I prefered Meer to Hale for one particular reason:

Meer is the king of one liners and Hale is the queen of renegade deliveries.

I like them both. Both are very talented; neither are flawless. That being said, I prefer Hale's overall portrayal of the character.

The story is written with Male Shepard as the main Shepard people will play.

Female Shepard is very masculine for a woman in general. Female Shepard has a masculine voice when compared to someone like Ashley, who retains a lot of her femininity.  Bioware makes female Shepard very masculine so the story makes more sense.

Female Shepard, in my opinion, exists to give people the story from an alternative perspective and to also satisfy female players who want to role play as a female character.

The story just seems to be written with Male Shepard as the main protagonist.

When the series was first given to us, it was advertised as a this RPG where you could role play as a space badass who got to romance blue chicks and human chicks. James Bond crossed with Captain Kirk in Space. Liara and Ashley were the "Bond Girls."

Thank you. Now I can´t get the image of Kaiden as a bond girl out of my headPosted Image

How does Hale sound during the "STEEEEEEVE" moment?

I really like both of them and Meer's "Big stupid jellyfish" is delivered much better, but over all I prefer Hale.

Meer has a natural soldier-ish voice, and it worked well. He didn't need to force it.

I'm playing through my FemShep now, and while she's a good VA I find she's trying way too hard to sound 'badass', and adding a sort of raspyness to the end of literally almost every line. It drives me insane. Now that I've noticed it, I hear it in everything!

Just my opinion though.

Yep. I feel the same way. I love Hale as an actor but I think her performance in Mass Effect is lacking. She sounds way too bored and "renegade", even on neutral and Paragon choices. Say what you want about Meer's performance, but he could be taken seriously as both a Renegade AND a Paragon. And I think that is crucial to a game like Mass Effect. I could believe him either way. I cannot take a Paragon Hale seriously.

Soldier-ish voice?

Seriously, has anyone MET a soldier? If anything, Sheploo/Meer is too Hollywood soldier. I know lots of soldiers, and they don't sound Hollywood to me. You know why? Because not every person in the military sounds like a Hollywood action star. They're real people.

Fail reason is fail, and quite frankly, insulting.

How is it insulting?  You seem like you're just trying to stir up trouble.

It's insulting to real soldiers.  And to human diversity.

Heres a suggestion: Get over it.

I'd give you a suggestion, but I don't want to be banned.

Hale can't tell Tali she loves her, so I have to side with Meer.

Mark Meer is a very good actor, hilariously funny, a great improviser, and sexy as heck.

But that's only from seeing him on stage. I've no idea how he is in the game because my Shepards have never been male.

Well, I was shocked to see what he's capable to, compared to his Shepard performance. Looks like he was told to read those lines the most wooden way as possible, like devs imagine how kids think some generic badass soldier superhero should sound like.

Because of it, it sounds so artificial that it kills impression. He doesn't sound like a real person, but just someone who tries too hard to talk using low pitch all the time to be taken as "badass".

Femshep yells "Cortez!" rather than"STEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVE!". It's not as hilariously over the top either, so there's no mood whiplash with the following line.

I have to admit, I laughed at the video description that Cortez dies of, "terminal Not-Being-Talked-At-Enough disease." It's the truth!

I don't play as a FemShep ever. The biggest part of this franchise is immersion and creating your own destiny, and I cannot be immersed when the main character is not a male.
