This makes me sad, It is such a good game until the end. I wish I could go on line and say everything was great and it was the game of the year, but the ending killed it.
Thing is distributors are taken in by the hype too. Which is why they have overordered and why the prices are dropping in less than a month.
This means that in much the same way that people will be more cautious about Biowares next release. The same is true of the distribution side of things, the last thing they want is to be left holding stock and having to sell it at a loss to avoid long term loss.

It's on sale because it's a major title and they're trying to capitalize on that fact by enticing people to come into the store and use the money they saved on the game to buy other stuff, thus going way past the initial $60 said customer expected to buy when first walking into the store.Captain Arty wrote...
It's probably just a sale. But it's probably on sale because it isn't selling as well as they expected and now they're trying to promote it before putting it back up to $60.
It doesn't change the fact that the Gamestops in my town are shipping copies of ME3 to storage because they have to many. I asked the clerk a week ago if he thought the price would go down, and he said he was shocked it hadn't already. At that particular store (near a college) they were getting more traded in or sold to them than they were selling. And the game isn't even a month old.
Best Buy always does this to major games. Always.

But after a week or two it will go back up to list price after they see a spike in demand because of it.

The only games that ever hold their value are the COD games, due to their massive cross demographic appeal.
I love ME, a lot. But please remember, its an RPG, which , apart from the RTS genre, is the smallest slice of the gaming pie. It was never going to be a 10 week at number one spot game.

No! it has to be because of Retake! it has to be because of a bunch of tards are holding an invisible line! the world revolves around us bro, we sent cupcakes! we bought this game and hmm because we did.. ME3 is losing sales don't you see becuase we promised we wouldn't buy the dlc... so once the dlc comes out.. EA and Bioware will be broke see! because we had a few people return their game and we cried a lot.. and our crying made the whole world decide not to buy this game..
lol. sad. but hey.. it's BSN right? Two places have a sale and suddenly its a dying game.. a game that sold almost 3 million copies. yeah sure guys.. you buying this game sure did hurt it. congrats

But!!! There's a difference between SELLING and SHIPPING a product. If a product isn't selling, as is the case with ME3, you have to wonder, by the end of the month or however long it takes, when places like Best Buy, Gamestop, etc decide to return those SHIPPED purchases back to BioWare/EA's warehouse.
It smacks so much of Atari's Pac-Man/ET debacle back in the 80's. Though I don't think BioWare is going to bury copies of ME3 in a New Mexico landfill.........
....then again...stranger things and all......

How many units need to be sold to breakeven?
I agree that ME3 had a stellar opening week. Everyone was looking forward to this game. The fallout (if any) will be in the coming months.

It'll go back up to $60. Trust me.
How will it go up?
Products decrease in value over time. They never increase. NEVER.
(obvious exception for rarity)
So unless Bioware pulls ME 3 off the shelves, then it's only going to get worse.

This is DA2 all over again. Will they learn this time? Probably not, as long as IGN and co. give them 125%
I can already see the conclusion at the headquarters.
"I know! Let's charge 5 bucks each time the player wants to make a paragon or renegade choice! That should restore our reputation."

You don't understand video game retail. Before anyone calls me a fanboi, i really disliked the ending (thats polite understatement). But the truth is, 90% of people who were going to buy ME because they were really into it, have already bought it. Whats left are incidental sales, and people who couldn't get it first time. If the ending was perfect, the price would STILL be dropping.
The only games that ever hold their value are the COD games, due to their massive cross demographic appeal.

After what happened with BW in recent years many are cautious and wait for reactions first.
If a game is really good, word will get arround and it can sell decent over a long period of time like DA:O did or The Witcher.
If it is a dissappointment then that will be reflected by a steep fall of sales after the first week;
exactly what happened with DA2 and probably what's happening with ME3.
This is another case where hype and expecations (often based on lies) brought in more money than the quality of the game.
The real acomplishment is a game that sells good outside of the first week, because only then is the success based of the game and how players (not so called critics!) evaluate it and not misleading marketing hype.
EA is focusing on advertising and reaching every audience over genuine deserved reputation.

There is no link, because there are no official numbers, and it's impossible to get any. People keep making the mistake of thinking VGChartz numbers are valid, when they're largely made up. Their methodology is "We take a small sample of sales and project them", which is widely regarded as invalid math because it fails to account for pretty much every possible variable. Also, they don't identify where their samples are from.
For instance, if I call the Gamestop on my college campus, get numbers, and project them. Then do the same with a Gamestop in a isolated suburb, I'm going to get two wildly different projections.
Which is why VGChartz has a habit of retroactively changing their numbers after NPD reports release and/or companies make official announcements.

Just checked £29.99 at Amazon UK now, 25% reduction in a little over 2 weeks, worse than DA2.
Isn't March 31 the fiscal year-end for EA?
Why do you think EA wanted ME3 out the door by the beginning of March? For EA, it was all about the bottom line.
