I prefered Meer to Hale for one particular reason:

Meer has a natural soldier-ish voice, and it worked well. He didn't need to force it.

I'm playing through my FemShep now, and while she's a good VA I find she's trying way too hard to sound 'badass', and adding a sort of raspyness to the end of literally almost every line. It drives me insane. Now that I've noticed it, I hear it in everything!

Just my opinion though.

This, I always have to switch to the german dub because of this.

I think we can all agree Mark Meer is the best voice talent in the industry, such an amazing guy.

Nope, I don't agree with this at all.

His work is the best I've ever seen, have you even played as maleShep?

Play maleShep its reall good voice work.

I have, his voice grated on my ears as Shepard. Ironically, I think he did great as Mordin

Except Mark Meer hasn't voiced Mordin.  :P  EDIT: I'm wrong, he voiced Mordin in the demo.

"Mordin Solus is voiced by Michael Beattie in Mass Effect 2 and by William Salyers in Mass Effect 3."

From what I've seen I'd say Meer was at his best when Shepard was giving orders "Joker! We need evac now!" or was making a general "Screw you I'm doing whats right" paragon comments and the like, Hale on the other hand was at her best when she was doing the more emotional moments with the crew and the "I'm going to kick your ass 12 ways from sunday" renegade comments.

Also as said, Meer didn't really hit his stride until ME2 but once he got going he was on par with Hale. Both did the character of Shepard great justice and are both great VA's, anybody who says otherwise just has their head up there own butt.

I like both of them all in all. Hale does a great job, the only problem is I can't get into her casual conversation voice. It doesn't sound natural to me, too hard edged, which makes sense in character. But it's not my preference for a woman's voice.

Mark Meer hasn't disappointed, I find him better at more intimate conversations than Hale, and since I play the game for the characters as much as the action, I prefer Meer.

I like Meer better but I think Hale did a hell of a job. Nothing wrong with either.

Hale is perfect for a renegade femshep. Meer is perfect for a paragon maleshep.

Are you kidding me? Dude the only reason I bought all the games in french and english is because the French MaleShep's voice is perfect for paragon but Meer's voice is so badass for renegade, with so many one liners! :)

On a more important note, what's up with the complete lack of voice acting from Morgan Freeman in all 3 games?

Soldier-ish voice?

Seriously, has anyone MET a soldier? If anything, Sheploo/Meer is too Hollywood soldier. I know lots of soldiers, and they don't sound Hollywood to me. You know why? Because not every person in the military sounds like a Hollywood action star. They're real people.

Fail reason is fail, and quite frankly, insulting.

Never played a femShep, and I'm not sure if I ever will. But almost anything's got to be better than:

"STEEEEEEEEEEEEVEEEEEEE!"
"I'm ok."
"...you sure?"

It's insulting to real soldiers.  And to human diversity.

Haha, i was a soldier once (guess i still am i got the training, but fortunatly not using it anymore), and i dont sound anything like any of them. So i agree there.

As for my personal preference, its definatly Hale there. Nothing agains male shep, i just think femsheps VA get emotion across much better.

Jennifer Hale is perfect, she is the Goddess incarnate, anything she says or does is fine with me.

This!

I totally love her voice acting. Her voice is my Shepard and has been throughout all the games. I started with Femshep and ended with Femshep. I have tried playing Maleshep but it seemed all wrong to have another voice speaking Shepards words, don't get me wrong I am sure he is a great voice actor too. Just not MY shepard :)

I'm terrible at hearing emotions, but I do like both Meer's and Hale's delivery. And both have a pretty wide range as voice actors go.

I only play female Shepards, however.

Hale is more consistent I feel. Meer does an ok job, but can be a little uneven at times. I would love to hear Kevin Conroy do Shepard. That would be epic.
