Does anybody else feel that the Vanguard class is almost too powerful in Mass Effect 3 ?

I find myself completely dominating everything other than Banshees with charge and nova on insanity mode. I dont even know if incendiary ammo is really necessary if shields and power damage are maxed out.

I agree with that...reminds me of Knights of the Old Republic when you could walk in the room with Force Storm and instantly lay down 6 people.

Only on difficulties less than veteran. Using nova-spam on insanity will send you back to your last save pretty quickly.

Though I agree it is the most capable class. They nerfed Infiltrator compared to ME2.

That has not been my experience at all.  I can Insanity Charge + Nova until the cows come home, unless I accidentally target a Banshee.  And even then death only occurs about 20% of the time.

I went back and played some ME2 Insanity Claymore Vanguard just to see what it was like.  Being forced to think was a refreshing change of pace.

Nope, I use Nova full blast for one entire playthrough and I dont notice much difference

I've never used the half blast and I survive just fine on Insanity.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think half blast  is necessary if you keep your cooldowns low.

Thank you, Wraith.

BTW, you can charge a banshee :P I always do.

There is a video Kronner posted to show how to break free from Banshee melee, grenade & warp will break the Banshee's hold on you.

If you time your charges well - ie when they start their silly biotic attack animation, they cant catch you.

Haha yeah. I like to run into the enemy, Nova, then Charge them. So a full blast does more damage.

No, the ability to regenerate full shields every 2s whilst staggering nearby enemies and damaging them is perfectly balanced

That's more or less been my strategy.  I usually only Charge them if nothing else is available.  Following it up with a quick backwards roll usually keeps me safe.

They've replaced and one-upped the ME2 Sentinel.

I wonder if it's because too many people complained about the steep learning curve for ME2's Vanguard.  I can't imagine that this is the case, as the developers saw what the expert players in the community were capable of on youtube.

Yea Vanguard was actually a challenge when you didnt have Nova. I find myself not even using my weapon at times.

spamming charge-nova on insanity makes for one hell of a boring game. i have no idea why they butchered a once deep, high skill-cap class like the VG. i thoroughly enjoyed my fresh insanity run with the sentinel. engagements were rewarding, i needed to plan out my approach, and actually use my companions to win. im looking forward to my NG+ runthrough with my sentinel.

ME3's VG is a class that is completely broken. one hell of a poor design choice.

I know exactly what you mean.  I've considered dropping shotguns entirely as they can't compete with Nova.  Might as well bring something lightweight and good at pegging armor.  Oh, hello, Phalanx.  You'll do nicely.

I think Nova would be more balanced if it conformed to the global cooldown like most other powers.  That way if you want to spam it, you have to have your weapon weight as low as possible.  It would still be strong, but you'd have to think before using it.

nope. have you tried it? with 200% recharge, you can spam charge nova ad infinitum. youre fine as long as youve got something in your LOS to lock onto.

oh well, as long as i ignore my fav class, and play the other ones, SP on insanity can remain semi enjoyable.

I think Sentinel has taken a step back since ME2 also.  Not even interestied in really starting a playthrough with it. They strengthened Vanguard and Adept and made sentinel useless to me. Since most enemies dont have have barrier like they did on ME 2 insanity id rather have more offense then defense.

Well, you all can play Vanguards without Nova. I didnt a PT without Nova (except against the annoying Husk and Spider spawns). It is indeed more challenging.

Playing a Soldier now... I dont find it any less powerful compared to Vanguards. Actually, I have taken health damage at most 5x; I just beat Thessia. The Soldier can gun most things down before they get in range to return fire. I use Defensive Matrix to recharge my shields, can do it once about every 3+ seconds.

How do you unlock defensive matrix ?

Vanguard is not overpowered compared to the other classes. Compared to the enemies ME3 throws at you, Vanguard is OP, just like all the other classes. ME3 is not very hard game, even on Insanity.

edit: That is the second power unlock, so it is later in the game

i love the sentinel in ME3 for a few reasons:

- it's not OP broken like in ME2. VG is the broken class of ME3.
- you can detonate warp
- lift grenade + double throw projectiles = nuff said
- youre the true jack of all trades now; ME2's sentinel had issues with armor. now, you perfectly synergize with biotic and tech companions

Seriously?
Sentinel is no weaker than Vanguard in ME3 SP on Insanity. If anything, Sentinel is even more powerful due to easy Biotic bombs that never put you in danger, at all. This is how I played Sentinel for a while. It was ridiculous. So I switched to tank-Sentinel and carry 4 weapons. I get 70% damage resistance, longer cooldowns and I can bring any weapons I want. It is still super easy this way, but more fun..at least for now.

I have yet to play class in ME3 SP (played Vanguard, Infiltrator, Sentinel and Engineer) that would not riducle any and all enemies ME3 throws at you. It is just plain silly how powerful vast majority of powers is and the fact that they have such a low cooldown makes Insanity really, really easy. Regardless of class.
