To be honest, when I saw the character at first glance I thought he
would be lame but when I started playing with him, his delivery began to
grow on me. He is much more than just a meathead as I've read on these
forums. His delivery of his little quirps, and his yes's and no's were
quite entertaining. I thought he was a good addition to the game, he
was JUST a grunt, not someone with a rough past and/or a leader/high
ranking member of a prior organization/gang (atleast from what I
gathered from the game) or a briliiant scientist with philosophical
knowledge so his dialogue was natural to me.
Why all the hate on Vega?

He was ok, but I didn't really feel like I could identify with him much. Perhaps it's because there were so many times where the only way you talk with people is by activating them like an object, not talking face to face with multiple dialogue options.

He is not as bad as I thought he'd be. The problem is, there are much more interesting characters they could have used as squadmates, like Jack, Miranda, Wrex, Legion, Mordin... They could have made Vega's spot a switchable one, so everyone could take his/her LI to the normandy.
Vega is not that bad, but why bother having him, when we already have a lot of characters from ME2? This is lost potential...

I didn't think so at all man but everyone has an opinion. If you mean in reference to his hairstyle I guess that's up for debate.

I don't think people actually hate him, more like indifferent.

I really like the guy (as you can see from my profile pic). However I agree with the above poster, giving the Zaeed treatment to all our crew members really distanced the player from them.

If it's any consolation, I like him ![=]](https://lvlt.forum.bioware.com/public/style_emoticons/default/sideways.png)
Different people have different taste is all. For instance, I despise Tali like no other.

I kinda liked him, but I can understand why people would be upset at having a new guy instead of whoever their old favorite is.

I couldn't warm to him really, after i was able to remove him from my squad i did and never added him again, perhaps when i replay the game i will give him a chance and see what happens

Vega is the charaters that Shepard be his mentor, like Garrus in ME1 and Grunt in ME2.
I think he ok in his role but yeah, there more interesting characters than him.

Except not at all.
He reminded me of my cousin who is a former Marine and is about the same size as him with similar mannerisms, and he's as opposite of Jersey Shore as you can get. Hell, Vega's not even Italian...

I think it's because he's the Token Human. IE, he serves no other purpose other then as a grounding point for new players and to provide another human face (in case you don't recruit the VS)
He's a really cool guy, a good character, I liked him alot. I was a soldier so I had no use for him, but I liked the guy as a no-nonsense no drama sort (he gets over his inner demons pretty quick). And I can sympathize with his backstory of futile sacrifice AFTER THAT GODDAMNED ENDING.
I think people just have a hard time getting over his token nature.

He grew on me as well. From afar he seems like he'd be a tool. But honestly, if you talk to him often he's great.

I just thought he felt boring, everyone else I had history with or was of an interesting new species. Especially Javik, he made me feel so sad.

That's exactly how I saw him. He has an INNOCENT delivery and attitude. He is just a young grunt on a mission more important than he could have imagined. You do actually mentor him in a way by convincing him to go for N7 program.

I liked James. Sure, he may be a bit dudebro-ish, but I find him to be a dudebro with depth. He is a soldier, and he honestly acts like one (including the jabs at members of the crew) while still being an all around likeable guy. Not my favorite character, but I still liked him.

He's alright, although at times it seems like he doesn't give Shepard sufficient respect.
Or maybe that's just how it is in the beginning and he has a bit of an arch. I can't tell; I haven't used him since the first missions.

He's just seem like a big tool to me. I don't dislike the character per se .

I did miss having a Krogan, but then again, I liked James. Of course, I'm a woman and I think the fact that James isn't romanceable is a huge waste of manly man (and I love me some manly men), but hey, whatever.
I brake for Tyrannosaurus Flex.
