I prefered Meer to Hale for one particular reason:

Jennifer is good, but Meer is way more believable as a soldier. :|
I don't understand this line. Why is he more believable as a soldier?
Cause women aren't in the army, duh...
!! But..my sister was in the army..
Indoctrination theory, she's not.

"Big goddam stupid jellyfish"
I dunno, he just sounds like he could deliver it with comedy. That's the point of it though, comedy. Meer and Hale both have their respective strengths and weaknesses as Shepard. I rather fancy both myself.

These are my favourite lines from hale.
Everything about that Trial, Hale does amazingly well. Maybe she just really likes shouting.

I'm playing through my FemShep now, and while she's a good VA I find she's trying way too hard to sound 'badass', and adding a sort of raspyness to the end of literally almost every line. It drives me insane. Now that I've noticed it, I hear it in everything!
Hale sounded raspy to you?
Odd. The only character I can remember from ME 3 sounding raspy was Raphael Sbarge. I used to dread talking to Kaidan because I'd feel the urge to scratch my ears until they bled after every line he delivered.

I can't even comprehend how someone could prefer Meer to Hale. Hearing Meer talk in his nasally monotone makes my ears want to bleed.

Meer has a natural soldier-ish voice, and it worked well. He didn't need to force it.

Just my opinion though.
Wow sooo glad I'm not the only one! Agree 100% OP.. I hear it every line and I can't stand it.. I have a couple FemShep playthroughs

Fixed for you... Once you've heard one of Hales line, you've heard them all... seriously.. I'm not bashing Hale but what the OP is saying it true... she tries to hard to sound "badass" and all her lines end up sounding the same.

Plus, all the voice actors were probably just doing what the director wanted. If you have a problem with the voices, don't blame the artists, they didn't choose which takes were used.

Yeah, well hearing Hale makes me want to cut my tongue off and slice it into pieces to shove in my ear canals so I can't hear her anymore, then take a .45 and blow a hole in my temple in peace and quiet.
/sarcasm
This thread is ridiculous. People have different voices, and people respond differently to them. Nobody sounds "more military" because a person can have any voice and still be in the military. Then we have comments like yours which are just so over-the-top, it's silly.

Okay, here's a question. Why does Sheppard have to sound 'badass'? Surely the point is that she/he IS badass.
Yeah but Shep is badass regardless I mean everyone of Hale's lines are low pitched and sound the same.. some of her lines completely destroy the feeling you got from the one before... Even in the beginning:
Anderson: You look good Shepard. Maybe a little soft around the edges. How you holding up since being relieved from duty?
FemShep: It's not so bad once you get used to the hot food and soft beds.
Me: >_< Dammit Hale!

Hale definitely sounds more badass, so her quips and Bond one-liners come off great, while Meer sounds forced. Then again, Meer delivers some lines perfectly (his delivery of "I'm sorry, I'm getting a lot of bull**** on this line" to the Illusive Man is a standout).
"STEEEEEEVEEEE!" is going to sound ridiculous no matter who is saying it.

This I can agree with, it's not 100% the VA's fault..

So I'm not sure what you mean by it not sounding like a soldier. I think her voice is very tough and fits the character perfectly.
I love how opposite some of these arguments can go. I remember all the way back to ME1, people were complaining Hale was too manly, and not sexy enough. And now you got people saying she's too sexy and not soldier enough.
..You have now entered, the Twilight Zone...

I'll look in comparing the Paragon dialog properly later but from what I can tell broshep always sounds proud where as femshep seems to be about to laugh half the time.
