We need to build areas without the number "2" in their title, apparently...

On a more serious note, the only similarity I can draw between areas 202 and 212 (the ones that, when removed, stop the crashing) are drastic elevation changes, however I'm not sure it is more than certain other areas in my module (like area 203 "the wilderness" and area 206 "the wilds").

I've been trying to figure it out, but can't.

I hope Karen and Dan make it through the whole adventure okay. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I looked at 202 and 212 in the toolset. Nothing strange about the areas. The area enter scripts don't look like they do anything weird. The areas are pretty straightforward, not super complicated. There's not tons of objects in either. No custom community monsters. A few community vfx in one, and a custom placeable in the other. The walkmesh could possibly use a bit of cleaning up.

There is a lot of height variation in those areas, but it's entirely within what the toolset allows by default. One has 60 meters of variation, one 100 (but not 100 meters of variation in the walkmesh). I have at least one area with much more elevation change in Path of Evil (I used all 200 meters allowed by the toolset). Have any Mac users played that to completion (it's in my last module)?

Kaldor should be able to easily test height variation as the source, I have a prefab map with more variation than that on the Vault ("high mountain random") http://nwvault.ign.c...s.Detail&id=615

Fnast, I didn't have any trouble with North of the Moonsea so that's weird.

kamal, I haven't played Path of Evil yet, but I'll let you know what happens when I get the chance to play it.

Matthew, I was so happy to be able to play chapter 2 that I put aside the mod I had just started so I'll let you know how it goes. I haven't had any crashes, as I mentioned I was just dumped to the desktop when trying to reload a saved game, but that happens every so often anyway and is probably the game itself (I can't count how many times it happened when I played the Kitchen boy, but that game was very heavy in graphics, etc.).

Btw, I have a question somewhat off topic for all of you if you don't mind. I'm hoping to install Mow over spring break. Will these mods work with it or will I have to remove it before playing other mods from the vault?

Thanks again,

Karen :)

I've been able to start MoW using the Mac App store version without any crashing, but I haven't played through the game. To install it on Mac I copied it over from a Windows installation though (directions posted in my blog here). I'm not sure how you are planning to install it. I don't think there should be any issues with other 3rd party mods though.

My mistake, Karen--it was the White Plume Mountain module I was thinking of, not North of the Moonsea. You're right, that one plays just fine on Macs. I'm better with locations than names, I guess;-)

I'll download White Plume Mountain and see if it crashes on my Mac as well. If so, maybe it can be resolved similarly. I haven't been able to determine from looking at TWA2 what is the root cause though.

I'm running windows vista 32 and have had MOW on my machine for several years and it has never caused any problems that I know of.

Thank you! I was hoping I wouldn't have to remove it to play other mods although it wouldn't be that difficult thanks to the time machine (one of the best things Apple ever did!).

Re: White Plume Mountain. I'm not sure if it's the same problem since I could load the game and get into some of the areas. The rest dumped me to the desktop, although I believe different areas were made by different people so it could be possible.

So far White Plume Mountain hasn't crashed for me, but I haven't left the first area. I guess I'll have to play it a while.

Are there any other modules that were crashing before you could even start playing?

Trinity crashed a few seconds after starting to load, so did Ebha, and Conan Chronicles 2 - The Zamorian Chronicles was doing the same thing, but it turns out it might be a bad mod. Somebody else mentioned it on the vault and I'm waiting to see if the author is going to upload a new version.

I know there were a few others which I listed previously, but I can't think of them at the moment (it's been a crazy day). I can't get part 2 of Tears of Ilmarid to play either. It loads, but doesn't seem to recognize that chap. 2 is in and will only let me play chap. 1 again.

Kaldor, the areas I could never get into in White Plume Mountain without crashing were the parts on the Eastern and North-East sides of the overland map, and parts of the Central regions, including the mountain itself. Everything on the West side and North-West side worked fine for me, as did the Underdark Market area in the central portion of the map. Couldn't get into any other locations without crashing. I remember noticing that the folder structure was related to the crashes, since all the areas I could get into were in the same folder, but the ones I couldn't get to were in different folders.

Good luck, and thanks for the further investigations!

Dan

Oh yeah, the southern regions were OK for me, such as the Gnoll Mines, if I'm remembering the name correctly.

White plume mountain does have crashing problems in windows as well. I've experienced it (in fact i gave up on the campaign due to frequent crash to desktop), and there are number of posts on the Vault mentioning it. Iirc it was some of the area transitions.

Ebha isn't causing any crashes for me.  I'll take a look at Trinity.

Thanks Kaldor! I thought I'd try Ebha again since it worked for you, but now I can't find it! The only thing listed on the vault is an unfinished area and now I can't remember where I downloaded it. Where did you get it?

Matthew, sorry to bother you again, but I need more help and the vault seems to be down. I'm in the Frost giant ruins and found a small cave. It says I have to make myself smaller, but none of the spells work. Is there such a spell as reduce person? I did an online search but couldn't find a cheat code. How do I get my char into that tiny opening?

Btw, that maze game drove me crazy lol!

Thanks,

Karen :)

Yes, you can use the spell Reduce Person for that small cave.

Kamal_ is right. Reduce Person is the right spell. You can either cast it from memory, use a scroll, or summon strilinji and he has a rod of reduce person for sale at a surprisingly reasonable price.

In all the years I've been playing I never heard of this spell and can't find a cheat code anywhere online. Does anybody know the console code for it?

Thanks!

Karen :)

Incidentally, does Mass Reduce Person work as well? I thought someone had said they'd tried that unsuccessfully.

I think mass reduce person does not work. I don't think I thought of that one.

Thanks! Reduce person worked - I couldn't find the code anywhere.

Matthew, 2 questions if you don't mind. Who is strilinji and how do I summon him? Did I miss something? I also read on the vault that there was a quest to find somebody's staff. Did I miss that too? I really have to do this again after finishing!

Thanks again,

Karen :)
