard have different dialogue at various parts of the game.
You even have a wonderful bonding moment with Eve if you're a FemShep.
Argh... now I want to play ME3 as femshep. Just to see what the different dialogue is.

I like how the OP seems to think we wouldn't have figured out his meaning if he just put, "why do males play male Shepard" for his title.

I did the same in Saints Row the Third, and besides Laura Bailey has a sexy voice.

I usually make a chick on my 2nd play through just to see what reactions are different. As male shep I always feel I need to make the choice that "I" would make. Where as on my bi tch shep I have no issues being a mean horrible person.

Skyrim, I played male. Fallout 3 and New Vegas, also male.
When I make a male character, I make them look like me: shaved head, goatee, green eyes, tan.
Female characters are whatever strikes my fancy when I make them: FemShep has black hair and blue eyes, light complexion.

Being a male, I identify better with playing as a male character. There is a disconnect for me when playing as a woman, as I can't envision or put myself in her shoes.
Pretty much this.
I don't look at shepards ass really, so I could care less if its a male or female one. If I want to stare at someones ass, I'll do it in real life.

Reading the story discussion on these forums has surprised me just how many guys refer to their Shepard as "he". In a game all about choices and exploring different possibilities, practically inviting you to try every option available, it just seems strange to me how many people apparently always play as the same sex, especially given all the romance plots, etc.
Would you argue that those who do so are missing some major plot elements or great scenes? Anyone else feel the same way?
Because i dont like what we can do with custom face and i dont like the official one for femshepard.
Nothing more.

Of course just as many males play females either because of the eye candy aspect or because of the adventerous "Day in her shoes," type of aspect. Ditto with females who play males.

People tend to play as their own gender because video game characters tend to be an extension of the player. I play as a man because I am a man, My Shepard is an idealized "Me" as Shepard.
Also, Contrary to what popular belief demands I believe, I don't think that Femsheps voice acting is very good. I played about an hour of ME1 as a femshep and just got plain BORED with her dull-ass acting. Mark Meer is no Patrick Stewart but I found his voice considerably more emotive and interesting to listen to.
Honestly I'm sick of getting a rap from people who think I OUGHT to be playing as ****ing Femshep. I don't want to play as Femshep, Deal with it.

Wait, so do you prefer the male shepard character creator options, or just use the default male? Because I found that while I can fairly easily create a decent looking femshep, the male options almost always come out... lacking. As in they look like crap. The noses and eyes in particular bother me.Drake_1000 wrote...

I prefer to put myself into the situation of the main character in most games. So I usually pick male.

I played the Tomb Raider series when I was younger, Tomb Raider 2 was the new hotness at the time. I liked the concept. However as time went on everyone tried to iconic Lara as everything from every man's woman to a glorified sex pot.
The games themselves were okay, but I found myself getting tired of a lot of the BS.
Now we get to modern day, the Female Characters in most games are usually unrealistic. *Points at any Made in Japan game.* I mean granted fantasy needs 'some' leeway. But when you have males running around in practical plate mail and the girl is getting the 'Full Metal Wedgie.' And everything that is expendable is covered but all the vitals are flashing out it makes you facepalm.
While I was tempted by Male-shep at first, I chose the Female Shepard because she comes off as strong. Military, disciplined. She doesn't come off as a bimbo or some seductress. She wasn't by any means 'hot' hell I've yet to see a 'hot' fem-shep. However she was cool. The armor remained practical. Her options were mostly identical to the guys.
That and I sort of have a voice crush on Jennifer Hale.

In Mass Effect 3 I started with a male paragon and would have gone on to play a female renogade second, followed by male renogade & female paragon. Off course, all that ended after seeing the ending.
Whereas in Skyrim I started with female paragon followed by the most evil male dark elve you'll ever come across. He murdered and stole his way all across Skyrim.
MS1, MS2, Origins, DA2, Fallout 3, Fallout NV, Oblivion, I can't remember what I started with, but have gone through with both sexes.

Pretty much this, when I play roleplaying games I put myself into the character, since I'm a guy I choose to be a guy.
