I should add that because EA wanted all those pretty zeros for their bean counters to look at, they didn't really care about what customers actually thought of ME3. Poor BioWare got caught right in the middle.

Link?

How many units need to be sold to breakeven?

I agree that ME3 had a stellar opening week. Everyone was looking forward to this game. The fallout (if any) will be in the coming months.

There is no link,  because there are no official numbers,  and it's impossible to get any.  People keep making the mistake of thinking VGChartz numbers are valid,  when they're largely made up.  Their methodology is "We take a small sample of sales and project them",  which is widely regarded as invalid math because it fails to account for pretty much every possible variable.  Also,  they don't identify where their samples are from.

For instance,  if I call the Gamestop on my college campus,  get numbers,  and project them.  Then do the same with a Gamestop in a isolated suburb,  I'm going to get two wildly different projections.

Which is why VGChartz has a habit of retroactively changing their numbers after NPD reports release and/or companies make official announcements.

Thanks. Your comments make complete sense. Your posts usually contain more information. Most economic releases are also prone to heavy revision over time because they are being estimated from small/tiny samples and contain seasonality.

Dridengx purports to be an expert so I wanted to scratch the surface and let him dazzle everyone with his knowledge. So far, I call no joy.

We can only make rough estimations of sales on a lagged basis. Even if we could precisely know the sales figures, we wouldn't know the profit margin on each unit sold nor would we know how many units are needed to breakeven. Basically, we're groping in the dark.

Still, I like considering all the information that is available. Each bit of information is another piece in the mosaic.

Can anyone confirm 29.99$ for this? Almost worth buying it then--although I might wait to get it from gamestop to ensure they don't get any money and mistake my purchase for support.

I just went to my local Best Buy in Los Angeles and Mass Effect 3 was not on sale. It is still being sold for $59.99.

ME2 had a huge price drop pretty quick also though. I remember like 2 months after release you could get it for 200KR here in Sweden which is 1/3 of what it cost at launch. The problem is not that it is a bad product, but over shipping, they gotta get rid of the stock they have somehow and it does compete with used game sales so.

Two months is better than three weeks, right?

it dropped 6 dollars according to Amazon in 3 weeks

1/3rd price = 20

2 months = 8 weeks

6 dollar drop after 3 weeks....

you see where this is going right or do I need to explain the math to you more?

Bioware deserves it fully. Maybe next time they learn how to make a proper ending and screw us fans up the arse.

Yea Bestbuy does it all the time, they did it with Battlefield 3 shortly after it came out, and MWF3 shortly after it came out as well, and way back with Fallout New Vegas.

Stealth, I agree and the way multiplayer works into the single player dose not help the end either. I have no idea how they got above a 5 out of 10 now that I think of it. The ending killed the game its more like a 3 out of 10, but It will be a 5 dollar special in 3 months if they do not fix it. Even if they can. It will be a up hill battle to get the fans respect back.

yeah it'll go back up. This is a gimmick by BB. I got Mass effect 2 online from their store for $12 when INSIDE the store it was still selling for $50 a year after it's release.

You can get it right now for about $47 with shipping at Amazon. That's $13 in three weeks. You see where I'm going with this?

Its 51.64 on amazon even if you chose the lengthy free super saving it would still be 51.....if you didn't it would be around 55 how dumb are you honestly? Did you even click on the tabs to see that there are no copies selling for the listed price? I am guessing not rofl.

So they have not changed their fliers yet...it could be a "price-cut" to push product then spike it up afterwards. Since the flier goes till today.

/Also from Canada.

Also I saw Fallout: New Vegas plus expansions for 25 dollars which just came out, that must mean the game is horrendous!

Hardly shifted since day 2.

Sold approx 900k day 1 and 2 then just bottomed out. This was long before the ending even became common knowlege.Back when I ballparked ME3 at 3.5 million someone said they would beat me around the head with the real figures a couple of weeks after release...

Still £23.99 at Amazon btw.

I'll be interested to see if the price cuts continue into the next fiscal year - like on Monday.

The sudden price drop seems to be spreading, in HMV (UK store) the price is also down to £29.99 I don't think Duke Nukem Forever suffered a drop like that.

It's impressive for a game that's only been out 21 days.
