I prefered Meer to Hale for one particular reason:

Hale while a great VA came off as too much of a whispering voice for an action hero, but that is just my thought and people are free to disagree with me.

Neither Hale or Meer get that line right. I doubt anybody could.
Keith David could.
Keith David can say any random combination of words and use it as a pick up line. Hell, he could probably call you a fat, ugly hooker, and you'd be totally fine with it.

Meer has a natural soldier-ish voice, and it worked well. He didn't need to force it.
I'm playing through my FemShep now, and while she's a good VA I find she's trying way too hard to sound 'badass', and adding a sort of raspyness to the end of literally almost every line. It drives me insane. Now that I've noticed it, I hear it in everything!
Just my opinion though.
i have to agree to be honest.
i never really cared about playing as femshep though, but i do prefer meer's voice to hales.

I also remember that Mark Meer voiced a lot of the Volus as well. Amazing talent right there.
And the vorcha too.

Once I put the time into making a face that suits Hale, I've decided that she's superior. For good reason, too; IMDb her -- she's been in all sorts of roles. Also, she's Samus.
Since then, I've also found a nasally undertone in Meer's voice that always makes him sound like he's about to deliver a punchline. It's one of those things I cannot unhear.

He also did the voice for "the Biotic God" from ME2. The guy's just funny.

If Keith David read BioWare's PR releases to us, we would be ok with the ending.

If Keith David told us that the ending was the best ending ever, I'd be inclined to believe him.

I think we can all agree Mark Meer is the best voice talent in the industry, such an amazing guy.
Nope, I don't agree with this at all.
His work is the best I've ever seen, have you even played as maleShep?
Play maleShep its reall good voice work.
I have, his voice grated on my ears as Shepard. Ironically, I think he did great as Mordin
