Why all the hate on Vega?

He's the only character that sees Shep as a teacher, rather then an equal. Even asked for advice on joining the N7 program. He's cool. Could'vd been netter though, some actual training scènes with Shep perhaps...

I always brought Vega along for missions. He seemed more "alive" compared to the others.

Also all I can see is Freddie Prince Jr when he talks and I just can't take him seriously.

Vega met Shepard on board the Normandy SR-2 almost right after the events of Arrival, not long after Anderson gave up his post at the Citadel. Anderson picked him up on Omega in the Normandy to be Shepard's guard.

He just didn't have the "build up time" all the other chars in the series have had, people aren't gonna have the same attachment to him.

As for myself, I didn't actually HATE him, but he was pretty much just "and James came along for the ride" as far as squad mates go. I did always make it a point to talk to him in between missions though (as I did for every NPC).

They all but removed key people from our old crew to fill in with cameo voice actors. Even the same sex spots seem to be based on random. No I am not against (not really for either, just lots of I don't need an opinion on who sticks what in whom) it but and feel free to correct me if I go astray, it would seem that if Shepard is discovering s/he has these feelings I would think they would be brought out more by a bond with Kelly, or whomever can be brought back from the old crew formed over time and closeness rather then someone he just met. I would like to believe that all trust and/or love would be based on something other then OMG they got voice actor X and gave him/her pixels in all the right spots.

I restarted the next morning, getting a better recreation of my Shepard...and oddly, even though I was seeing the same cutscenes, Vega grew on me. I hated how insubordinate he got, but I put him back in his place. Once I kicked his ass in that fight, he seemed to get his **** together.
If I'd have been playing a female Shepard and he called me Lola though? I'd have pushed him out the airlock.

I liked vega, but the problem is that he doesn't have enough background story like ashley or even javik (and he is a DLC character), another thing to point is that it should have been posible to romance him, honestly, femshep doesn't have much to choose in ME3.
He was in a short comic, and there is supposed to be an animated movie about his mission against the Collectors. Unless the movie falls through, you will get your wish of a more detailed background.
As far as other new Characters went... As much as I liked Kelly, Samantha was a much better, more in depth character. I definitely prefer Traynor as my yeoman over Chambers.
Steve was a good guy, I liked his character- though he did seem to be thrown in there as a LI for male Shep.

I was very surprised by Vega.
I was expecting him to be really bad and annoying. He wasn't anything like that. He was well written and well voiced.
Imo he is to Shep what Shep was to Anderson.
Great point

Vega is one hot latino. He is so cute when femshep calls him out on his flirting and he gets flustered. Why can't I jump his bones!!?!?!??
This, and also, I was in the military, he may look like your standard issue douche but he's deeper then some of the men I worked with and hotter too
I wish we'd had more back story on him though and I didn't use him because my femshep is a soldier but I talked to him between missions.
I would give him up to get an old squad member from ME2 but would prefer to keep him (romance him or something

The problem is that it's still the same mission that shepard heard from him, when you speak to ashley, she tells you her likes and dislikes, her family history, but qhen you try to get something out of vega he doesn't tell you much, that's the only thing i didn't like.
And i still think that he should have been a LI for femshep, she doesn't have much, if you kill kaidan and garrus and then romance another character, she just ends up lonely because thane dies, jacob moves on, and in the case garrus didn't die and you didn't romance him, you can't have him as LI, so she ends up lonely (if you want her to be heterosexual), not like maleshep who still has Liara if everything goes wrong.

Well, since Jimmy's a fictional character any criticism of how he's presented is to be blamed on his creators. Bioware, in this case. Knowing where the blame rests and why doesn't make him any more interesting, however. He's a marine that took it unto himself to tag along with Shepard and crew. He knows Shepard -somehow-, though we're never told why and left to assume..
Just explaining the lack of explanation as to how and why he knows Shepard.
As far as tagging along with Shepard, he said he was on the Normandy when Anderson called for pick up. Early on in the game he also says he'd rather be on Earth fighting. So saying he "Took unto himself to tag along" isn't really accurate.

His voice acting was very well done though, and did the most for changing my opinion of him - since he didn't sound like a meat head.
But then all my conversations with him were either "flirt" or "be a jerk," so I started to get "Jacob syndrome" with him where I didn't like him cos I felt like the game was forcing me to romance him.
So I never took him on a quest, and as my romance with Kaiden progressed, I figured I had turned him off that path. Then I read on the internet he wasn't even romaceable and was like, "what the hell?" But by that point, I was pretty much almost done with the game and too busy using all of Shepard's friends from the first 2 games to start paying him any attention.
But yea...if I had to rank companions, I'd probably put him above Jacob and Miranda, so he's not too bad.
